But Mike - have you changed the pickups in your Transit to see if there's a material difference?

Hartke HS410SB - getting cheaper ...... needs slight attention

Hi everyone Last chance before ebay - this has to go!! I am selling my Hartke 410SB, which needs a little attention to one of the speakers. It is not blown, but the lead wires from the voice coil to the connector lugs are shredded. I soldered a couple of wires to it to prove that the speaker works (which it does), but the first deep bass note disconnected it. The other three speakers are absolutely fine. Guys - even if you don't want to do a repair, there are three good Hartke aluminium coned speakers in there at less than 20 quid each - and a free cabinet to boot. If you have some speaker lead wire, fixing the fourth speaker would take less than a quarter of an hour and you would have a top class cab for £50. Gotta be worth a punt, surely ........ The cabinet has been well used and is a bit tatty, but even so this has to be worth [s]70 a mere 60[/s] last price drop before ebay ..... 50 quid. I can deliver around Cambridge, Leicester or Coventry, but apart from that it would need to be collected. Late change - I will be travelling to Reading on Friday October 26th, so can deliver free in that area or anywhere between Stamford and Reading. I would also be happy to courier at buyer's cost.

I have VM Jazz - the maple neck with block markers jobbie. Rarely leaves the house, but it's a great bass for the money.
ah, there is so much fun to be had with bad grammar and punctuation
Yes, my grammar is always fun, but she's getting on a bit now

BlackHawkDown - a band featuring two of my sons - are on a three band bill this evening at Mama Liz's Voodoo Lounge in Stamford. For a mere 4 quid, you can see three top bands - two of which reached the national final of last year's Surface Festival! If you want a taster, try this ..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MbQ_i9P9aU&feature=g-all-u Thanks for reading

Lol. It's a smart looking beast, with the two MEC soapbar type humbuckers. Let me know if you fancy a look

I have a Rockbass Streamer 5 string - and I don't use it nowadays if you fancy it ......

Dragging this from my memory - weren't CMI (or Cleartone) the parent company of Park?

Thanks for the corrections, guys - I did say I was on dodgy ground with the older pickups. luckman - I own a couple of Warwick Corvettes - an old passive, which feels so right it's - well - right, that I bought from Jigster and a newer active that doesn't suit my left hand at all. The passive is now my go-to bass, and the Rick is one that I pick up occasionally to play at home. Funny old world, eh?

I seem to remember that one difference is that 4003 has been "adapted" for roundwound strings - harder fret material and beefed up trussrod. Having said that, I have used roundwounds on mine for over 20 years with no issues. I may be on dodgy ground here - and I'm sure some of the experts will put me right if I am mistaken - but I think the toasters were just single coil pickups with a cover. Also, the horseshoe is just a two-part cover for the bridge pickup. I believe it's part of the pickup assembly, but not part of the pickup itself.

I just happen to have my 4001 here in the office with me today. It's a 1979, and I have owned it from the mid 80s. It has high output single coil pickups - earlier models had lower output jobbies - and they are indeed different pickups. The bridge pickup cover is removeable, but I keep mine in place. It has both stereo (labelled Ric-o-sound or SF) and mono outputs mounted on a single edge plate. Early models had checkerboard body binding, but by 79 they were using plain binding, and the neck is bound too. It also has the shark tooth fret markers. I suspect you may be confusing it with the 4000, which had a single pickup and was hence only mono, and mostly had dot fret markers with no binding to neck or body. As far as I know, the [pickup cover is removeable on all models in the series - but I may be wrong on that.
First things first; how do I measure a gap that narow?
I use a feeler gauge. You can buy them pretty cheap from car parts stores like Halfords. You say you have followed all the suggestions, but I posted the first of a set of four videos earlier in this thread. If you had watched that, you would have actually seen an expert luthier tweaking the truss rod and measuring string height. The series then goes on to show you how to cut the nut correctly, set action at the bridge and adjust the intonation and pickups. A full setup, with demonstrations - and it's free on YouTube.
