So, I went to @Bristol in ... Bristol. They have an exhibit with headphones and a knob which you can turn to change the frequency of a tone into the headphones. I found I could hear up to 13100 Hz. Anything above that ... nothing. Seems very low, even for my 32 year old ears! That explains why my RH450 treble control doesn't seem to raise the treble
Ah, thank you. So it'll be pretty easy to overwrite a patch youve spent hours tweaking by mistake!?
Not really, to overwrite a patch you need to go into the store/swap menu, then select the patch to overwrite/swap, etc. If you never use the store/swap facility (like me) then the last settings for each patch will just be there when you go back to it.
Got mine last night - had a 40 minute play. On the B2, you had two areas of patches - one for user patches and one for preset patches. Having a quick look around on this last night it seems you have to overwrite the presets to save your own patches - have I got that right? Thanks Chris
Yes. In fact, if you change anything on a patch it saves it automatically so there's no actual saving to be done at all, unless you want to move or swap a patch.
I had a very different experience, though the G5 clone had a pretty good tone I thought the tracking of that and all other synths was awful.
It probably depends a lot on the sound you get/want from your bass... the B3 (and other synths I guess) detect the frequency of the note and if there are a lot of mids, harmonics or whatnot the synth has more difficulty in tracking the actual note being played.

Post your pictures, Lets see what you all look like.

Here's one of me in a pub in south Wales in December, nice shot of two Barefaced cabs in the background! -
Just got a Polytune - Doesn't detect my B
aldude replied to Herbie The Rad Dorklift's topic in Effects
I had this problem when I used my 5 with the Polytune (original, not mini). I just tuned the B separately - well actually I did and still do with all the strings, as I don't trust the poly mode, so it didn't bother me, but you're not the only one out there. No idea what could be causing this - could be a batch issue, instrument level, EQ (too much harmonics?) - who knows. I was actually using a Line6 G50 wireless straight into the polytune. -
Quick dumbass impedance question - 8ohm and 4ohm cabs together?
aldude replied to Clarky's topic in Amps and Cabs
What cabs? A 4 ohm 212 and an 8 ohm 112 will give all speakers the same power so will not be a mismatch. If you're putting a 4 ohm 112 and an 8 ohm 112 together they will receive different levels of power, but at your volume levels I doubt it would be too noticeable.
This!!! I use a Barefaced Compact (8 ohm) 1x15 and Super 12 (4 ohm) 2x12. So, 2/3 of the power goes to the S12, but this is divided between the speakers. So, all three speakers get 1/3 of the power - I guess it's as if I used three 8 ohm cabs, 1x15, 1x12 and 1x12. I don't see a mismatch here! And I certainly don't hear one. -
The thumpinators a high pass filter, or a low cut filter. AFAIK the rh450 has a low pass filter to remove all the zinginess & to get a more vintage sound. Not entirely sure about the compression thing.
Oh yeah whoops, the thumpinator does have a high pass filter!
-
I just had a thought, is this similar to what the tc rh450 does?
No, completely different. The thumpinator is a low pass filter (I understand), whereas the RH amps perform compression or some other related trickery to make their amps sound a bit louder when they are pushed.
Interesting stuff re the whole wet and dry amounts, Although I like my B3 I was thinking of still using a compressor pedal because I couldn't get that heavily compressed sound out of it but it may be the mixed in dry signal that is the causing the problem, Is it the 'Bal' or 'Level' contrrol on the 'Total' page that changes the mix of the wet and dry sound?
It's bal that controls the wet/dry mix. Level controls the output level i.e. the volume.

Fender P-J pickups

You could do it by using two 2-channel blenders. Use one blender to blend two signals, and use the second blender to blend the third signal with the first blender output. Probably cheaper than a custom 3-way blender. EDIT: oops, did not read the OP properly! This was your original suggestion - I would go with that as one more LS-2 would be much cheaper and I can't see any drawback other than space.
Yes of course, but you have basically 3 levels of distance to the right and 3 to the left, with the M5 or Pitchblack you have nearly infinite levels because on the M5 you have as many as the resolution of the screen, and on the PB you have the number of lights plus their dimming from one to the next. A lot more stages to see where you are.
Ah, I misunderstood what you meant, yes I think the B3 lights are either on or off, not used the Pitchblack/M5 but the lights are dimmed as you get closer? I guess that could give a better resolution - depending on a number of things, including the range assigned to each light. FWIW, I did ffind the B3 tuner to be excellent, very fast and stayed on the note rock solid. I can't comment on its accuracy, but it certainly did sound in tune!
I was actually just going to post about tonesucking or not, because some guy on talkbass said he got it. Personally, I couldn't notice any difference. I plugged bass > B3 > amp, then bass > amp a few times, never noticed any colour or tonesucking. I have new strings, and the zing and twang were all there. As for the tuner, I have the Pitchblack too. You know how with the PB you get one red LED lighting just slightly if you are very slightly out of tune? That allows you to tune to perfection. With the B3 the screens are pretty useless besides telling you the note you're on, it's all about the lights on the top, and they always light fully, so if you are 1% high, the red light to the right will light full on, perhaps blink if it's very slight, but it's hard to have a fully gradual feel from it as I guess each light represents a certain percentage range... I won't say it's not accurate because when I moved the tuning peg up or down just a tiny touch from tuned, it noticed and signaled out of tune, but the whole concept is a bit weird... Makes me feel a bit uneasy and hard to trust as much as with a PB. The screens could have been used much better for this. On the M5, you have a horizontal bar and a slider moves freely left to right on it, it's not 'stepped', so though not as good as the PB and hard to see the note from the height of my 1.88m, it's still pretty good.
Weird, on mine the number of lights tells you how far away from the note you are. I use chromatic mode.
