1. I've seen lots of examples of people swapping the heads out. I've even seen an LM tube 800 in the 2x10 before!
2.
And on the subject of carpets, they are the ones that were fitted when I bought the flat. I've seen no reason the change them so far. However I can always do with a new bass...
I could have a white carpet full of cigarette burns and red wine stains, with bits of mozarella cheese trodden in and I'd still hold back replacing it if there was a nice bass that I wanted
3. I'd only be sanding the neck anyway, I don't give a monkeys what the back of the neck looks like as I'd be the only person to see it anyway... Plus Grinds have a 5 piece neck so how bad can it possibly look? If it plays better (which it will) it will be worth it.. If it affects the tone in a positive way even slightly that's a bonus in my books
4.
As for the Peavy - I assume the thickest lacquer is the on body so you would think that has the main impact on tone. But who knows…
You're probably right, but (don't laugh) the only reason I bought that bass was because it was black!
5. My newer Peavey Grind is one of the gloss black ones and it sounds a lot more "plasticky" than my older natural finish one... Would sanding down the neck make a noticeable difference in tone? I'm not all that fussed if it doesn't, but it might save me a pickup upgrade that I've been considering for a while..
6. According to all the posts and build progress pictures on the official Facebook page, it looks like things are getting moving again https://www.facebook.com/lettsbasses
7. Get a passive Warwick and Chuck some flats on it or roll the tone off!
8. I'd agree with the posts that say most of the sizzling top end comes from having a bridge pickup. A fantastic choice would be an Entwistle neodymium P/J setup. I think the pair cost me £50 and they're the ballsiest passive pickups i've ever heard!
9.
Update.
That sucks! I would personally return it for another one, and make sure you don't have to pay the return shipping as its not your fault it was handled by a bunch of apes!
10. Always worth a look! I got a Sansamp BDDI in there for £60 once
11. If I didn't have so many I'd have snapped this up, still 30 minutes left to grab a bargain!
12. Old Ben is right on the money. I'd say use it as a temporary solution, gig with a backup, or use it as a backup! Lots of their stuff sounds excellent though (apart from their cabinets )
13.
Yeah, I guess so. I had a traveller 102p and to be fair, it was awesome. I'd love another one. I've not played a Classic, but they do look great.
Yep they are gorgeous looking things! They sound like the standard series but with a tighter low end. They are 3db less sensitive and the tweeter has an on/off switch rather than a rotary control.
14. Bass Collection basses are meant to be really good aren't they? Probably worth a go!
15. "Hmm, this bass didn't seem to sell so well last time I put it on eBay... I think I'll put the price up, THAT will work!" I like how he's chucked multiple strings through the same bridge saddle. That's a really nice touch.
16. Flame shirts are old hat anyways... These days all the cool kids are wearing jackets emblazoned with flaming skeletons playing three guitars at once while riding a dragon made of steel through the moonlit night ... Man that would make one shocker of a pickguard!!
17.
The Tort he ended up getting (or not, in the end) look like one of those black and flame shirts you can buy down the market for £5.
Hahahaha A bit mean but I do see the resemblance!
18.
Was he a dick about it? I don't know, no more than the guy doing the filming (and also insulting the audience, from what the article says). And it sounds like it made a pretty good part of the performance for the rest of the audience!
100% agree with this. People will be talking about the show for years on end, and he'll become a legend for musicians and fans alike. Pretty damn good publicity stunt i'd say
19.
I have the Club 212, shame they discontinued the Club series.
Yeah they were a great idea! They seem to discontinue everything exciting because of how good the standard or traveller series cabs are. I want them to bring back the Classic series sealed cabs with the tolex and black grille cloth... I need a 2x10 to match my 4x10
20. Oh! Theres a dude on here selling a Cort A6 for £425. Less than half the retail price! They're incredibly well made and worth a look...
21. Hmm that review does make it look very good! The thing that winds me up about it though is the upper fret access (even though I'd probably never go up there ), and those monorail bridges. With how aggressive my picking hand is, if I don't have the bass strung through the back of the body I tend to pull the bridge saddles out! I could blame my technique, but a bad worker always blames his tools
22.
When you say this, are you referring to the older models which strongly appeared to be rebadged Shine basses? They have revamped their 'modern' range recently and the six string is different. I must admit that while I haven't seen one in the flesh, the HB does look a bit 'cheap' to me.
Actually yeah, the older "Shine" one was my first ever 6er. I still kind of wish I hadn't sold it! The new ones look a little bit like those ropey H&S branded ones that were doing the rounds on ebay a few years ago. Couldn't shift that quick enough
23.
I'm laughing now because Spitfire have retrospectively added a picture of the spurious guard to their site as an example of 'crazy '70's'.
That is pretty funny I also think it's a really cool looking guard, but it's definitely not what you ordered! You've basically paid like £50 (or whatever 35% of $170 is, i haven't a clue about exchange rates) for some pictures of a pickguard that someone is going to buy someday. It's a shame you have to pay upfront otherwise I'd tell you to take a photo of some cash and send that to him
24. Just to add: I've had friends attend shows I wasn't able to afford or get time off for (as we all have at some point). Said friends have phoned me mid gig to let me hear what I was missing. I'd always hang up after 5 seconds of horribly distorted incomprehensible noise.
25. The newer grind basses aren't as great as the old vietnamese ones but they're still really comfortable to play. Just sound a bit thin on the upper strings. I'm currently looking at a pickup upgrade for mine.
