Mesa Boogie Buster<<Withdrawn - can't bear to part with it>>
Norm replied to Platypus's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Hi platypus, you would have beat me up to listed price then:-) which was a very good price. Should of bit yer hand off but I'm a cautious soul when it comes to money (especially mine!) as its just what I'm after. Dont blame you for keeping it, thats why they dont come up very often, quality kit well loved! All the best, Norm. -

Will deffo be gassing for a Valve amp (trace v4 head or combo, orange AD200, hiwatt DR201). Oh & maybe something passive & fender'y (CIJ 70's re-issue jazz?) for a change from my 'Ray. Need to offload current 2nd bass first though. Oooh & might look for a budget fretless for an sonic experiment. And obviously a couple more pedals, maybe chorus, delay & summat to create noisy weirdness. Not much really, eh? Ho hum, better get saving! Happy new year, BC'ers! Norm

I was born in East Tilbury, only lived there until I was 3, so's I don't remember much about it. Glad to know it was the posh bit though! Cheers, Norm

Been there many times in the dim & distant past. There are always other opportunities. Actually getting a band to a place where it is gigging & recording is an achievement not to be underestimated. Keep trying, you will find the right people to play with! Cheers, Norm -
Like that! Look forward to some more. Cheap bass or not, sounds great. Cheers, Norm

Ssschweet Dbass sound. Good work fella! Coincidentally just been listening to the original of that track, great opening lines. Cheers, Norm.
Same problem, love earplugs at band practice, but can't hit a note if I can't hear myself well...
Me too, at first. But I have persevered & am getting better at singing with them in. My wife was noticing my increasing deafness so got on to me about wearing the plugs I already had, which I wasn't wearing as I was struggling to pitch. I was singing lead in that band but now in new band just doing backing vox. I found letting myself "hear" my voice in my head allowed me to pitch in with the main singer. I was fighting it before, now I just relax & let it out. I'm never going to be a great singer but I've got better at it since I've been doing this. Cheers & keep those plugs in! Norm
After recording session over the weekend, I realise how crap I am. Even the singer noted "you are one of the best bassists I've seen, but you are also the most inconsistent".... In terms of pulling it off and not that is. I'm putting in the hours of practice and I've played a tonn of gigs but he is right. Sometimes I'm just sh*t, and sometimes I feel like I'm making it intentionally hard for myself. I wish I could turn up and play roots and fithes with a pick and a bit of distortion, but it's not interesting enough for me at all and I'll just give up playing. I know I can get it right on the night sometimes but not often enough and it's making me rather depressed and since coming home from the studio I've not even bothered setting up my gear again. Have I faced an inconvenient truth, and give up to start spanking the tiny sixers again? How can I recapture the magic and be content with my abilities. ? I don't know what is wrong with me.
PrimeBass, I feel you are being a bit too hard on yourself. Sure, we all have a downer somedays where it feels like nowt is going right, thats just part of the artistic, creative process & mindset. A pressure situation like recording can compound that, especially if the vibe isn't quite right. Try something different for a couple of days, leave the bass alone. Play another instrument, listen to some completely different music than usual. Come back to it fresh. All the best, Norm
I am thinking about buying a Sunburst Precision because a. It will blend in better with the band rather than my white precision and b. I seem to be comfotable playing a precision and c. the tone seems to work best with this band. My only concern is I hate Sunburst
+1 on hating sunburst. Blend in with the band? WHY? White basses look the finest IMO, take a look at the pic in your sig for proof. Cheers, Norm.
I was kind of the same, my girlfriend said my eyes lit up like a kids would on Christmas day. I took the plunge though and tried a few things out, and they couldn't have been nicer about it really.
Yes, me too, I was probably probably drooling slightly too. Keep going back to look at a CV Squier jazz with all that bling stuff in front of me. I already bloody know what they're like! Must try harder next time.
He uses a modified thumb pick, which sort of looks like he is just using his thumb.
What like a finger pickers one for lap steel type of thingy? Wasn't close enough to see that & beer was involved! Cheers, Norm.

Had a trip to deliver some of my wife paintings to a new gallery in london a couple of weeks ago. Got it done early so made a 1st time visit to the bass gallery. Went in & was blown away, just couldn't take it in! Too many basses, amps & everything. Couldn't try anything, just wandered around like a twat for a while then left. Same used to happen to me in record shops, I'd go completely blank & leave without buying anything. The only thing I remember was a sweet old trace v6 valve head just inside the door! Felt like a right dickhead! oh well I'll have to go back again with a written shopping list. Cheers, Norm.
A bit like that old Arnold Palmer quote (I think) about golf being a game of luck - and the more he practiced the luckier he got.
+1 It was about somebody calling him a lucky golfer, & that was his reply. I think it's about having a need/desire to do it, then having the circumstances to make that possible. Sometimes talent will not be used for a variety of reasons (personal, social, circumstansial etc). Talent itself is only one component of a complex set of interconnected things (jeesus, hark at eeeeee!!!) Cheers, Norm.
