My first comp was the DC9 as well. I used it to even out the levels a bit which it did quite nicely. Upgraded to the Aguilar TLC after scouring ovnilabs, and it does more of the same but you can put it to more extreme settings. The market has massively opened up in the last few years though so you really can't go wrong easily!

Markbass... whats the difference between 4 and 8 Ohm Cabs?
chrismuzz replied to Greg.Bassman's topic in Amps and Cabs
Both the above posts have summed it up perfectly. The volume difference between a 4 ohm and 8 ohm cab will be like 3dB so not massive. If you are certain you'll never get a second cab go for 4 ohms, but I'd always recommend 8 ohms in case GAS sets in...and the volume difference is so negligible you may as well keep your options open I'm lucky, my amp has a 4/8 ohm switch so I get full power out of mine no matter what I do -
How many basses have you bought off the Basschat marketplace?
chrismuzz replied to Highfox's topic in Bass Guitars
Basses? Just the one actually! A 5 string, which I probably gigged three times... Never got on with it even though it's a lovely bass. Strangely I'm very much at home with 4 or 6! Got 4 basses off eBay though But I have bought an amp, a combo, 4 pedals and a few packs of strings off here -
I like PJ basses. Having them both on full adds a nice mid scoop effect, but I put the J pickup quite low down so that it's a more subtle addition to the tone, just adding a little bit of sharpness. Works very well with overdrive! I find if the pickup is too close to the strings it's too harsh and nasal. What I really mean is that I can't hide my sloppy technique as easily

I I've received my strings, along with the t shirt too, nice touch and very generous! as a huge fan of Elixir strings I'm looking forward to fitting them to my bass, but I will hold off until the weekend as I have a rehearsal followed by a gig. I will be using two almost identical basses, one with the old Elixirs and one with the new for a proper comparison!
I've never tried that, but I will now. Next time I am stumped by a problem, I'll take the bass out of its case, lie in there myself, and wait for inspiration to strike.
You won't believe how long it took me to work out what you were getting at there.... But my case is at home so I had to work purely on brainpower... Scary!

Amazing deal!! my 4x10 version of this is my favourite cab of all time, this will be at least 1.5x as good And yes, it is Italian made, with B&C drivers. 6 ohms, so whack a 4 ohm head on top and you'll be able to pump 1200w through it without it breaking a sweat. Not that you'll need it, as these cabs are incredibly efficient (LOUD!)

Smooth Hound Innovations Digital Wireless Guitar System
chrismuzz replied to Dood's topic in Accessories and Misc
Wow that looks very similar to the Stageclix but at a fraction of the price! If the latency isn't noticeable in a live setting this could be very good value! Does it have multiple frequencies you can switch between if you get interference from other wireless devices? -
Didn't realise Jamie could produce custom pick guards. Very good to know. What did he charge if you don't mind me asking Chris?
It was £30 for a black/white/black one
The entire album's available on Youtube as "Justice For Jason". No idea where audio files can be obtained though.
This is actually a fan playing over the album. very good playing but not Jason. If you search YouTube though people have extracted a few of the tracks from Guitar Hero. You'll know its Jason because of the aggressive driven Sansamp + plectrum sound. I used one of those to learn Blackened which I did a bedroom cover video of

Another mention of batteries, bring spares! And don't do what I kept doing when I used to use them and take the whole thing to bits when it stops working, until you've tried swapping for a fresh one!

You have been given £700 for pedals only. What next?
chrismuzz replied to ChunkyMunky's topic in Effects
Assuming I had no other pedals already... I'm talking used prices here of course! SFX Micro Thumpinator Aguilar TLC Compressor Sansamp Programmable BDDI Darkglass B3K ISP Decimator Zoom B3 These are the pedals I currently use on an "always on" basis, and are the core of my sound. It would probably come to around £600, leaving the rest for extra leads! -
I got ther pickguard made for the Peavey Zodiac bass in my avatar by a local luthier (J Davey Guitars, Wolverhampton) very good value too! It might be worth having a ring round local guys and seeing if someone can accommodate you

Strings for sale (brand new sets)

Nice basses these handcrafted in Vietnam. The fretboards on the ones built in this era were rosewood, but they always seemed to use really a high quality piece for all the ones I've tried. Also, the body wings were a wood I'd never come across before called Imbuya which I think is similar to Walnut. It was only the later Chinese ones that started using mahogany on the body.

Difference between string-through and bridge stringing?
chrismuzz replied to Naetharu's topic in Bass Guitars
Their answer was it makes no difference. What matters is the break angle and its position.
That's very contradictory! Stringing through the body dramatically increases the break angle. This in some cases can make the string feel tighter and improve tuning stability. -
Wow, what a great find. Nice to see Ibanez stamped the shim with their logo.
I thought that was a nice touch the attention to detail on this bass is wonderful. Congratulations!
