1. These are fantastic basses and that's a really nice bit of wood! If I had the money I'd be tempted to buy a second
2. My setup as of last week. I now have a Marshall Jackhammer, and a digital 4 track recorder filling the blank spaces on my board though
3. Nah, I'm with you there, I'm sure producing the actual fundamental wouldn't be possible. If it'd be possible to at least make it audible though that would be a miracle and I'd definately want to give it a try!
4. I've got a solid state amp which produces the low A better than I could have imagined. I have to use a fair amount of compression to tame it! I may not necessarily play the A with the octaver effect engaged but I'd feel satisfied knowing I could if i wanted to. I've heard that some pedals can barely go lower than the A string on a standard tuning bass which may begin to limit my options. Then again if it comes to needing to fork out for a POG for an effect I'm not going to use a lot, its probably not worth bothering with!
5. Rupturing internal organs? SOLD!
6. Is there an octave pedal out there that can track the low A of a downtuned 5 / 6 string bass and produce a note an octave lower than that? Or are my dreams of successfully producing the brown note doomed to stay as dreams forever? If anyone knows of one and is kind enough to inform me of its whereabouts, I can solemnly promise that I might consider avoiding use of it around them, therefore sparing them from brown trousers
7. I thought that was called something else! That's me teached! Guess what they say about rock bass players is true
8.
So,the melodic minor (ascending) then
Or the harmonic minor (decending) if I'm feeling really adventurous And yes, I learned it when I went through the obligatory Yngwie Malmsteen phase
9. Being primarily a rock and metal player, my favoured scale has always been minor, with a raised 7th thrown in there! I mess around in different modes, but minor scales are always my reference. Because I'm a rebel and that
10. Welcome to basschat
11. A defect bass that never passed quality control... yet plays like a dream, and is instantly recognizable as a genuine vintage instrument... AND was able to have a production date estimated? No comment
12. Played a Stingray 5 last year. I almost cried! At least I saved myself £1300 though!
13. Nothing too flashy, but I learned to play Money by Pink Floyd recently. It was a big deal for me though because I don't normally learn stuff by ear
14. You can get some really extreme sounds from it, as long as you're careful not to get feedback!
15. My friend gave me his Marshall Jackhammer pedal the other day. My search for fuzz has instantly ended. This thing is spot on! Anything from tasteful grind to pure filth (pure filth is what i was after, obviously!) without it sounding muddy. I strongly recommend picking one up, as they're well priced too!
16.
I've been messing around with overdrives lately and my weapon of choice is the Marshall Jackhammer - really underrated pedal.
+1 My guitarist mate gave me his as he uses multi-fx now, and I can't believe the sounds I can get from this thing! It's definately a worthy rival to the Big Muff... and i've not even had a proper play with it yet
17. Maybe a manufacturers fault. My F1 fan won't start 1/10th of the time. I just shove a key in there, give it a little nudge and hey presto!
18. Actually that looks like it's got more storage space than mine, and is a little cheaper!
19. I have a backpack with a little section for laptops in it.perfect, lots of padding and space for leads and accessories to boot! I'll find it and post a link to it later
20. I rate the Aguilar TLC very highly. Smooths out your sound beautifully without touching your sound.
21. Hilarious but genius idea Mr Bassman!
22. I tend to dial in a lot of midrange on my head to make up for the scooped tone on the sansamp, i think i'll try twiddling the blend knob on my distortion preset to see if i can make an improvement. You might have saved me some trouble there Mr. Foxen!
23. I'm looking at the Bass Big Muff, and the Big Muff Pi at the moment. Anybody tried the nano muff or nano double muff?
24. It comes down to personal preference really, I prefer the sound of Hartke, to my ears they seem a little brighter and more aggressive sounding. I've heard Ashdown stuff isn't very reliable, although personally I've had no problems with it. To be honest I would probably stick with it if it was me. If you're interested though ask if you can run your bass and head through it and see what you think
25. Interesting! Well I'm relieved to know it's not something I'm doing wrong Thanks guys, yet more invaluable advice from BC! I'll look into the muffs for now as EHX are a big thumbs up from me atm
