Before we get involved in modes it is worth considering the basic minor scales and its variations. There will be someone better informed than me here but when I have taught I use the natural minor scale as a start point Root, 2nd, min 3rd, 4th, 5th, min 6th, min 7th octave A natural minor would play A B C D E F G A. When I played a classical instrument I was taught the harmonic minor and melodic minor A harmonic minor has a raised 7th- A B C D E F Gsharp A but the gap between the F and Gsharp is considered large and un-melodic (whilst not a complete cardinal sin) As a result when ascending from 6th to 7th the 6th is raised by a semitone and when descending from 7th to 6th the 7th is lowered by a semitone with the 6th unaltered. The resulting scale means a different series of notes going up to the one coming down. A melodic minor ascending and descending is A B C D E Fsharp G sharp A G F E D C B A [url="http://www.tonalcentre.org/Harmonicmi.html"]http://www.tonalcentre.org/Harmonicmi.html[/url] -

The bass player's bass player. A really, really nice player. Everything he does sounds great to me. Too cool.

Wish I'd seen it. Duran Duran were a big influence on me in the mid to late 80s despite me being a rock fan. Learning to play Rio was a bit of a musical epiphany and a stepping stone to 'ghost notes' etc. Bless 'em. -

[quote name='Buzzgroove' post='655667' date='Nov 16 2009, 08:43 AM']Took my vid camera along the other night to see how it would sound. Results seem to be ok through a decent set of monitors (not laptop speakers though, ughhh!) The Geddy is running on passive mode on the J Retro as at the beginning of the night the battery started playing up and being an organized type I didn't have another in my 'box of stuff'. The band has been together for about four rehearsals, we're looking to get out before the end of the year - itching to get gigging regularly again now! [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKru0gpnVDc"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKru0gpnVDc[/url] Trying to work out how to embed the player on the page, once I do I'll post again.[/quote] Reply to your own post, click on the BB Code Help info and scroll down to You Tube (near the bottom)- all the info you need is there.

Hi guys, I need to order about 5+ sets of strings- haven't ordered since the pound declined against the Euro and Dollar so my usual online stores aren't so cheap now. I used to order from a German site but obviously it's now no cheaper than ordering from the UK. 5 sets from the US delivered is about $195 which I'm guessing could end up being £134 (after VAT) + handling charges (would end up being around £30 a set) I'm after DR HiBeams 45-125s. £32 is about the cheapest in the UK unless anyone knows of a better route I can take?

[quote name='wateroftyne' post='654563' date='Nov 14 2009, 03:36 PM'][/quote] It's all about personal taste at the end of the day. A bit like this steak. Chefs will tell you that this is the perfect way to serve a steak- still pink in the middle, but that doesn't mean you have to like it. Well done

Much prefer them with the Gould boys. Phil Gould has that Porcaro understated thing going on.. love it. I remember buying Guaranteed on cassette (1991ish?) and realising that they were no longer fashionable. So much good [i]proper[/i] muso-friendly music around then- Level 42, Hue and Cry, Go West (getting a bit more programmed leading me on to..) Scritti Politti (studio genius) Back to Level 42- no slap but this has to be one of the most haunting tunes for anyone who had their heart broken in the late 80s- sorry to open those old wounds again [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU_xVtM-wsY"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU_xVtM-wsY[/url]

He crops up on a load of 80's pop and fusion stuff- usually with Vinnie on kit.

If you are starting out I think an 828 may be more than you would need. Google somewhere like Digital Village and have a look at their Firewire audio interfaces. For now you can get by on a 4 input, 10 output interface- there are plenty to choose from. They will have 2 mic/line in, usually 2 digital inputs, headphone outputs and several other outs for you to assign to monitors etc. I used an M Audio 410 for about 3 years and was fine for recording 1 or 2 tracks simultaneously. Once you become familiar with what's available and you want to save more have a look on eBay or Basschat. You should be able to pick something up new for around £200 and even less s/h.

This is about as normal as he gets- probably demonstrates his sense of humour too
