My experience: I bought a quite expensive 5 string to replace my ageing 4. However, even after a couple of months I was still struggling with it - the width of the neck, the confusing extra string, and even the changes needed to my string muting technique to avoid multiple strings vibrating. I wished I had bought a cheap one first, and would have ditched the 5 and stuck with 4. Now, though, after 6 months or so I finally feel comfortable with it and even prefer it to the old 4. But to avoid risk of losing a lot of money I would do what many others have said and buy a cheap one first just to see if you get on with 5 strings, as it's not for everyone. But give it time. On a side note, regarding scale length, I don't think that 35" is much of a benefit over 34" but do think 35" makes things even harder to play.

Another recommendation for DDT's here, I use the heavy 5-string set, £40 is a bit painful for the set but they have such a great feel compared to any other string I have ever used that I can't have anything else right now. We tune down 2 semitones, i.e. to A-D-G-C-F.

26 screws (!) later, it appears there are a whole load of fuses in there - one glass 160mA which seems ok, about 6 1A fuses and two 12.5A ones. The 1 and 12.5A are opaque so it's going to be a bit trial and error. Still, I have ordered a pile of slow blow fuses at these ratings as they are cheap so here's hoping that will do the trick!

Hello In my jazz a few years ago I used Bartolini 9J1 pickups - not sure if these are proper humbuckers but they are "split coil construction for hum canceling". Great sounding too. EDIT: This head is actually a beast for fuses when switching it on - it blows fuses in kettle leads and distribution boards, and even trips mains fuses sometimes.

I have a Trace Elliot 1000-12 head from about 2006. It has 2 500W power amps with respective speaker outputs on the rear. Now the 'left' side is completely dead and no sound comes out, only the 'right' side is working. This is not a problem, as I only use one cab at the mo, but if these things have a habit of dying then if the other half goes too I am in trouble... unless I can fix the left side. Anyone know a starting point to fixing this thing, i.e. internal fuses or whatnot? I should add that the preamp and right power amp stage seem completely fine. Thanks!

I run both of them from a single Markbass supplied PSU - these are rated at 1.5A, whereas I think both pedals are rated at about 0.5A or thereabouts - no idea why the Super Synth should draw so much current though. I also have a 9/18V supply for other pedals, it would be nice to run the MB pedals off that one too!

Me at a recent gig. Shame the top of my head has been cut off, but it hasn't got much hair on it anyway so probably just as well

I have 2 SR Prestiges.... like the guy above, also the best basses I've ever owned. I think that the consensus from owners seems to be for the money, they are great value and probably one of the best basses you can get for the money. They do a wide range of values though so perhaps their reputation is diminished because of that - undeservedly IMO... Also I don't know if this is the same for all the range but my SR Prestiges are very thin/narrow necked, and small bodied (feels like that anyway), so it might not suit everybody, but it certainly suits me.

Cheers Charla[/quote] I don't think there is any difference between daisy chaining and using both outputs, but with the jack speaker output there is more of a risk of accidentally using an instrument cable instead of a proper speaker cable. On the other hand, if you daisy chain, the first cable (connected to the amp) needs to carry double the power/current, it might be worthwhile getting a heavy duty cable for this reason, although I've never heard of it being a problem.

I have 2 Ibanez's/Ibanii: a SR4005E Prestige (5er), bought last year, and a SR5000E Prestige (4 string), bought just the other week. Average price around £1300/1400 I guess. They are essentially the same bass, the difference being the no of strings and the woods used in the body. In the interim I also briefly owned a Spector Euro5LX-EX. These basses are supposedly around the £2000 mark. However, the finish, feel and quality of the Spector is not a patch on the Ibanezz (yet another plural of Ibanez?). I always noticed that when going from one to the other. The Ibanez was also much nicer to play (for me), so I sold the Spector and replaced it with the other Ibanez. Now I no longer look in the 'Basses for sale' section - I have found my dream basses for now. If anyone has any doubt about the value for money of these basses then go and check them out if you can - they will probably impress, and might even convince you to part with a four figure sum. £2k does seem like a lot though, even for an Ibanez, but remember that it can probably easily hold its own against and maybe even surpass other supposedly high end instruments like the Spector Euro.

I use a G50 and it's fantastic. Worth every penny IMO. Runs off standard Boss-style 9V centre negative too, handy for pedal boards.

The bass looked like either a return or an ex-demo, as there were quite subtle signs on it (like a couple of scratch stripes on the pickup from the B string, for instance). However it was in a condition it would have been in after a couple of days anyway, so I kept it. I'd be interested if you also bought from "Tho". Mind you, it was over £200 cheaper from there than anywhere else I could find so maybe they sold it at a return price even though it was described as new. And as for the OP, good luck with getting a discount or refund!

Do you need something like this? I used one for a while and it fit the purpose. It has one "input" connector, for receiving the power supply, and five "output" connectors, for plugging into pedals. There's no need to use the power output of the TU2 (which IIRC has quite a low amp rating).
