1.
I've got the SKB case for my Hiwatt head; it was a bit hard to get at the time because SKB didn't have a UK distributor. Mine came from Thomann & was around £130. Lightweight, with pull-out handle & wheels; you could buy extra foam to pad up the slant front on yours.
Which case is it that you have got? Is it Hiwatt specific?

  2.
Excellent, glad to hear it. Would be interested to know what happened.
Ashdown said they will be back in touch.

  3.
Hurrah.

    What was the problem?
Don't know yet. I got a replacement sent as it'd been less than 30 days from purchase.

I have been in touch with Guy from Ashdown and logged the serial number and my notes of the amp blowing as I want to know what went wrong.

He said he'd et back to me to let me know and put my mind to rest. 24 hour response from Ashdown and replacement within a working day from Andertons.

Can't wait to move some air on Friday!

  4.
I treated myself to one of these Anderton specials too!
    Frigging awsome!!
Hey, did they send you the mini neo115h cab? They did me, rather than the bigger 115h neo, and i love it, and soooo light too!

Ordered a set of flightcases from flightcase uk. I'll keep you updated when i pick em up etc!

What a truly awsome rig though!
They did send my the Compact Neo 115h. I rang up to complain that it wasn't what was advertised but like you i'm glad it's the cab it is. It is nice and light and punchy to the ear.

I'm considering a flightcase for the head and then padded covers the cabs. I don't want to add 50kgs to the overall weight of the rig in flight cases. I think the case for the head is 10kg adding a 1/4 of the weight but then again that needs to be well looked after!

How much did you get the flight cases for? Did you get a multi buy deal at all.
Keep us up to date with what they find please. :)
Will do matey.

  5. Got a replacement today and it works fine in every configuration!

Trying out at all output levels was a bit tough on my sash windows and too much for the clock on my wall. I hope the same doesn't go for clocks as it does for mirrors!

    WHOOP!

Guy from Ashdown has also been in touch regarding the issue and he'll get back to me with the results. I still want to know why it went pop!

  6. I agree with the rack mounting but I went for the Klystron because it also has great stage presence over the EVOIII!

I don't know how easy it would be to rack also as it has a sloping front panel.

There is a rack mount version out there. Adam Clayton uses it from U2.

The flight case varieties I've seen that could work are:

Live - the front and back come of like in a rack yet it is still in a flight case
Top off - Amp stays sat in the the tray and just have to find somewhere to stow the lid. I guess I could stick a Zildjian sticker on it and tell the drummer its a cymbal...

Here is a picture of the Klystron I've just taken from my phone to show you what I mean about it rack-ability:

  7.
Here they are. I'm sure there are others out there, too.

EDIT: Colin (IIRC) said he no longer owns those shorts FYI
Whats the difference between the hard and semi flight cases? - I can't find on the site (without contacting them) the difference between them.

Thanks for the links by the way.

  8. This is an example I have seen:

  9.
A soft shell hard case is my preference. Have used these in the past with lots of basses, and my Vigier came with a custom fit teardrop shape one - much lighter than a hard case and offer more protection than a softcase!

Can you get them for bass heads as well as that looks like a case for a guitar not for the amp head?

  10. Now I know that if money and weight were not an issue a flight case it the way to go.

I want to get some kind of protection for my Klystron 500.

Looking at flight cases I'm looking at ~£150 and adding 10kg weight

Looking at padded cases I'm looking at ~£50 and adding 2kg (or probably less)

This head is my first 'high end' one and I want to look after it. Ok, it's valve is only in the preamp but I do see this amp as more delicate compared to my mag heads. The shape of the Klystron with its angled front also leaves it open to having the knobs knocked off it.

I do pub gigs weekly so can cover the cost very quickly.

    What would you do?
    Is a flight case overkill?
Will a padded case offer enough protection?

Do you recommend any companies for flight cases/ padded cases?

    Thanks in advance

  11.
You like the new rig then?
HELL YES. It sounds mint!

    One problem though.

I set it up at home to start to dial in my tone etc.

Packed up the head in the OEM box to transport to a gig (the same day I got it)

Setup at the gig (following all the precautions etc.)

Tuned up at the volumes I used at home

    Turned the output from 8 o'clock to 10 o'clock

    POP!

Still get an input signal, the line out still works (as I tried into another amp)
    Cabs are fine (thank god)

Ran home and got another rig (luckily I was playing in the same town)

I reckon the fuse has gone on the output side. 1p part letting the side down.

I'm not going in to fix it so I've rang where I got the rig from and they have sent one out already by courier ready for tomorrow.
Gonna try it out at a range of volumes (apologies to Lincoln in advance) before gigging on Friday again...

Pretty miffed and it has un-nerved me. I've had 3 Ashdown rigs before this one.

I've checked all my cables from power to speaker. Can't think it was them anyway.

Do you think I should get a flight case or just a padded case for the head to protect it?

  12.
my my, thats a very nice rig indeed!

It's probably the fuse on the output side - it's easy to replace but worth working out why it went.. IME it happens when you've plugged something in with the amp turned on.. .
Between you and me, I've opened her up and had a voltmeter across ALL the fuses inside and they ALL gave me the beep to show there is continuity.
I'm going to have another look today. It was 3am when I looked last night although the multimeter doesn't lie.

I plugged everything in, hit the mute button, then turned the amp on, didn't play for a little while (whilst I setup PA etc.) thinking it's new and I'll let it warm up.

Pushed to un mute and then tuned up at around 8 o'clock. Happy with my input level (waving around 12-1 o'clock) I thought I'd turn it up incrementally as I had not had it past 8 o'clock at home (the sash windows wouldn't take anymore!). I was literally watching the input, played a little and then I heard the tiny pop. Which sound like a fuse - it is that stereotypical sound that usually cause your eyes to roll towards the ceiling!

I'm gutted but I know there will be a solution somewhere down the line. Needless to say my mind was trying to remember A-level electronics from a decade ago rather than playing the bass live...

You know that rapture thing... maybe it applied to amplifiers and not people...

  13. It's a fancy doorstop at the moment.

Went to gig it last night, checked my input level was ok and then went to turn the output level from 2 -4... POP!! Still getting input signal but NOTHING from the output section - not even hiss/ buzz/ crackle. The popping sound I heard I'd have thought is a fuse but I'm not opening it up. I'll ring on Monday for a replacement...

Luckily I was close enough to home to get the trusty MAG 300 out... Bad times.

  14. the great thing is that I've sold my Mag 300 210t, Mag 115, Boss GEB-7, Boss OC-3, Boss ODB-3, Boss LS-2 and a camera lens I haven't used in a while (Nikon Nikkor 300mm f/4 - that I bought for 175 and sold for 427...) to cover the price of the rig AND have money left over to get a flight case for the Klystron head (those knobs being on a slope worries me slightly but looks ace!)

  15. Well I had been looking into a new rig for a while.

    So I went for this:

    I am very happy.

It's also meant I can ditch 4 pedals (that I only used subtly anyway) and integrate the Ashdown 4 way selector into my pedalboard.

  16.
Speakon and jack, great cabs good gas! what config you gone for?
Moved from my mag 300 210t + mag 115 to the Klystron 500 head and 210 + 115 neo cabs.

Took advantage of the Andertons deal - I had fancied the evo3 for a while and was actually in the process of purchasing when I saw the deal for £999.

I've sold tons of stuff recently (pedals a barely use etc and the mag cabs) and self funded it!

    Love the retro head look.

  17. What speaker connections are at the back of the current ABM 4x10?

Can't seem to find out anywhere!!!

I'm wondering whether I can get away with my ODBM 1/4" to speakon

(I'm going from an ABM EVOIII)

    Thanks in advance,

    Josh

  18. Are you perceiving the lack of fullness based on you being stood on stage or in the audience.

I've had a similar thing happen to me where I thought my rig was not cutting through and having the lows etc. When I got my wireless unit and sound checked in the crowd (much to their amusement) it sounded full and cut through well.
