Damn you all. I run a MAG 300 210 combo with a MAG 115 ext. I've been considering getting rid of the combo and going for an ABM EVO III and either a 210 cab or a 410 cab. Up until reading this thread I had put the idea to bed after good comments on the sound of my bass at a recent gig. You've provided the petrol to a smouldering ember. Damn you!

Just had a great gig with my band Ravenous. Great crowd, we were really tight and had a lot of fun. Downsides: got a puncture had to lug all the gear back to storage when wheeling my kit across the pavement I hit a stone and the amp and cab fell over had to turn down 4 bookings due to others in the band being away on holiday. It is all outweighed by the great gig though!

Well last night I again took my toolbox. Again I got the Mickey taken out of me. Funny when the light rig didn't work I got asked the question "have you got a multimeter?" "Yes" was my reply. Problem found and subsequently sorted.

Don't know much about the Ampeg stuff but I've been told that they do a 6x10 cab that is a happy halfway between the 4x10 and 8x10 (quite literally) as well as it being much lighter. There is a bloke I saw on youtube with one - looked cool with the svt head (don't know which one) on the top.

The guys in the band laugh at me as I bring a small flightcase full of tools to gigs. I see it as the essentials; gaffer, screwdrivers, wire snips, wire stippers, torch, multimeter, batteries, 9v power supply, soldering iron, post-its, pens, pencils, permanent marker, plectrums, string cleaner, microfibre cloth. I even have a string winder, set of guitar strings, slide and drum key. Nobody else brings anything other than a spare set of strings/ sticks. Am I the only one who can imagine someone rolling a trolley/ dropping a cab/ trapping in a door a cable etc. and need to do a quick fix? I will admit to being in the scouts

Let them do their job. However, on the opposite side of the fence, I had sound guy tweak one of my pedals when I was off stage. I asked what he was doing and he said he liked a particular sound from that pedal. It went from a crunchy overdriven to FUZZ. I asked if I could boost all channels on the mixer @ 1.4khz. He asked why. I replied "I like that particular frequency..."

2x 1 hour + 4 encores is our max. Venues may ask for less, if so, so be it. Gives us a chance to condense the set list and tailor it to the audience a bit more.

I gigged with a band that the more tickets you sold the closer you got to the main band. As we got more popular we sold more tickets and got to the spot before the main act on night. This gave me longer at the bar and a few (far too many) JD's later the guitarist was reteaching me the songs and all I could say back to him was 'you're a good mate you are..' Turned out I was pretty mental on stage jumping around etc. got through gig apparently... I now only have the one pint whilst I am setting up giving it plenty of time to clear my system before we actually play.

It's a double ended sword. Right to left works great if you have one signal path. To creates mucho problemo when you start adding two and wireless unit...

We had the same when we auditioned for a new vocalist. A young bloke - tried his best but was 18 with lack of experience. We made sure we did the supportive role - we've all been there! He's even been in touch since for advice!

My band tend to at least want our petrol covered. We are playing a beer festival and due to the number of bands it is £20 each. This won't cover the petrol but due to it being a large crowd and there is free beer thrown in it'll make it a good laugh especially as we are staying over.

Are you sure it's not your leads or power supply? Thinking about an engineers workstation they'll have everything ship shape and Bristol if you get me. I use a Korg PB and have had no problems with it. I also use a range of boss problems and have NEVER had one fail. My BF-2 is from 1982 and after a gig I was putting my stuff in the car, (this was before I had a pedal board) only to forget the BF-2. It was left in the car park all night and it rained. I dried it off and it worked fine...

Line 6 Relay G30/50/90 Encrypted WIFI signals, cable simulation, great range. I use the G50. Main reason I went for this is because we occasionally play gigs with more than one band and the Line 6 Relay system is getting popular! This means that while my band are not using the same channel (the G50 has 12) I got worried that someone in the wings tuning up could interfere with my signal! I get the feeling the same could happen when I start playing the beer festivals later on in the year. I tend to put up a sticker with my bands name and what channel I am on - a couple of guitarists have said they found that useful as they ran the same Line 6 Relay system. The G50 goes all the way down to 10hz so plenty low enough and with the cable simulation I am able to remove that digitally bright, crisp tone - I only role it on a bit just warm the sound up a bit. Other have mentioned the possibility of signal compromise due to lots of devices running wifi - it is encrypted so there is no problem - your laptop doesn't suddentl pickup your neighbours websites due to signal crossover. There are over 12 wifi networks available to me where I am sat at the moment and the same principle applies. It works well with passive. active, bass, guitar. I am proper impressed with it. Another advantage - I can take a walk during sound check (we don't have a sound engineer anymore as he is now the bassist! ie me!) and check how we sound - the ability to do that is at times priceless with the weird and wonderful venues we play! Buy. Buy. Buy.

I got a Line 6 Relay G50 rig and thought I'd go for a wander during a sound check. The pub was already getting pretty full so waded through to a place I would stand if I was watching. I've been tempted of late getting rid of my Ashdown gear and going for the RH450 TCE head and cabs, however, after hearing it as the audience would hear it I'm certainly not selling even though the TCE gear is a couple of league above my Ashdown gear.

The red lead is my emergency input cable if my G50 fails. I can quickly swap that into the input of the LS-2 and bang a lead into the main input on the pedal board. I know it is Boss heavy but it does the trick. I've had some of these pedals laying around from when I was a guitarist. A part form the G50 I haven't pad more than £30 for a pedal and got the Boss BCB-60 dead cheap too.

We got a deal as band on getting our rear windows tinted to help when we have to leave bits in the cars. More secure and you can't see in. The great thing is that we all drive new black cars - We look quite daunting when we pull up in convoy!
