1. I bought this bass on here as a back up to my main bass (also irrational GAS) but it just isn't getting the use I thought it might so it's time to free up some funds. I subsequently ordered a black pick guard from Jeannies as needed it to feel the same as my 'A' bass if ever I needed to slap- the bass was set up at The Gallery and has been played twice since. (The guard is held on with double sided tape so is easily removed) A Lakland case is included which has had a fair bit of wear externally but will offer protection in the case of a couriered delivery. The bass is virtually as new- I would describe it as in A- condition . Made in Indonesia with the newer LH-3 system and Lakland pick-ups. Price is £690 collected (unable to edit price or trade value)
2. Not a fan of miming though.
3.
I have no problem with using a pre-recorded intro to blockbuster, you could even have a bit of fun with it by wondering where it's coming from. I'd laugh anyway. You'd be playing the actual song live. I have no problem with a keyboard player playing the horn parts, string parts or even voices, or a drummer with an electronic drum kit playing samples as they'd be playing it live. It's the use of backing tracks to replace musicians or because you can't play it live and miming that I think are totally inexcusable and cheating. While discussing this thread with the rest of the band last night, our drummer went as far as to proclaim that he felt that any band using backing tracks instead of musicians and or miming should be forced to display this on any advertising and posters. Just think, that guy playing and singing to karaoke backing tracks has taken your job and your wages.
But the keyboard player playing the horn and string parts could arguably be robbing horn and string players of a gig. This was the scenario when the organ and subsequently the synthesiser became popular way back when. The karaoke fella fits in in the same way- he's cheaper than a band. That's the way it is in our business just like everyone else's business.
4. The band sound great here- great clip.
5. Another build? You got time on your hands again Kevin? Ha ha. Enjoy it mate :-)
6.
I think it is because he is from Cardiff and we all played like that in Cardiff at the time.
Ha ha ha ha.
7.
If half of us had Steve Jordan (and, indeed, Mayer) to bounce off and played that often as a trio, we would probably sound that good.
I disagree. So there. But I would like to give it a go.
8. I have recently been left on the mac scrap heap. It's only natural I guess but I can't justify the outlay on new laptops and a desktop so I can run new software. I couldn't upgrade to Mountain Lion as my Macs were about 4-5 yrs old and subsequently I can't upgrade to the new Logic Pro as I can't run Mountain Lion. Boom. It feels like I am running OS9 :-( As for any new computers not have optical drives- don't even get me started on that one :-)
9. This was a great gig- I remember when it was first aired and yes, funny that bassist and guitarist switch for this number.
10. To answer the OP, no this is not the norm for all cruises. Maybe there is something different about this contract.
11.
We're lucky to have him.
There's your answer- your regular guy has a proven track record and you now have a killer dep. Win win :-) I know what u mean though- for me it can be down to personality and a connection but also it's to do with that one-off dep related adrenaline hit. I've enjoyed gigs so much more when it's been a bit seat-of-the-pants but gone really well.
12.
Just heard it this morning, on my TV the Bass was pumping through, loads of bottom end, and crisp highs.... He was over playing the up slides and shakes a bit - but hey, it was top live entertainment and fun. Nile Rodgers was terrific..!! Great show all round. Garry
Garry, not for the first time you think along the same lines as me. I just watched it with my better half and said the same thing. He seems to be given free rein in the band and grabs it with both hands
13. Traditional for me- a piano version of the Wedding March but we signed the register to Overjoyed by Stevie and then Marcus Miller's Free.
14. Claaaaaang!!!! Whatcha Kevin. How come Steve Pearce isn't doing these rounds then? Diary issues?
15.
Fave track on the album though is 'Fragments of Time', it's got that west coast feel ala Steely Dan/Aja
Yes. Yes. Yes. I read a review which compared it to Hall & Oates but I heard it as Steely Dan. I have to say I LOVE this album- its not flawless but I can't stop listening to it. There's nothing particularly groundbreaking either, it just resonates with me. There are so many elements that I love on this album- the 80s session musician feel, the ballsy 5 string bass, the story telling in "Giorgio" (not verbal but musical- starting with that 70s click and ending with the dance kick drum), the trademark DP Discovery-esque solos. Regarding the change in direction I think we have to respect it- they have done Homework and Discovery, and those releases are part of DP history now. As they have matured I guess they wanted to show 'the kids' how they were influenced. I will be listening to this album for most of the summer but I reckon I'll be revisiting early Daft Punk, Donald Fagen and a whole host of goodies with John Robinson on :-)
16. Incredible TB thread. Thanks for the link. Such a cathartic journey for him.
17.
Discovery. I mean, what an album that was.
So good. It's the only other album I have of theirs but this will be remedied- Homework and Human After All for £3.99 on iTunes? It'd be rude not too. Gonna be a Daft Summer :-) I'm still loving Giorgio off RAM.
18. Still wading through it- favourite so far has to be Giorgio by Moroder. Looking forward to seeing the credits etc to find out who plays on what. The album will definitely be my summer CD, much like Discovery was in 2001.
19. I'm with risingson. As much as I think Get Lucky has a cool vibe IMO I would have liked the signature Daft Punk-ness, which happens towards the end, a little sooner say after the first chorus. As it is it's nice and cool but could just as likely be a Jamiroquai track with Pharell on vocals (edit- and Nile Rodgers on guitar)
20.
He comes way off the scale of MJ, it's not even comparable.
Not even that close to Prince to be fair but what he is doing is bringing performance and entertainment back to live shows- choreographed band routines etc which is a nod to Prince and his side projects and through Prince, James Brown.
21. My first experience was Teen Town from 8.30. A bit clanky and confused to my young, inexperienced ear. The 'hit by a train' moment was a many months later hearing A Remark You Made. If I listen to that tune I'm transported back to my late teens.
22. Some of Sting's solo stuff is so memorable- Fields of Gold, Seven Days etc but it's his stuff with The Police which really stands out for me. Edgier, more exciting, less polished perhaps. Maybe Copeland is the thing that gives it that edge for me, that danger. Whenever I see Taylor Hawkins drum I think of Copeland mixed with Dave Grohl which really equals some serious energy and commitment to a part or song.
23. When buying my current car( a smaller car that was I was used to) I surprised the dealer when I pulled a gig bag and bass cab out of my old car to see if it would fit the new one. Not the usual requirement- I think they design these boots with golf clubs or pushchairs in minds- just not bass cabs :-)
24. Loved it. I have some of his music- not much, but I can listen to the guy talk forever. A passionate performer too.
