Diana Vickers Vs Chili Peppers!!
Diana Vicker's voice makes me feel violent. She sings with a furiously annoying accent to everything.
It's a style that get's on my moobs. Shades of Cranberries vocalist but with the annoying habit of creating extra syllables in words. -
Diana Vickers Vs Chili Peppers!!
chardbass replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in General Discussion
Spotted the RHCP rip off on first listen of Diana Vickers track. Jason Derulo has been at it for a few songs- In My Head is 'heavily influenced' by GaGa's Just Dance and his latest has most of the verse of Flashdance (What a Feeling) as it's verse. If you haven't heard it yet you'll know it when you hear it! This was the most blatant rip-off in pop-rock I'd heard for a long time- sing the chorus of Pink's You and Your Hand (0.36 in) over this chorus (from 0.33) -
I got the first album, Taking Off, and a Marcus Miller one (can't remember the title, green cover) which did nothing for me. This is from Takin off.
Love it. The glory days of funk sax players- Tom Scott, Brecker Bros etc before the clones came along. The Green album- that sounds like the Sanborn album that Run For Cover was off- Voyeur? I'm all about the 80s Sanborn- Straight From The Heart, Change of Heart, Close Up. My first introduction to Marcus Miller.

I kind of know what the OP is getting at, without the Leeds connection. I have worked with many people fresh out of music education establishments (Newcastle, Leeds, ACM)- what I've found is that no matter how big a fish they were in their world, there is no substitute for experience of any nature in the 'real' world- live music, pop, backing, reading whilst making it sound 'not read' etc. Usually the muso's warm-up is straight out of Chops R Us and then all that sh*t is straight out of the window on the gig or rehearsal even. There is some degree of snobbery in these establishments- nothing wrong with aspiring to do greater things- but so many of us earn money from playing pop, cabaret, theatre etc and the more this stuff is taught in colleges etc the better, as not all people who leave music college end up in New York working the jazz scene or getting on a Beyonce world tour (all offers considered tho) Couldn't help but get involved- I'm an ex-college boy (late 80s) BTW.
Hello guys, I've been working with this bass for a while. The construction and feel is great but the pup's and electronics are a bit away from i expected - a complete mess. I've read a lot about different upgrades and i now that there's a lot of stuff around but still haven't decided. For those who have or had this bass what do you recommend and why? Thank you! Best regards from Lisboa, Portugal
I only use my MM bass for fun but the first thing I did was change the pre (I went for the Sadowsky as it is a simple system)
Sometimes I do-I have bills to pay after all. I play both originals and covers-mostly covers. I regularly play to large audiences and have toured all around Europe and America. Plus, I don't need to have a day job,and I love every second of it.
Yeah, + the 1! Playing originals gave me some of the happiest playing days I had and I have a demo CD full of great sounding memories from the 90s. Playing, arranging and transcribing covers bought (half of) my house and keeps me, my wife and baby daughter out of harm's way. Would have loved to have made more of the originals band but I love my life so it's a win-win for me
I take back my "It Bites" quote after listening to the album
A shame, as it sounded like a great combination! I won't bother checking it out now

The title sums it up- We go from the 25 Greatest Bassists of ALL TIME... to "your favourite bassists..." Not quite the same thing really Very rock heavy but at least Jaco beat Flea which is something.

Loving the 80's conflab. 2 words. Scritti Politti. Good enough for Miles and Marcus, good enough for me.

Similar bits to everyone else but including roll on deodorant for stinky emergencies. Also, clothes pegs for random outdoor (windy) reading gigs.

Check out these Mezzoforte live tracks...

I had their No Limits album on tape in the around the late 80s. If I heard it now it would probably blow my head off in a bad way as it was one of those "soundtrack-of-your-life" albums. Very well played and produced fusion from what I remember- bearing in mind what was going on in those days that was comparable. Elektric Band- Light Years, Sanborn- Change of Heart etc. Man those were my college days. -
Playing some V Wooten and Jacoish licks? Doesn't do it for me..
Each to their own. Not everyone needs have a unique voice- a collection and interpretation of influences can give someone all they will ever need. I personally think Uriah is a hell of a player- he's not pitching to be a solo artist, just a great sideman and he also comes across as one of life's good guys too. I'm a fan.
What's the name of that 'law' that suggests the perceived desirability of a commodity goes up as it's price does?
Fodera's law?
I won't defend or justify them but I can understand them. It used to be Alembic with the crazy prices. Now Fodera has the perception of being the best in the mind of those that think you can buy talent. Those are the people you should ask about justifying the price. If someone offered you $500 a week to come and take out your trash you'd be a fool for turning them down. Outrageous price lists like this create a lot of free advertising and some people just can't break free from the myth that price = quality and the higher the prices go the higher the fans desires go. As a small business they don't have to worry about selling thousands of basses. They only need a few people and they're getting them. Higher prices creates more desire and they will continue to raise them until they run out of buyers. At least Fodera does make a very high quality product and are capitalizing on decades of reputation and celebrity endorsement, not like some others that put out mediocre stuff and just price it outrageously hoping to catch a few fresh fish. Ritter for example Fodera has left the world of quality based pricing and has gone into the same kind of dynamic that makes Picasso's go for millions. Fodera, while being top notch, can be matched in tone and playability by many other builders. But it won't make you the center of attention at Wooten camp the way a rotted chestnut 6 string with extended B headstock will. I don't mean any of this as a slam on Fodera, they're just cashing in the same way Justin Beiber is. I would do the same thing.
Great, great post. Made me smile, made sense and made me smile again.

He just seems to sh*t these monster James Brown-style jams at will. Astonishing. Will never forget him at the O2. Class.
I have some Super Steps coming as I like the B to be tapered over the bridge. I would try DR Long Necks for this reason but haven't found any in the UK yet. Hi Beams and a 128...hmmm, not so sure and I have plenty on those to clean up if I want to do that again DAddario's do a nice set with a tapered 125, IME I do think that changing around between different brands might mean you need to move the neck and play around with an EQ setting a touch.
I might have a 5 string set of Long Necks if you are interested in trying them.
Don't take it personally- it's simply the exchange rate making Euro prices more expensive for the sterling buyer.
