1. I have had a couple of technical issues with my rig recently, and have to comment on the support I received. Firstly, TC. I have an RH750 that is well out of warranty and that I bought second hand. It had the "knobs falling off" issue (ooer, missus). I contacted TC to ask where I could buy a replacement set, and two days later a full set arrived free of charge. Then Barefaced. I bought a Big Baby 2, which had an issue with its crossover. After a couple of emails, Alex agreed to send a new crossover for me to try. I swapped it out, problem solved without having to return the cab. Great support from both - thanks guys.
2. Could you please post the dimensions between the mounting holes?
3. One further consideration is whether you use a Hipshot Xtender for drop tunings. I have found that standard Fender plastic nuts reliably change to the correct pitch, brass nuts don't.
4. Lewis - I was quoted four weeks for my Big Baby 2. It was delivered three weeks later.
5. I had always played a Rickenbacker and had recently been converted to Warwick when I saw an ad for a Precision and felt that I should perhaps give one a try. It was a 60th anniversary Mexican, which I acquired for a stupid low price because the vendor - a music shop - had made it collection only on ebay. After a setup, it played OK but didn't look or sound special - so it became my "let's try a build" bass. I changed the pickup for a US standard, replaced the bridge with a black Badass and put on Hipshot tuners with a drop D extender. One custom pickguard (bright green shell) and all black bits later, and it now sounds like a dream and looks "individual" !
6.
If received wisdom from 5-string players is correct and there's nothing you can do on a four-string that you can't do on a five-string... ...my question would be, 'Why??'
Different tunings?
7.
Glad to see a fellow Henry Cow fan (Cow head?) on here!
One of my old bands supported them back in the 70s. Happy days
8. I was quoted up to 4 weeks and my Big Baby 2 arrived after 3 - a week early. It arrived a couple of weeks ago, so I would imagine it's similar now.
9. Dood - where are you based? I have a Big Baby 2 that will be having its first gig airing the Friday
10. If he had stopped zero per cent of the way in it would have been better still. I will never understand why anyone would want someone else to batter the crap out of a bass before they buy it!!
11. I recently received my sparkly new Big Baby 2, and at the weekend I gave it a run against my Markbass rig (151HF and 104HF). My thought before I turned on was that this was an unfair fight - how can a tiny 1x12 even hope to compete with four tens and a 15? Well .... Without changing the EQ or levels, there was a big difference. The Markbass rig was louder and had more top end and a bit more bass. So I set up a second patch with a bit more bass and much more top, then turned up the volume a bit. For the sort of levels I play at (a rock covers band at pub volume) there was not a lot of difference in sound or volume. There was, however, a massive difference in how much my back ached after moving the gear. The conclusion: the BB2 will do the same as the Markbass rig at pub band volume, but you need to take the time to set up the sound. Now, maybe if I had a second BB2 ........

No probs - I was impatient too!! It's difficult to explain just how small and light these cabs are - or how big and heavy the sound is!!

Well, it's here!! After much deliberation, I ordered a barefaced Big Baby 2. It arrived yesterday, and today was tryout day. For it's size, it's a truly remarkable cab. I have been using a Markbass rig (1x15 and 4x10), so have just done a quick comparison. The BB2 doesn't quite match the Markbass rig - but the difference is much less than I thought. Pictures to follow when I work out how to upload them!
16.
Hi GregBass I have a great MIM precision from I think 2003 with a lovely neck I prefer to the U.S. versions I try out in local music shops. I did try swapping the pick up for Seymour Duncan SP3 but I found it too boomy and preferred the stock MIM but I wonder if it is worth trying the U.S. stock pick up. Did it make it much difference to the tone when you upgraded it please?
Shylock - the pickup did make a difference, but the degree is always difficult to assess as it's a personal thing. The US pickup just seemed to have more .... more depth, more punch, more clang. Of course, other people's mileage may vary. It may be worth looking for a used US pickup on here - you should be able to get your money back if you don't like the difference it makes.
17. I have a 60th anniversary MIM Precision. The pickup was a bit weak, so I changed it for a US jobbie. I also changed the pickguard, bridge (for a BadAss 3) and tuners (Hipshot). It still doesn't match my Warwick, but it's my first reserve.
18. Just a word of advice about Bass Direct - call and book a slot to ensure you get the attention you need. The website does suggest that, but in the small print. As a small operation, at busy times they cannot give lots of time to everyone who just drops in.
19.
in my mind it seems that it's not possible to get the neck straight/flat enough for low action, it's always too concave, I'll check out a few YouTube videos to make sure I'm not being stupid and doing something wrong before getting a professional opinion.
I had the same issues with an old Telecaster/Precision bass I built up. No matter what I did to the truss rod, it rattled at certain points on the neck. I took it to my luthier, who immediately spotted that the truss rod was just not biting. I let it with him and he just lowered frets to get the profile I wanted. The action is now superb.
20. Doesn't Mr Foxen on here do stuff with valve amps?
21. Conan - if you don't get the sound you want from the Aguilar and still have RH750, I can guide you through the setup on the RH to push out those mids. Give me a shout if you need it.
22. I love the TC RH750. A couple have popped up recently on here too
23. Thanks Chiliwailer
