1. Diago do make some lovely stuff. I think if I like the Johnny, but it turns out unreliable after a while I'll get one
2. Apart from my compressor and sansamp, which are both almost always on, and still have very good bypass, all my other effects are true bypass. I am kind of leaning towards the small stone at the moment, but does true bypass really make that much of a difference?
3. I must still be a bit tired, I said pretty much the opposite of what I meant! Since you're playing in a drop tuning, you'd get the best results if the bottom string was significantly thicker than the others. I play in A-D-G-C-F-Ab and my gauges are 152 - 113 - 85 - 63 - 46 - 34. So if it was me I'd want something similar to the 113 - 34. But since the bottom string is dropped another step, I'd go for even thicker so that the string doesn't flop too much It's difficult to find such oddly matched sets, so if you want to be fussy like me you have to either mix and match single strings, or go for a custom set. I get mine from Newtone Strings Checked out your band, it's not the usual thing I'd listen to but it's good stuff! You'd get away with nickel wound strings there for sure if you prefer them. And your frets will probably thank you!
4. Us metal guys play in some crazy tunings so it's not that alien to me Who are your favourita bassists by the way? It might give me a fair idea of the sort of tone you're chasing
5. I've just thought. This is pretty much Drop C, right? You might benefit from buying a heavy gauge 4 string set. Say 110 - 45, then getting a 125 for the low C
6.
Thinking that the Sadowsky and Aguilar Filter Twin might just have to replace the Mu-Tron!!!
Good call. Since you own a Jazz, getting rid of the Sadowsky would be criminal!
7. Evenin! After removing my Behringer compressor from my board in favour of the sexy Aguilar TLC, I have come to my senses and bottled out of buying a Behringer PH9 phaser (the MXR Phase 90 clone.) However I still crave that lush watery phase sound, so what should I go for? I've been tempted by the EHX small stone (the nano sized one), and a REAL Phase 90. Any thoughts? Or other suggestions? Cheers
8. Due to my slight OCD I would personally buy a bigger board to fit them all on
9. It largely depends on the type of sound you're after. Personally for metal I like having an aggressive slightly overdriven tone with lots of attack, almost clangy if you like. Think Jack Gibson from Exodus. I use stainless steel strings and swear by them. However if you like a smoother/warmer sound you might prefer the 'standard' nickel ones. If playing in standard BEADG i would use .130 gauge for the bottom string, but since you're essentially tuning up half a step you might want to try something like a .125 . Bass Centre Elites do both a nickel and a stainless steel set and they're not badly priced either, i strongly recommend them have fun!
10.
Welcome. Good name
+1 And don't tempt me munkonthehill, The missus will have my legs!
11. I've decided to go for the Johnny Shred Freak. Seems to get a lot of love and I figured at that price I can't go wrong! Thanks for the input guys
12. Keep an eye on pawn shops! I managed to pick up a Sansamp for £60 in Cash Generator a few weeks back. Only thing wrong with it was a couple of scuffs and a missing knob If you have no luck there, or still want something a little cheaper, I also recommend the Behringer BDI21, it's a cheap knock-off but you can achieve the exact same sound with ease
13. Welcome to basschat! A great place to share knowledge... and constantly try to convince yourself that you really don't need another fuzz pedal!
14.
Don't go into the marketplace, you'll be ruined!!
Yeah, save the goodies for us
15. Thanks for the responses, I have a Diago board, but held back on the powerstation so far as i heard daisy chaining your power may cause reliability issues. Might stick it in the maybe pile but I'm leaning more towards the Dunlop DC Brick at the moment. I've seen some cheaper versions of it out there but I'm not confident that they'll be as reliable. Also, any love for the Gator G-Bus 8?
16. I'm guessing most of the effects junkies are too busy tweaking to reply right now Anyone got any suggestions?
17. If he sells it I hope he uses some of the money to buy a better camera for future ebay ventures! Also much respect to anyone with the balls to bid on what could pretty much be any old plank
18. I stand around for ages trying to make sure the note stays in tune from the start of the note and for as long as possible. Those Korg pedal tuners are a bit TOO accurate for obsessive types like me
19. Alright folks/folkettes I've been slowly building up a collection for my pedalboard, and have decided that batteries are probably a little bit too much of a ballache. So in my attempts to make life easier I've been looking at a few of these power banks, but I'm not sure which one would be the best for me. All of my pedals are 9v so I don't need anything too special. What I do want is to make sure it's going to have enough outputs and enough power to run at least 7 pedals from, to add no noise/interference (or at least as little as possible) to my signal, to not have a fit if one of my pedals breaks down, and most importantly to be reliable! I dont ask for much do i? As always, any input would be greatly appreciated, cheers!
20. Welcome! There are some great like-minded folk on here so it's rare your input will be ignored. I even get taken seriously sometimes
21. I play metal, of COURSE I need the low B (and also the low A that i've tuned it to ) My high C however? Maybe not!
22. The deluxe version has a DI out and even it's own effects loop... Been craving one for a long time!
23. Bought an Aguilar TLC from this guy for a fantastic price. Paid for it Sunday night and it was sent by special delivery first thing the next morning. Opened the box, removed the bubble wrap, and it was like brand new! Even had a 9v battery inside also great communication and a pleasure to deal with. Thanks naruki!
24. My first combo was a 300w 2x10 Laney R5, that cost me £300 brand new and served me well for a few years and sounds great for all types of rock. You can even add an extension cabinet for a bit more balls. I think the updated version is called the RB7
25. Ahh i understand! I was in a band that played in C standard, and I tried tuning my bass CEADGC. I had a lot of trouble with the open notes too! You'd definately be better off tuning up in that case. If you're a metal player, I'd suggest Bass Centre Elites Stadium Series. They're stainless steel and so give you a nice aggressive sound, and they do an extra-light 4 string set of 30 - 50 - 70 - 90. You'd then want to get a seperate .125 or .130 gauge for the B. I don't know anywher that does single Elite strings though. So you could always try www.stringbusters.com and go for some Rotosounds instead. I believe they do a set the same gauges, and that site sells singles Good luck with your quest for odd gauged strings! I've had nothing but trouble trying to find a 6-string set for tuning down to ADGCFBb. I just have extra floppy 130 - 30 at the moment!
