1.
(cough i'm going to be a bit of a wierdo here) but the nicest 5'er I played (in a shop mind you) was a High End Ibanez.... SR4005e Prestige (or the 5005, given how much money ou have, but the difference is marginal) ( http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/eb_page11...p;series_id=469 ) edit : looks like they have stopped making the 4005e, or at least, it is no longer on the UK site.
Massive, massive resounding +1 for the Ibanez Prestige 4005E. Looks like it's not made any more, but seems to be still available at around £1200? If you can find one I think it is absolutely essential to checck out. The build quality is the best I have ever seen on a bass - I also have recently acquired a Spector Euro 5 which is supposedly around £1900 new and I must say the Ibanez quality seems a lot better. It also has a very "shallow" neck (not much distance from front to back) which helps me a lot as I have small hands. Sorry Spector fans, the Spector is nice, but if I had to give one up then the Ibanez would be staying! I think the only difference between the 4005 and 5005 is the fancy top on the 5005 which is not my cup of tea anyway. It seems to cost about £5-600 more just for a bit of wood that probably makes little difference - so I wouldn't go for that. EDIT: here's a pic of me playing mine - with suitably bad bass face! Also, the bottom B string is a DR neon (green)...
2. Thanks! Here's a pic of the "guts" - looks very neat and tidy in there!
3. I have recently purchased this Euro5 from a fellow BCer in the For Sale forum, and I thought I'd share some decent pics. Enjoy... I am certainly enjoying my first Spector bass! Al
4. Hi mate Loving the Spector Euro! When I lived in Sheffield, I and the rest of the band used Electro Music in Doncaster - http://www.electromusic.co.uk/ Good chaps, looooads of stuff in there and usually willing to do a bit of a deal if you ask (well they were for the stuff I bought anyway).
5. Bought a Spector Euro 5 from Simon - very nice bloke and the deal went just fine. Recommended to deal with!
6.
Are DDT's nickel or stainless?
Stainless steel I believe.
7. These are now sold! I have a set of DR Strings DDT (Drop Down Tuning) 4-string 55-115. String gauges are 115-95-75-55. I have no need for these strings, due to my dwindling collection of 4 strings and growing 5-string collection. These strings have never, ever been used or even taken out of those papery envelopes. I have a set of these on my 5-string and another set is on the way for my soon to be acquired Spector fiver (fingers crossed the deal goes through!). We play down tuned by 2 semitones but these strings are rock solid and sound great. Heard they are great at standard tuning too but I've never found out. Strings Direct do these for £30 although this gauge is out of stock at the moment. Bass Direct also @ £30 posted. I am looking for a mere £20 posted (first class). Thanks for looking!
8.
Line 6 Relay G30/50/90 Encrypted WIFI signals, cable simulation, great range. I use the G50. Main reason I went for this is because we occasionally play gigs with more than one band and the Line 6 Relay system is getting popular! This means that while my band are not using the same channel (the G50 has 12) I got worried that someone in the wings tuning up could interfere with my signal! I get the feeling the same could happen when I start playing the beer festivals later on in the year. I tend to put up a sticker with my bands name and what channel I am on - a couple of guitarists have said they found that useful as they ran the same Line 6 Relay system. The G50 goes all the way down to 10hz so plenty low enough and with the cable simulation I am able to remove that digitally bright, crisp tone - I only role it on a bit just warm the sound up a bit. Other have mentioned the possibility of signal compromise due to lots of devices running wifi - it is encrypted so there is no problem - your laptop doesn't suddentl pickup your neighbours websites due to signal crossover. There are over 12 wifi networks available to me where I am sat at the moment and the same principle applies. It works well with passive. active, bass, guitar. I am proper impressed with it. Another advantage - I can take a walk during sound check (we don't have a sound engineer anymore as he is now the bassist! ie me!) and check how we sound - the ability to do that is at times priceless with the weird and wonderful venues we play! Buy. Buy. Buy.
+1 I also have the G50, I got that over the G30 due to the larger number of usable channels and the fact it's made of metal rather than plastic. I use an active 5 string bass and it's like I'm using a cable with no wires Expensive, but best thing I have ever bought!
9. Hello This has been getting exactly zero action since I bought it off the 'bay a couple of years ago. It's in mint condition, comes with footswitch for sustain and a stand shown in the pic. Also has PSU, no manuals though. 61 keys, touch response (i.e. harder = louder! ). Built-in speakers. ALL FOR £40 It's a fair size so collection from Bristol please, or I don't mind driving a bit to meet for petrol money. Here's a Yamaha support page for this: http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-ins...5gm/?mode=model
10.
Not that I've been able to try them, but on paper at least it sounds like the 'digital' units that are coming on to the market appear to be promising a wider frequency and dynamic range than the analogue (VHF UHF) counterparts. Anyone care to comment?
I have a Line6 G50 - about £360 from GAK. It's the best thing I have ever bought - it's as if it is wired not wireless. No noticeable change in tone at all - well I didn't notice any anyway Even copes well with bottom B string that's down tuned to A. It works in the Wifi band which is about 2.4GHz I think. No problem with interference so far. I would recommend this to anyone!
11. NOW SOLD!! For sale, the highly rated B9.1ut. I bought this off basschat in "as new" condition a couple of months ago, and used it a little since, but due to the wife and kids and all that I just haven't had the time to explore it properly so it really ought to go to a better home. Sounds fantastic when used though, probably partly due to the tube preamp, and I love the chromatic tuner, the response time is astonishing. I hope that the original owner doesn't mind the link to the original thread and pics: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...1&hl=b9.1ut I got this for £210 posted, it's in pretty much the same condition as I got it, i.e. as new. I'd like to get that back. If you collect it, which is preferred, I'll let it go for £200.
12.
She has a 40mm nut as apposed to my jazz which is 38mm, very nice shallowish smooth varnish neck, hope that helps, it's a delight to play and very very light.
What about the spacing of the strings at the body end of the neck? (Just the spacing of the E-G strings will do) - thanks!
13. Wow. I am surprised this has not gone yet. What's the neck like? I have a preference for slim, jazz-like necks with natural wood finish.
14. Now sold! For sale, Ibanez Prestige SR4005E, Japanese made. I've taken a load of new pics of this bass so you can view it in all its glory. Needless to say that this is such a fantastic bass and you can feel the quality just by picking the thing up. Lovely slim neck. My bathroom scales tell me that it weighs 9.1 lbs. The pics can be found here as I've no idea how to attach them! http://postimage.org...m5hos/c6c6638f/ There is a bit of a mark above the pickups, can be seen in the pics. Not really a scratch, looks more like a bit of wear of the finish. It looks like it can be easily fixed with some stain or polish but I don't want to do it as I would probably ruin it. A few tiny marks on the back too, on the top right as you hold it. Very minor. Apart from these the bass is spotless, nothing on the neck, headstock etc. The hard case is included. Price dropped again to £700! I have MAJOR GAS for something and I need to raise funds so no trades thanks. Thanks for looking!
15. Post Christmas bump with post Christmas sale price drop!
16. Got an effects unit from Mike, it was in tip top condition and also Mike went out of his way to get it to me quickly - I could not have asked for better!
17.
These cabs are unreal, the volume and punch they produce. The 212 version has tons of low end. while the 210 has plenty. Good luck with the sale.
Wow, just tried this last night at a practice (fairly heavy rock band). I used this tiny little cab on it's own as I've now sold my Markbass, and I was very surprised at how it performed - plenty of low end, even on the low B string, and great mids that just cut through everything. It was very easy to dial in a great sound and there was plenty of volume - very impressed. Two of these or one plus the SP212 12" version must be a killer tiny rig indeed.
