1. I fitted one to my Zodiac BXP at the weekend. I tried both the brass and the stainless steel saddles and the difference was huge. Not what I expected! Brass made it sound really fat and warm, and tamed a lot of the upper mid-range and highs. Steel made it sound almost the same as the stock bridge, very open and with a focus on upper mid-range punch (exactly what I was Looking for). Except it still made everything sound "bigger", "warmer", and I no longer had a lack of low end when I played up the dusty end of the neck. Weight is obviously more than the stock bridge but this bass has a very subtle neck dive issue. Not enough to cause issues but it's definitely balanced a lot better now! All in all I think it was a decent upgrade, and hopefully I won't have to keep replacing worn saddles and breaking strings like I usually do!
2. There are some horrible people about
3. I've had mine for a couple of years, and I won't be getting rid of it. As I use quite a lot of compression and overdrive the difference was immediately noticeable! I have the Micro Thumpinator as the first thing in my signal chain, followed by the comp and then drive. The result is a much less squashy feel from the compressor, and more consistent level of "distortion" across all the strings, and more headroom from the amp. Also I can turn up louder on stage to hear myself without being politely asked by the guitarist the other side of the stage to turn down!
4. This could be pretty handy, as I spent close to 2k on my current pedalboard and seems a bit pointless taking it to less important gigs. Is it possible to use the "fuzz" without the envelope filter?
5. I never realised the T45 had 21 frets. I had a quick Google Image Search and found a picture of a 40 and 45 together, with 21 and 20 frets respectively. I guess they had been neck swapped?
6. In all honesty mate, I would buy all three second hand and A/B/C them. I actually use two sometimes three "gain" pedals (plus a compressor) stacked to get my tone
7. Compression and/or overdrive will get you pretty close I use a regular sansamp so the Vintage would be my personal preference of the two you've mentioned.
8. I'm far from the tightest player out there, but everything I've recorded sounds (in my opinion) great! It also took me listening to isolated tracks by famous bass players to be confident in my abilities
9. I'm in a heavy metal band and also a thrash band. All fingers! I did try using a pick to get more of a Jason Newsted kind of vibe, but with my level of playing ability I just couldn't nail it!
10. The gig every time, I don't need any more ladies hassling me
11. Has anybody put Entwistle neos in an active bass? I'm considering doing this as my Tragic IV with the 18v preamp, amazingly, sounds tame compared to my passive basses with them in
12.
What did you get Chris ????
This little beauty. PXD Tragic!
13. I've had my eye on this for a while. Absolute bargain for a USA model, but I literally bought another Peavey the other week
14. 2006 was the year I finally got my own "prpoer" amp, I had already been playing bass for two years at that point! Peavey International Series 4 string (my first bass, which I still own for sentimental reasons) Laney R5 300w 2x10 combo I think I was using Ernie Ball strings at the time No pedals! Very respectable setup for the £350 I paid for the lot.
15. I played HRH Metal the other week and the backline was All Marshall and Eden cabs. I went through a 2x12 (I think), and was really happy with the sound from it. Definitely one of my favourite cabs I've played with by a very long way, very similar to my sealed Markbass 4x10!
16.
Thanks for all the feedback - its much appreciated! My band is in a metal competition, with the winners getting a place at the Bloodstock festival. I think this justifies spending the money!!!
Won this two years ago. I use a sansamp and a b3k together. Got a lot of praise about the bass after we played our set in the final. If that doesn't sell it I don't know what will
17. This was my first proper gigging amp, it's really decent especially with an extra cab!
18. I've used the DI on my Sansamp and my Zoom B3 a couple of times without an amp and have both performed admirably. I can vouch for either
19. Best of luck mate. The only regret I have about taking part in M2TM is winning it two years ago, meaning I can no longer take part! It's a great experience and you get to network with a lot of good bands you might not have had the chance to check out before
20. I love mine. Hardly ever use it but it's got a permanent place in my collection
21. I know a lot of bassists who wish people would pay attention to them more onstage. This would be perfect
22. For me personally, I haven't been able to replicate the sound I want on any active bass within my budget. But mostly, I'm too lazy to bother with batteries 😁
23. Everyone who enters wins, I've won loads of the metal ones, never been but apparently they're really good events. I hope so as I'm playing "HRH Metal" in Birmingham next month haha
24. John Entwistle played an Explorer bass for bloody ages didn't he? I don't recall anyone criticising him for playing something seemingly inappropriate
25. I'd sooner use second hand toilet paper than play strings that have had some dudes grubby mitts all over them. That said, when buying a used car, you don't expect four brand new tyres and a full tank do you? What part of "used" he doesn't understand is beyond me. Cheeky git!
