1. Count me in please Have you tried Elixir strings before? Yes, the stainless steel ones. They are on all three of my main basses as I won't use anything else. What other brands are you familiar with? Many, my (almost) favourites are D'Addario, Elites, and Dunlop What bass(es) will you try the new strings on? Peavey Zodiac (PJ bass) upgraded with high output neodymium pickups. What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing) Very regular gigging and rehearsals, and my band are recording their second album which is hopefully to be released in August. Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings? Because I am very fussy with my strings and tone, that brand new string sound is essential to my tone. I have never used another string which hasn't been taken off after around 3 gigs because of my aggressive attack and tendency to sweat. Links to any blogs/reviews you may have already posted (not essential but interesting) I haven't posted any as of yet
 2. I bought my Diago Isolator as it was far cheaper than the Gigrig thing. Can't remember how much but I think it was like £20. Seemed like a good deal at the time! What are they going for now?
 3.
you won't sell much if you don't answer your pm's
If he's on holiday, or doesn't have an internet connection, hold out for this as it's a bloody steal! Even at used prices there's at the very least £700 worth of gear here!
 4.
Steve Harris`s sound is mid ranged isn`t it?
Yeah! "Scooped" meaning the mids are all cut out, usually with the famous "smiley face" EQ. I really loved the attack from those pickups but because there wasn't a lot of detail and fullness in the tone I ended up swapping them out for Entwistle neodymium ones (at a ludicrously low price) and my bass now sounds so good it hurts!
 5. Not sure on the majority of the bass, but I can tell you that you'll struggle to get a SH tone with the Quarter Pounder, as good as that pickup is. It's quite mid scooped!
 6. I bought a Peavey Zodiac DE Scorpio for about 2% of the price, and I'd argue its at least half as good
 7.
Maybe the amp not suiting the cabs? I never thought that the cabs were harsh in the top end. I had used the 4x10" with an Ampeg PF500 and it sounded terrible. Couldn't get enough of anything to make it sound decent but with the Hartke LH1000 and GK 1001RB II they were fantastic
You're probably right! It's all about the combination of gear and playing style. That's what makes it so much fun! The guy who owned the cabs used them with a Laney valve amp and no effects or processing at all and the tone was wonderful! Bass was an Ibanez BTB 675
 8. I've used their cabs (4x10 and 1x15) with my usual rig (Peavey Classic 400, couple of overdrives, stainless steel strings). They sounded full and plenty loud, but compared to my Markbass they were way too harsh and brittle at the top end for my liking. I normally have the tweeter full on and even after switching it off it was really harsh! Very good cabs and very efficient though, and they look good on a stage! If you like that kind of sound you should be plenty happy though
 9. You know... I genuinely don't know what to do on this one... Or what to think!
 10.
I was really referring to the weight of the drummers input when selecting a bass player.
I never even thought about that, good point!
 11.
And they knew to listen to Lars.
Drumming abilities aside (and how much of a dick he comes across as in this film), he's a very successful business man. His opinion is generally worth a listen!
 12.
I think £150 is about right. I also think that the market undervalues them at that price.
Totally, with detailed pictures it would have sold by now. Hell, I've been after a decent fretless Peavey for a while and if I wasn't so skint right now I'd have bought this one regardless!
 13.
I got put off playing live for about a year after I had a particularly nasty incident. Bearing in mind I've got Aspergers, read on. Drunk moron comes up to me and the other guitarist and begins to talk to the both of us. "Mate, thhatttss some great playing like. Really rocking it" he says in a drunken slur to the guitarist. He turns to me randomly and says "You look like a f***** spacker. Who lets a retard like you out?" In hindsight, it was a bit silly but that was ridiculous.
It may have been silly, but I wouldn't have handled that particularly well! I'd have opened with "That's rich coming from you", and closed with a smack in the gob!
 14.
8x15 Why not You are on bass forums We want BASS
Finally, someone gets it!
 15. in theory, pan is better, as there's less knob twiddling involved in changing your tone... Wouldn't do me any good though as I'm a "both pickups on full" kinda guy
 16. I've not tried the GK but markbass amps are nice and punchy. try the solid state as well as the tube as you may prefer that! Also, there's a lovely MoMark 800 watt amp with a tube pre in the classifieds for under 500 quid. Definitely can't go wrong with one of those!!
 17.
Loved my 410TXV.. Big and heavy but sounded great so good infact that I sold my Trace 1048H as the Peavey was so much better in every respect.
I fully get that. The only cabs I love more than Peavey TVX series are markbass. All the other "bright" cabs are way too harsh on the high end but these both have a perfect balance of attack and warmth
 18. Total bargain, if I didn't have an LMT800 I would have jumped On this!
 19. That is pretty awesome, if I had an amp with an AUX input I'd be all over this!
 20. Also, Bass players = Royalty
 21. Paul McCartney is probably more famous to be fair
 22.
The 410TVX is one of my fave sounding cabs
Ditto. And I'm really fussy about cabs!!
 23. Diago make some "pedal risers" which I bought a couple of to raise the pedals on the back row a couple of centimetres, they already have very good Velcro on, and they really tidy your board up if you run all your patch cables underneath
 24.
If you were offered a paying gig on the spot, that is awesome!
Actually this wasn't a paid gig offer. I did join a paying band through a drunken phonecall at 2am though... Stayed in that band for a few years and did some really awesome shows
 25.
I like to squash my signal because I'm a lazy sloppy player
Also guilty
