Further to my UL310 post a few weeks back I'm looking for some advice on mixing cabs with different ohm-age with a view to scaling down the gear I have. I have an Eden 4x10 XLT(8 ohm), 2x10 XLT (8 ohm) and have recently bought an Epifani UL310 (5.3 ohm) The 4x10 hasn't been used for ages. My head is an Eden WT550 which I see has a rating of 300, 500 and 750 watts at 8, 4 and 2 ohms respectively. My question is this- If I use my UL310 and add the 2x10 as an extension cab what ohm-age is my head running at and would it be safe to do so? I'm guessing so as it would be running at between 2 and 4 ohms? It would be a fairly portable but powerful set-up without the weight and bulk of the 4x10 being needed.
FWIW I have an Eden WT400 which used to max out going through my Agi 112 at a practice. My tip would be to make sure that the Enhance knob is pretty much turned off and then modify the way you use the preamp gain and master volume. I usually turn the Master Vol to about 2 o'clock then increase the preamp gain until you reach the volume required. The other thing I've noticed is that if I have too many low frequencies dialled in, that'll max it out. Trim back the mids and highs instead?
I'll have to back off some of the eq, yes. I'll see how it goes when I use the rig on a different gig in a few weeks- I very rarely use the rig on its own as I always have a monitor mix to beef it up. I noticed the limit being reached when I used the rig in isolation in a different venue.

Mentioned it many a time on BW- Spinning Around by Kylie. Great line- very Bernard Edwards.
Are you clipping the poweramp or the preamp?
It's the poweramp I guess. Not clipping at the input stage- there is a red LED marked Output Clip which I'm lighting up like a christmas tree at times. I confess it's on my low B and I wouldn't describe myself as having a "Willis-like-touch" at all so I can compromise. I just don't want to!! It's frustrating when the cab doesn't feel stretched but the head does IYKWIM.

What head do people use to get the most out of the 310's odd impedance of 5.3 ohms? The cab is rated at 750w but using my Eden WT550 I am clipping the output limit of my head so not really getting as much out of the cab as I would want . Its probably mostly caused by the low end frequencies coming from the onboard pre and amp eq but we're not talking sub-sonic here by any stretch. I can compromise and re-eq but just wondering if anyone has found ohm-nirvana with this cab?

Birelli Lagrene plays Jaco - and sounds like him for real...

Phenomenal for a non-bassist to get that close. No-one nails Jaco's 16's patterns like Jaco tho. Great stuff from 3.15 onwards... -
With my KISS Tribute Band 'Dressed To Kill' I've been lucky enough to share the stage and play alongside various KISS members (Bruce Kulick, Mark St John, Peter Criss & Eric Singer). I've also performed for KISS members Gene Simmons & Ace Frehley and manager Bill Aucoin.
Ahh- so it's you. Much admiration for your band!

Saw him with AH and Gary Husband in 1989-ish in Newcastle in my college days. After about 20 mins my head was fried!
Aha ! Maybe that's where all the confusion started. John must've said to someone "My bass player DI'ed" and someone misreported this.
Excellent
I have a bass part I did for this- I'll try and dig it out and post it here.
I hope this isn't breaching any copyright. I asked the man himself about how he counted the bars after the chorus. Apparently Marcus counted the opening bar as a 5/4 bar with the slide being beat 1. The round and round repeat at the end is edited for the version we did- the original is a fade.
Well, I saw him last night at London's Jazz Cafe and he is indeed using SWR. Looks like they've made him a signature M2 preamp which he was putting through a pair of goliath 4x10s by way of a goliath 750 power amp. I was about 8 feet from his rig and it pretty much blew me away, both in tone and power.
He ragged the arse out of that rig didn't he?!
Bought the Lakland off someone on bass world months ago. Ever since Ive had it set up I have had nothing but trouble with it. The neck is constantly bending, and now there is a metallic vibration sound on the A string. Any ideas what the problem is. Or are they renound for going out so much having such thin necks? Christian
Sounds like your bass has been set up incorrectly or the neck has moved since. Was the set up done by someone of repute? There is no generic problem with Laklands in that department. Take it to a reknowned guitar tech and explain your problem- many things can cause the problem you have.
Marcus now has an 'unofficial relationship' with EBS. He still uses it but is contractually a free agent.
Cue flood of EBS gear on second hand market.... -
Epifani UL310 - good condition - I have owned it from new - it has been gigged but has been looked after - I will post pics tomorrow - it is probably the best cab I have owned - great sound easy lift - but nearly all my gigs are now through PA so this is just not getting used - for sale £500 delivered cheers
Can you elaborate on 'good condition'- any scrapes in coab covering or dents in grille? What stops it being very good condition?

I'm there- but bloody hell £5 booking fee and £2 postage per ticket! Makes a £27 ticket a bit pricier. I saw Prince at the Dome for about the same. I love it that he isn't doing a weekend slot again this year. Makes it impossible for most musicians to get down to see him as we will all be earning our pittance elsewhere. It'll still be a 6hr round trip but I can remember him starting up with Higher Ground last year and almost shitting my pants with the volume and clarity of the bass. Not the kind of sound for anyone lacking in confidence- which he clearly isn't!
