1. I have one of those It was my first bass! It's a Dynabass. I'm guessing it says 'International Series' on the headstock somewhere. I think they originally retailed for £350, but they're discontinued now, and go for as little as half that. Amazing piece of kit, you can coax a really nice sound out of it, and it plays just like a Jazz
2. This is the only way I can play, I am terrible at playing bass 'properly'
3.
What if you had to pay to play, like always in a rehearsal room? What if it was the law that you had to contribute financially to the BIG SOCIETY even when you only played in your bedroom?
I was in a band I wasn't very happy with for just over a year. We paid monthly to hire a rehearsal room, and barely did any gigs. I wasn't very happy with the band but I stayed for the sake of having people to play with. When my missus became pregnant I quit the band. I guess I was looking for an excuse to leave! Then shortly before my son was born I joined Malacite who are based some 20-30 miles away. It's a mission to get to rehearsal and does have an impact on the old wallet, but I'm happy in this band so there's no sign of me leaving. I guess it depends on the band really!
4.
If your band has been playing a set number of venues for years for a certain amount of money, and suddenly those venues say they can't afford to pay you anymore, would your band just give up playing, or simply carry on playing at the same venues for free?
I'd want to potentially expand to play more and more venues if we gain a larger fanbase, especially if there was the possibility of payment elsewhere. But I would never forget where we came from, and it'd still be a pleasure to play at the old faithful's, for free. Especially if we still got a great reaction! Like I said, it's a hobby to me. And doing a gig is a lot cheaper than a night on the p*ss
5. Definately. What with GAS and all, being a bedroom player isn't much cheaper but it's certainly less fun!
6. All the money my band makes from gigs goes straight back into the band, I pay for the petrol to drive myself and my gear there. I just enjoy playing, and I'm extremely lucky that my job allows me to be able to afford to do this
7. Whoever buys this will be a happy bunny! Peavey basses are the most playable basses in the world
8. Good luck with this mate I wanted to do the same with my Markbass cab, until I discovered that I couldn't possibly want to be any louder anyway
9. I'm not sure if this is what you mean, as I have only ever recorded via a combination of DI and a mic'd up cab straight into a desk. But Markbass have brought out some software called Mark Studio 1, that might be worth looking into
10. I haven't tried that particular bass, but the Yamaha BB series that I have seen, played, and heard have all been top notch bits of kit
11. Bump. If you want all three I'll box them all up together and post them to you for £180
12. Have you looked into Shine basses? My first 6 string was made by them and I can't bring myself to get rid of it. It's so much better than the £150 I paid for it suggests! EDIT: Oh, and look into Peavey as well. They play beautifully!
13. I get a very aggressive sound using my fingers, which is down to my 'improper technique'. Instead of my fingers stroking the strings I strike them fairly hard at around the neck pickup, getting an almost slap type tone. Also adding high mids, (or treble depending on your taste), and a bit of gain/overdrive helps
14. I also strongly recommend Newtone strings. Not very well known but they're one of the best brands out there. And not many people will allow you to customise gauges!
15.
Newtone strings are British and often overlooked.
+1 I recently discovered Newtone strings, and they're fantastic! I get custom wound ones which take a while to make, but no issues so far, and I won't go for any others now
16. Unfortunately this is one of those things where everyone is gonna have something different that works for them best. If you're not sure what you want, you may benefit from finding an online tutorial for setting up your bass yourself. It's fairly easy to do a reasonable job when you know how. You might even do well enough so that once you've found what you want, you won't need to pay someone your hard earned cash to perfect it!
17. [s]SansAmp Bass Driver DI: Fantastic pedal, everyone knows what these little guys do. 3 of the knobs have been lost replaced with similar rubber ones as you can see in the pictures. Also the previous owner seems to have marked their favourite settings in tippex or something. It's a bit scratched as you can see in the pictures, but it's still in full working order. Velcro is also stuck on the bottom, and you get some of the missus' red hair stuck to it for no extra cost! Just selling it because I've purchased the 3 channel programmable version. £100 posted[/s] [s]Behringer Dynamics Compressor DC9 This is a fantastic compressor for the price, pretty much a copy of the MXR Dynacomp. There's a great review of it here http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/behrDC9.shtml . One strange thing about this particular pedal, the Sensitivity knob seems to work the opposite way round.. meaning turning it all the way anticlockwise gives maximum compression. Doesn't cause any problems though Selling this because the slight drop in low end is a bit too much for my bass tuned to A, and I've upgraded to an Aguilar TLC £15 posted[/s] [s]ProCo Juggernaut Bass Rat This sadly discontinued pedal is great for gnarly distortion specifically tuned for bass. You have a Blend knob to dial in your unaffected signal, and it also features its own effects loop. This pedal claims to be true bypass, but there seems to be a problem with it where the signal can be VERY quiet when bypassed, so I tend to keep it on all the time, only stomping on the Rat pedal on the left when I want to filth it up. Keeping it on all the time colours the tone a bit, but it wasn't so much that it stopped me using it, but if you're a bit keener on electronics than I am you should be able to fix it. I'm selling it because I prefer to use the SansAmp for distortion nowadays. If you want to use a power supply with it it takes the positive tip jack ones, I don't have a supply but I've got one of the adaptors from negative to positive which I'll include if you want it. This one also has the box! No manual I'm afraid, but it's fairly easy to operate if I can get my head round it £85 posted[/s]
18. This may or may not be useful, but i used to play in a band that played in C standard. I left my 6 string in standard tuning but tuned the low B up to a C. Luckily for me' the riffs were still playable, so that's an option
19. +1 I've ordered from these guys too. It's amazing how they've got such competitive prices AND great service
20. Welcome to the forum! Looks like you've got some good taste in music there, should shape you into a pretty interesting player!
21. First Bass Owned: Peavey International Series Dynabass 4 string 'Go To' Bass: Peavey Grind NTB 6 string 'Your' Bass: Peavey Grind NTB 6 string What can I say, I love Peavey!
22. Welcome dude! My 2nd bass was also a Shine 6 string! It served me well for a good few years that did, still got it too just in case
23. Bet he's a guitarist

Hi

Welcome to basschat fellow Markbass fan
25. Well if it's a noticeable difference that's too much for me! I used to have a Digitech BP80 multi effects thingy. Had to get rid of it because it totally wrecked the tone even when bypassed.. I assumed it was just because it was a cheap piece of crap, but I guess this bypass thing isn't as much of a placebo effect as one would have you believe! Thanks for your input dude
