Do instruments behave differently in space?
Billy Apple replied to MiltyG565's topic in General Discussion
My Coronado sounds great in space, although it did develop a bit of buzz on the interstellar warp-drive recently. Luckily I know a great luthier on Ahfa al Farkadain. Turns out it was the negative-reality inverter. Bloody Fender! I can't believe they are selling basses with basic issues like this! -
Valve amp speaker cables causing problems?
Billy Apple replied to SkinnyMike's topic in Repairs and Technical
You know, I read stuff like this and wonder why we are getting 'whats wrong with Basschat threads. Excellent stuff. My advice would be to check the spindley-doofer running off the foo-foo valve -
Help Needed! NR Thunderbird Scratch Plate
Billy Apple replied to Billy Apple's topic in General Discussion
You could try contacting: http://www.terraping...m/pdfFiles.html Cheerz, John
Thanks John, I can see one on the site but I've emailed them -
HELP PLEASE! Some of you may have read my Bass Doc non-reverse Thunderbird build. The Doc is needing a template to make a scratch plate and TRC. Does anyone have a non-reverse Thunderbird that you could take the scratch plate and TRC off, draw round them carefully on a piece of card and mail the card to the Doc? I'd be very grateful of anyone could do this, please PM if you can

Valve Amplifiers Only. No Hybrids / Valve pre-amps..
Billy Apple replied to VTypeV4's topic in Gear Gallery
Guess what came in the post this morning, all the way from Newcastle? Have just this minute unpacked and photographed. Just as soon as the temperature equalises I'll fire it up and see what's what! It smells OLD - like a church. Burman MPA preamp and SL100 Powerpak power amp. Hand made in 1972 by Greg Burman. Four ECC83s in the pre and one ECC83 (I think) and four EL34s in the power, all 70s Mullards : Inside the Powerpak. A quartet of lovely EL34s. Check out the size of those transformers: The only non-standard fitting is the PowerCON mains connector, as the original Bulgin went tits-up, apparently. I suppose I could get an 'authentic' Bulgin socket and plug fitted, but I'm not that much of a geek about it ...yet.
A Church? A Cathedral more like. A Cathedral of Rock! -
I built a bitsa with a body I got for buttons on ebay, a mighty mite neck and original fender LX and hardware. It sounded awesome and I sold it on for a decent price. Would've kept it but the body was a bit heavy for me. If I was building a bitsa again there is no way I'd buy a Fender body for £100's. I'd try to get a s/h one for cheap (and light weight), but I'd not skimp on the neck, pups l/x and h/ware. But you don't really build these things for the resale value, you build them to get what you want, and for a hobby if you are that way inclined

Just had a Christmas visit to the Docs to see how my build is going. Very impressed with the body, well built, solid but light weight. I thought the body looked a bit thick in the pics, but it's nice and slim, with a lovely fret board. Howard has fitted the string anchor, tuners, nut and some strings, so I got a good feel for it. The tuners are super cool and super lightweight, the lightest vintage style ones Gotoh do (I think). The two piece bridge is excellent quality, especially for the price. The bone nut is hand made and beautiful. Howard says it came from a Golden Eagle . I thought it might have come from his turkey The Pups look great. Very well made, and nicely packaged. If they sound half as good as they look they should be ace. The only thing I need to source now is somebody with a non reverse pick guard who would draw round it on a piece of card and send it to the Doc. I'll post up an appeal, but please let me know if you are reading this and might be able to help. Pics from today's outing..
Thanks. Always nice to hear nice things about the instrument you just bought! Looking forward to when I can get it sorted out. Amazing how a music shop could do that. They are sending a medium scale set of strings in the new year. According to the D'Addario fitting guide, mediums fit 32-34" basses (measured nut to ball), and the EA-260 is about 33.5" so should be just right.
On one hand it's a easy mistake to make. My Coronado is short scale, but takes medium scale strings due to the 2 piece trapeze bridge. But you'd think the shop would see the error with the silk over the nut. Now that is proper dumb. At least they are sending the right length.

Dancer, Prancer, Donna and Basser. Priceless Clarky

I love my Coronado which feels far from short scale to me, plus I'm tall-ish (6') and well upholstered, it handles large in my hands. I'm used to TBirds and P's and no small issues with the Coronado. But, you might want to get some specialist help with your wrist
No, but I still got carpet burns. Boom-tish!!
Robert's Brother?
Excellent... wait a minute, I recognise that carpet!!
Did you get up there?

Give Julian Mullen a call. He lives in Reading, but drives around picking stuff up and dropping it off. He's done work on my Thunderbird and PBass, is reasonably priced and has my recommendation PM'd with number

Just had comms from the Doc that the Pups have arrived, plus I'm in Newcastle, so might get round to see how it all is!
A seventies valve amp and a seventies bass, both British. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-haaahhh!! Haaahhhh!! Haaah! ...Ha. Bought them for myself - secretly - so they probably don't count as 'gifts'. I don't care. Santa rocks!
Aye, all to match your seventies dress sense!
you could just sell the customer a log for the price of a bass,
How much for your log?

Subscribed. I've got a couple of Lobes waiting to be finished. Interesting to see what is under the black crap
