3. 'A Lass... In a Band!?' Said to me years ago by an incredulous drumist when I brought a lass into our band
4. The neck was $390 plus $63 postage, gives £233 + £38 = £271. So I wasn't far off.
5.
Really? £250 for a Warmoth, where??
From Warmoth. Maybe I'll have to check my receipt again!
6. I've had 4 made from The Bass Doc. Highly recommended.
7. £500?! Who's he kidding? What's it made of, gold? I got a Warmoth quarter sawn, graphite stiffners, graphite nut, nitro finished neck for about half that. I'd not entertain this shyster any longer, get on t'internet to Warmoth or Allparts. If you fancy a decent budget one, check out Mighty Mite.
8. I just want to give a +1 for Rosetti customer service, who I believe are the importers/distributors for RIC. I called Rosetti this week to source 2 replacement gear bolts for a couple of tuners on my newly acquired 4001. The person on the phone was as helpful as helpful can be. They had none in stock, but asked me to send a pic that could be forwarded to RIC. All the time calling me back as promised. Eventually they said RIC could send the bolts and washers, and was very apologetic that there would to be a charge (£5.75 for a bolt and washer). They thought RIC might just throw them into a consignment, but said sometimes they do this. TBH I don't think the price is that bad, I was waiting for them to say they were £20 each. Any-hoo, I'm having to wait for them to come with the next batch of Rics from the USA. Apparently Rics come when they come and no date can be given. BTW, here is the pic I sent. See if you can spot the original bolts and the bogus ones jammed in with a bit of plakka!
9. The Ric is getting some TLC with some new flats and bolts for 2 of the tuners. The bolts are on order from Rosetti and are coming from Ric, so may take a while.
10. Had a run out with the rig last night and it was proper awesome with the Coronado. Just bassey and thumpy with a touch of growl and bite. Very pleased. Can't wait to try it with the Ric
11. I've changed the topic title from NAD, so this thread can become an ongoing type diary/blog thing for the rig.
12. I visited Andy Baxter the other day in my quest for a Ric, and he had plenty of Fenders in there. He travels a lot, probably buying stock, but I did get and answer from his land line listed on his web site. Don't worry about the appointment bit, it's because he does not have a shop front and you need to make a time so you can find the place. It's a veritable cavern of interestingness when you get in there, and it's well worth a visit. Andy is also a stand-up dude and very easy going. So he gets a thumbs up from me
13. All money is fake, a promise if you will, that can disappear on the wind.
14.
And Nigel Harrison from Blondie. He was not invited to take part in the reunion a few years back for some reason.
All that reunion was a bit rum. To start with they asked the original original bassist, Gary Valentine. They didn't include Frank Infante either. After a while they had session players for bass and guitar.
15. The latest edition, and finally after wanting a Ric for years.
16.
IIRC older Ricks are recommended to use TI Flats (they being best tension wise for the idiosyncratic necks and truss rods - I got this from the * hushed voice * Rick forum * oops I said it)
Would Thomastik JF344 4-String Jazz Flatwound 43-100 long scale be the cheese?
17.
I've already sold off a bit (6 strings mainly) to get where I am. I'm lucky enough to have made a little on what I've sold, and bought at good prices, so at the moment it's feeding itself. I really wanted to get down to having only 3 basses, which would be my Rutter La Cab P, a Ric and a TBird (incoming from the Doc). The wild card was the Coronado, and right now there is no way I'd let it go. So four it is. BTW, if I had GAS for anything else it would be for a bullion gold Gibson EB14, but I just can't go down that road right now
Hey, 2000th anniversary post! How cool is that? Tell you what, It's been a really good day today. I woke up in Brighton at 0730 (still pissed from the night before), was on the first of 5 trains to get me to Gt. Yarmouth at 0830. Each train I caught I got within 5 mins of the last one, and that was on a day of engineering and delays. Rode the football special from Cambridge to Norwich having a few beers with the Y*d Army. From Norwich I got to Gt Yarmouth, met the seller in the station car park, did the deal in 10mins, and was back on the same train to Norwich, this time having a beer with the Norwich City fans on the way to the same match! Then Cambridge, King Cross, Paddington and home in Slough by 7pm. I love it when a plan comes together!
18.
So - are you going to be selling off any tasty basses to make room for this, or just letting the collection grow and grow!?
I've already sold off a bit (6 strings mainly) to get where I am. I'm lucky enough to have made a little on what I've sold, and bought at good prices, so at the moment it's feeding itself. 19.
You're just swanning around from one classic purchase to the next! How dare you have so much fun!! Glad you got a good one though Sean, I've been unlucky and only played dogs so far.
It's the only fun I get these days, believe me! Since I went down the road of wanting a Ric I played a goodly handful, and the neck on this is one of the two best I've tried. The other was on a Mapleglo at Bass Gear. Although the Bass Gear one was pretty pristine, but who wants boring old Mapleglo
ROCK! Nice colour Sean. IIRC older Ricks are recommended to use TI Flats (they being best tension wise for the idiosyncratic necks and truss rods - I got this from the * hushed voice * Rick forum * oops I said it)
Well, in keeping with the spirit of advice from BC I'll bung a set of them on. The neck is a difficult one with the two rods and that, but I had a look under the cover before purchase and both bolts looked equal, straight and untouched. I'd seen some where it looked like the bolts were collapsing, or not parallel with each other, so we should be OK. Saying that, a couple of the big bolts in the back of the tuners have been changed for what looks like smaller metric ones that have been jammed in with a plastic 'shim', but hopefully finding the AF size should be an easy fix. But between them and a good neck, I know what I'd rather have.
20. Edit. Change of thread title to an ongoing concern Been travelling all day to pick this one up... Presenting my 1980 4001 in Azure-glow Sounds spot on, I'm just disappointed it's a bit late to be turning things up. Neck is dead straight and a pretty low action. More than a handful of 'Mojo', but nothing hideous. Very nice to play, the neck is nice and slim and smooth, and I'm finding the sweet spot with the neck pup on full and the bridge on half. I'm going to get it to Julian Mullan for a full service and fix-up. Thinking about some nice chrome flats. At the moment it's wearing yukky Roto stainless cheese graters. Very happy
21.
Any idea what the difference is between the 2013 version and the 2014 version apart from the Gibson anniversary logo at the 12th fret??
Changed jack position from the front to the side. And colours, I think.
22. I think the gold looks superb, and the vintage looking case is well tasty. Did like the elephant ears tho
23. I've been doing loads of reading on here and TB, and it does seem that these tweeters do hiss a bit. Like I say, I've never had a cab with one in before. I was just playing my passive Coronado direct into the amp, without the Eq channel and everything at 12.
24. Because it's a laminate neck-thru it should be very stable. I had a Gibson TBird and it was rock solid even though the neck was very slim. I had a Hipshot Supertone on, so that might have helped, and the Grovers seemed very good. The only thing I can think of is the threaded ferrules that the bridge bolts screw into might be lifting slightly and may need re-seating.
