I remedied my problem by using a compressor, and using a heavier gauge string. Hope you find something that works for you
I use my Gibson EB3 straight into my Ampeg SVT3, no effects needed. Some of the guys I see with a floor full of pedals would be better spending the money on a decent amp.
Or in my case a better bass I love my Peavey but the pickups are pure cack!
-
Nah a lot of bassists go straight into the amp. I used to do this religiously, but playing in a progressive metal band necessitates a few toys Also, i find it's actually harder to sound tight when using some effects. Compression does help 'even out' my playing a lot though
Where's the pain? One of the most common technique issues is gripping too hard, which causes pain to the flexor pollicis brevis (muscle at the fleshy part of the palm attached to the thumb). If it's that, make sure your bass is at the right height, and practice scales without touching your thumb to the back of the neck. It'll feel weird for a while, but is worth it.
I never thought of this actually! I did have this happen with another bass of mine, and it turned out to be a combination of my technique, and the fact that the action was too high and fretting caused undue strain.

I've often been tempted by basses due to my influences playing them! I wanted a Rickenbacker after seeing Cliff Burton with one, various Yamaha's after John Myung and Billy Sheehan (though I played an Attitude bass and hated it!). And due to a large number of players I've always been after a nice Jazz. The new 6 string model tempts me! I hate Precision basses personally, can't get on with the neck profile, but I still want one just because of Steve Harris. I could go on! Thankfully, not only am I on a slight budget, but my needs are quite particular so I can't justify buying anything any different to my Peavey. Phew!

I used to play an Ibanez Musician bass which caused me the same problem. It turned out that because the bridge started a few inches up from the bottom of the body, it made the neck much longer than what I was used to! It was a real disappointment because it was a fantastic bass. Maybe you're having the same problem? Then again it could, as you say, be due to the chunkier neck, i never could get on with Warwicks either. Whatever it is I hope you get to the bottom of it and find a solution

If you're anywhere near Bletchley/Milton Keynes I strongly recommend Andy Viccars. He's a master luthier/tech and it's mostly just a hobby as he loves it so much so you're likely to get a great price too

Boy, did I read this auction title wrong...

That's the first time I've heard a band covering Roundabout. Very nice work all of you! I'd have turned the bass up though
ive sold to 2 buyers here, bought from 3.all in all id trust this place as oppossed to the bay etc...
+1! I still buy brand new music equipment from eBay from time to time, if it's from a 'shop', but I've bought 3 pieces of equipment, used, from eBay, and all have had some fault with them. Everything I've bought from fellow BCers has been like new, and more reasonably priced too! I wouldn't sell any more gear on eBay either. Partly because there are more trustworthy folk here, the fees are verging on ridiculous, and also because I know if I sell it here it's going to a good home

I'd hate to have a super flashy looking bass... I'd get too upset if i knocked it! I stick to budget basses, maybe with upgraded pickups if I'm feeling extravagant. It would be the cheapest option, but I make up for it with expensive amps and pedals!

My 6 string is about 16.5mm which is regarged as very tight! I'm not sure but I think the average is 18/19mm. When you think about it it's amazing what difference those millimetres can make!
-
That Peavey's still for sale? I say go for it, they play amazingly well!
-
And to add to that, I've actually had to buy a compressor JUST so that my low A doesn't kill the rest of my playing lol
It depends if you want to carry a big lump around or go with a light weight amp with the option of light weight cabs in the future, Contrary to bass chat myth (bollocks) none of the new models lack bottom end, warmth or volume
+1! I've got a Markbass F1 head, and a matching front ported 4x10 cab. I have to turn the low end down.. A lot!
Good to know. Think I'll go hit the 'Effects for sale' thread.......Oooooooh, shiny! Ian
Be careful in there! I somehow ended up a few hundred pounds lighter the last time I visited. And this time last year I was a bass > cable > amp kinda guy!

I answered yes AND no

I've got one of those Johnny Shredfreak supplies, I power 7 pedals off it with no issues, no noise whatever. You'll be more than happy with it

It's a shame their strings don't quite tickle my fancy because they really are a brilliant company!

I actually started off on guitar, didn't fail at it I just knew what my true calling was I think it has caused me to approach it differently. Little things like the way my fingers attack the strings (it's like I have 3 plectrums on the go with all out thrash metal downstroke action... Don't know if that's good or bad but it works for me!), and the general way my left hand navigates the neck is kind of different. In my earlier years my movement seemed more fluid that other players at my level of experience. My playing was flashier too... And sloppier! did take me' a few years after that to actually 'get' bass... now I play a 6 string bass, so whenever anyone says to me "why not just play guitar?" I can say "been there, had to switch because It was too small for a clumsy oaf like me "

He can't be a proper bassist if he doesn't even understand that the age old 'proper bassist' argument actually refers to finger/pick playing
Sshhhh, don't tell everyone about Peavey basses, let's keep them unfashionable and cheap
+1 In all fairness though the cheaper ones play well but you have to eq them to hell! Thinking of chucking some passive seymour duncans in to see how that goes

After this i swear im getting help/therapy
