1. Not unless you look for the remasters on YouTube! Who'd have thought Guitar Hero would have something good come out of it?
2. personally I put the compressor first, directly after the bass but I never claim to be the authority on effects chains and things. People put them in different places for different reasons. Personally I use heavy compression to even out my dynamics, and then put all my other effects after it. Reason for that being that I believe using compression afterwards can 'clean up' effects like distortion too much. That could just be because of how heavily I compress the sound though
3. I'm happy with my bass, and my amp.. But still get incredible GAS when it comes to cabinets, pedals and pickups! Halfway there ey?
4. The general idea I follow is Compressor > Drive/Distortion > Modulation (chorus/phaser/tremolo that kinda thing) > Delay/Reverb. I don't use an expression pedal but if it was for Wah or Volume i'd put it first. Nothing is set in stone though and people do it all kinds of ways. So by all means play around with it and see what works best for you
5. Pretty much as the title suggests. It's a fantastic budget bass, and my first 6 string which I bought in 2006. A few years later I took it to master luthier Andy Viccars to have the frets leveled, bridge straightened, neck shimmed, and just general sprucing up. Since then it has been playing like an absolute dream. The only reason it doesn't get any use these days is because I'm more of a passive guy, and because I prefer a 35" scale (this bass is 34"). As far as playability goes it's the 2nd most comfortable 6 string I've played. Fairly tight string spacing, I'd guess 17mm but I could be wrong. The sound is nice and warm with plenty of sustain. With new strings it gets nice and bright too! And thanks to the active EQ it's very versatile. A lot better than the price tag suggests! The strings on it are kinda old, if I'm honest, but I quite like the tone with older strings I've also got a very tasty strap to go with it made by Levy's (the best damn strap makers out there!). It's never been gigged, and apart from a couple of light scratches on the upper horn, it is in very good used condition. However I have just discovered that the endpin jack socket does lose connection sometimes if you dont tightly wrap your lead around the strap button. A temporary fix is possible but a pain in the arse with this type of jack socket, so it would be best to replace. Because of this I've reduced the price to £160 I can take pictures on request. For now I'll link to some photos i found courtesy of Google! It's a bit redder in real life The bass: The sexy strap: Help a brutha out! Thanks for reading. Fingers crossed!
6. Bought a set of Seymour Duncan Basslines Passive Phase II Soapbars from Justin recently. He was kind enough to put them on hold for me for over a week as i couldn't afford them at the time, and when I paid for them, they arrived just a few days later by air mail, nicely boxed up and in brand spanking new condition (well, he did say they were unused after all! ) More than happy with the transaction and I can't wait for them to be installed next week! Cheers EDIT: Try not to run out of breath reading that insanely long sentence
7.
Why we keep getting put on the same lineup as metal bands, i'll never know.
Pendulum are playing Download Festival again this year and they always go down a treat I'm definately not a dance music type of person, maybe about 7 years ago you'd catch me at a rave but not any more But I found your stuff really cool to listen to and I can only imagine how awesome it would be with live instruments! Keep doing what you love
8. Top Tip! Become a better bass player by simply buying one with more strings! Ever since I made the move to 6 strings, I get compliments from impressed/intrigued punters BEFORE I play, and not AFTER I play like i used to
9. A lot of metal players use EMG's, or you could go with EMG PJHZ passive pickups if you don't want to mess around with active pickups/batteries and whatnot. Seymour Duncan pickups are mighty tasty too! More expensive options are available, but I'd definately start there.
10.
And dnt be tempted by the behringer bass chorus its imho utter crap, its cheap and thats the only plus
+1 Only get one if you REALLY can't afford anything else. I got a temporary compressor for £16 from them because I 'needed' one while I was saving up for my Aguilar. Don't miss it for a moment
11. It's very hard to find these used, but I use an EHX Neo Clone. Cost me £50 new, is true bypass (which means no tone suckage when the pedal is off), and sounds very nice! I checked out almost every chorus pedal under £100 and that sounded the best to me. I believe it's exactly the same circuitry as the EHX Small Clone which was used on Nirvana's Come As You Are, only even smaller
12. Yo! I got linked to this topic from another thread, just been checking out all the bands and there's some seriously wicked stuff here! I've 'Liked' a few on facebook too so I can keep an eye out Anyways thought I'd introduce my band We are Malacite. Metal with a healthy dose of prog, thrash, and death. Main influences being Opeth, Gojira, Exodus, Metallica... you get the picture. Matt on Guitars/Vox, Ben on Guitars/Backing Vox, Alex on Drums, any Myself on Bass Check us out and listen to our tracks on Facebook right here! Cheers!

15. Even though chris may or may not be shamelessly advertising () I'd agree with him! I'm never going to get rid of my F1
16. I've only ever broken 2 strings, the first time was when I bought a second hand bass with old strings on, and many months later the E randomly snapped while I was doing some very light balladesque (is that a word? ) plucking. Second time was when I left the same grimy old strings on my old 6er for 3 years, and after a particularly aggressive bit of noodling without an amp, the high C string pinged out! I'd definately look at your bridge and nut if you're breaking strings regularly, especially as DR strings aren't exactly a cheapo brand
17. I had exactly the same thing happen to me when I made the switch. My theory is that it had something to do with my right hand technique making a subtle change due to moving up and down the strings more often, and the tighter string spacing. It stopped after a relatively short time, but for now I'd suggest spending a little more time on warm ups during your practice sessions until this stops happening. A little bit of discomfort is normal if you're pushing yourself, especially if you're playing fast! But if it actually causes you pain you should stop playing and rest in case you end up really hurting yourself. Anyways don't let it get in the way of you enjoying your new approach to the bass. Good luck
18. I don't know if I'll be able to afford this but I'm very interested! Would you say this sounds at all like the Ampeg SVT 610HLF cabinet? (thats the one with the tweeter) I love Markbass gear but I've been tone chasing after borrowing one of those at a gig once!
19. There's a bloke selling one of the older vesions without the yellow speakers here for a very good price of £325, well within your budget! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=129745&hl=mark
20. In that case I'd look into some of the awesome lightweight cabs that are going around at the moment. For example the Markbass 102HF is an easy one hand lift and they go very loud! Really nice clear tone too
21. If you're already using a combo, and are just getting an extension cabinet it's usually best to get a matching one. It's not like a set in stone rule or anything though
22. The most highly rated precision pickups appear to be made by Seymour Duncan, Wizard, and Nordstrand. I've only heard Nordstrands installed myself and my god are they good!
23. I'm quite a gearstalker myself. Probably shouldn't be as it only serves to increase my GAS problem! You know the scenario. Just when you think you're perfectly happy with your sound, you hear something your rig has never pushed out before! This happened to me the first time I borrowed an ampeg cab. Dammit! I probably get more people eyeing up my gear though, none of the musicians i've shared a bill with have seen Markbass and are amazed at how loud my tiny little 'car stereo' head can go. The fact that I have a few pedals is totally alien to most! I actually quite like people coming up to me and giving me an excuse to bang on about gear. Firstly because I feel like I might be helping people out a little bit with some info and a little personal opinion, secondly because... Well I just like to talk about bass stuff
24. Putting more mids in my sound helped me out a lot
