3.
By all accounts the '69er is based on the Ampeg 810 sound-wise, but without the fridge-type size and mass. I've yet to hear one, but Bertbass replaced his Carvin 810 with one and he says it's the suspended spuds of a canine and then some.
I AB'd my Matamp 212 cab with Jacks 69'er at the recent bash. Very little in it. Sounded much the same, my Matamp has very heavy ferrite Celestions tho but.
 4. How old is the head? I had the same thing happen to mine. It was traced to a faulty speak on socket and a malfunctioning internal cable that goes from the jack input. Matamp had a few of these happening and changed brands. The standby is just a heater to the valves, I don't think the power section is on at all
 5.
What i've said is correct. You can come to an agreement with the retailer but that is nothing to do with the Sale of Goods and Services Act. Read my post again as it has a lot to do with the time you have physically had the goods and that's a fact.
I'm sorry, you miss understand me. My whole point is about the time you have physically had the goods. Under the SoGaSA you can have physically owned and had the goods in your possession for a great deal of time longer than any warranty or other agreement with a retailer and still get your money back, or indeed have goods replaced.
 6.
It's not that simple. You can ask for a refund but if the goods were bought months ago it is too long a time period to 'reject' them. If the goods can't be repaired you can then demand a replacement.

Already thought about that but it doesn't work. It's down to the manufacturers choice.
It's not the manufacturers choice. It comes down to the Sale of Goods and Services Act. If you know about this, and how to use it, you'd be surprised as to how much time can pass by and you'd still get a refund or replacement. Warranty says no.. but reasonable usage says yes. I've quoted this act twice in correspondence with sellers, and won both times. And one of them was for a complete new exhaust system on a Land Rover, and had I not fought, I would have just accepted what the dealer told me.
 7. I've bought basses online through GAK and returned them with no probs. Plus I've been in the shop a good few times and always find them a decent bunch.
 8. Where abouts in NE Hampshire are you? I wouldn't mind hearing this when it's all up and running?
 9. I recently had my Matamp GT200 in for repair. It was under-powered and at first they put it down to old power valves (3 years old). Matamp told me that over time power valves to degrade and lose oomph. Depends on use, but the longer and louder you go the quicker they wear out. However, they tested all the power valves and they were fine, further digging revealed a dodgy pre-amp valve (ecc83) which was replaced and power returned. So yes, older used power valves will lose watts, but then again so will other factors. I'd get it to a tec for a health check
 10.
The Tabard in Turnham Green does a Jools Night every Xmas ... three bands set up at the same time, and the music rotates between them. This year's event is on Saturday 21st December and the star attractions will be the Junkyard Dogs, appearing every third song from 8pm - Midnight. Marvel at the band's handy, pocket-sized Dave Swift-a-like. Gasp at the Flying-V-ness of the lead guitar. Hoot at the the antics of the crazy drummer. Smile for the camera of the delightful Surshal Meedja. Walk the 50 yards to the nearest tube station.
Be B'Jizzled at an amazing array of hats.
 11.
Love this guitar, ive got the dreadnought version which is awesome. A huge guitar for silly money! Have a bump
Cheers, Bud
 12.
I love this. I've always really liked a Cherry Red Gibson SG
It is indeed most beautiful.
 13. Roll Up! Roll Up! Buy this cab made by the company that no one is fighting over!
 14.
Some folk on here would cause a battle in a nunnery.
FFS! It's a bloody CONVENT!
 15.
Excellent - I also liked their (brave for a metal/rock band) Joan Baez cover, Diamonds and Rust on the accompanying vinyl EP to Unleashed in the East
Priest were the first proper band I went to see. It was 1980, I was 13, it was Newcastle City Hall on the British Steel tour. A very young Iron Maiden were supporting and for a spotty youth with dreams of Harley-Davidson freedom it was the best night ever. EVER. Still ranks as one of my all time best gigs. I'm very fond of this version Priest do justice to. There's not many can hold a candle to Halford IMHO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIC7KQPDuDc
I also happened to see them at the Apollo on the UK leg of that door and got front row seats. I touched Rob's boot. Please psycho-analyse that
You should follow a career in soft furnishings.
 16.
Ears, yes. But where does the heart come in?
I think a lot of expensive purchases are driven by the heart, or desire, or whatever you want to call it. Certainly logic, sound and practicality is a big part of the equation, but so is the un-quantifiable.
 17. Sorry, just read that pics will be up this week. Where in the world are you? What's the deal with delivery?
 18. I was one of a pair of rouges who tried to destroy Alex's new 212 at the recent SE Bass Bash, my partner in crime was 5imon. Si had some unholy 1000watt digital amp, and I had my own Matamp GT200. We blew the windows out the place, and to be honest the whole thing was all kinds of stupid. But the cab stood it's ground, and I doubt any purchaser will give this cab the kind of abuse we did on that day. So they are certainly strong. From a tonal perspective I've heard people say they are HiFi. I'd disagree and say they are transparent. The cab does not colour the sound in any way. What you hear is the bass and the amp, but you don't hear the cab (well of course you do, but you get my drift). I've always thought tweeters were too HiFi for me, and have never had them on a cab, I'm a meat and potatoes chap. But to dial one in, just to give you that 'cut' put a smile on my face. So it all made sense. It was lovely to hear my valves cooking. The bit where I fall down is they do feel so light weight, you think they'll break in your hands, and I can understand why people might equate this with a shoddy build quality. But it's an emotion rather than a control test of chucking it down some stairs. The finish is what it is, Stalinist not Restoration. But, it does the job, and you aint got to worry about the tolex getting ripped. And a nice cab with ripped tolex really does look duff. You pays a lot of money for a BF, and to have a peripheral break must be hard to bear. But BF do seem to come good in the end with fixing stuff. Anyway, the best sound I've ever had was playing through an Ampeg 810, but it's the size of a coffin, and without the pallbearers or a hearse it's practical application is somewhat limited. At least with the BF you get into the 80% region with a one hand lift and a back seat. Never know, might buy one one day. Might buy a 212 Berg, played through a lovely one with a Markbass head.. etc etc.. Let your ears and heart make the choice.
 19. I can't look at this picture. Stainless Steel. MY EYES, MY EYES!
 20. Just had comms from Steve Soar at the Thunderbucker Ranch. The Pups are built and in the post. 8 to 10 days he reckons. We'll see what with Christmas and that.
 21.
I'm proud of myself. I resisted the temptation to reply "on the floor". Oh no ... wait ...
It'll be YOU who'll be on the floor in a minute, young man! *raises hand-bag off lap in an Oscar-Wildey-Stylee*
 22. I read that the effects loop is for rack stuff, and not pedals (of course cant find the link now), for whatever reason pedals cause distortion. I'd want to EQ the clean signal. If you EQ post, then you are kind of EQ'ing a muddied tone
 23.
I like the look ( and sound, from what I have heard on YT ect) ) of the Ric 4004. I would love to have a go on one. Maybe I would find it a bit more playable that a 4001/ 4003. I just love that clanky and agressive Rickenbacker -with- roundwounds sound. Nothing else will substitute for it. It's the sonic equivalent of a woman with red hair and a nice bottom . John Hall's supposedly "difficult" attitude wouldn't put me off actually buying a new Rickenbacker bass, but it had better be made right or he will be getting it back and on the end of my own "difficult" attitude.
You see that's the funny thing. I like a woman with dark hair, but that does not put me off Rics, or indeed any other opinion. We slag JH, but only because he has been so overt in the protection of his brand. He is a very visible Captain, but only for protecting his brand. He keeps his product 100% USA made (while we all salute British made stuff). He uses (I think sustainable) American woods, and has stayed true to the Ric design and sound (love it or hate it). I've no idea who the Fender CEO is, but I wonder if He (or She) treats all the Fender workers equally worldwide, and pays them at the USA rate. I've no idea who the Gibson CEO is, but IIRC was up in court for buying endangered wood from the dwindling rain-forests? I wonder what the ratio of quality control issues are if we lined up Fender, Gibson, Ric, etc, etc? In my time I've bought 2 brand new Fenders, and 3 brand new Gibson's (1 bass, 2 guitars) and all but the Gibson SG guitar had QC issues. Was I annoyed? No, it just seemed like something you had to go through to make the think your own. Seriously, we should save the real vitriol for Gibson's 3 point bridge and illegal wood purchases. That and I've played Yamaha's that were just sh*t all round
 24.
There's plenty of people doing it properly already.
Who? Please could you define (in terms of building bass cabs) 'properly'?
