Having looked at it again I'm thinking it's not cherryburst and I still like it.
It's full title is 'Vintage Cherryburst', but whatever it is, its very nice. Thanks for the blue tack tip. It did not do it with the roundwound strings. I'm wondering if it's the string buzzing up against the inside of the ferrule. When I get home I'm going to see if some electrical tape around the base of the string as it's inside the ferrule might help.

I've discovered what the vibrating is. It's on the trapeze tail piece as the E string passes through the ferrule. If you push the tail down slightly it disappears. This did not happen with the original strings, just the La Bellas, and all are 45/105's.
I'm eliminating the competition! Hope you get the vibration sorted, by the way. That's a right pain in the arse.
You see, if it was torty it would all be red against a red background and look like a splurge. Where as my super-cool cream will enhance the cherryliciousness as a sharp counter point. The yin to the yan as it were. At the vibromiting is a bit of a knark, I just want it to magic itself away.

For the last few days my cab has had a vibration on the open E. I've been trying to get to the bottom of the rattle in the cab, but tonight I've found it is coming from the bass. If I pluck the E unplugged I can hear the vibration coming from the body, and it is transferring into the amp. Everything seems very solid. No loose screws or hardware on the outside. The pups are very stable, and the vibration does not change when they are prodded. The only thing I can think it must be is a wire inside that is rattling against something on the open E frequency, and it's the only note it happens with. I can poke a couple of wires through the f holes, but no joy. Looks like it might be going back to the shop to get this sorted.

The amp spent the today in the factory. Matamp could not really pin point the crack I could hear, and they thought the humming noise from the transformer nothing to be concerned about. They replaced the power switch and re-soldered a few bits and pieces they thought looked dry. It was only pushing 160 watts and seeing as the power valves are knocking on 3 years there was talk of replacing them. But, each power valve was tested individually and found to be OK. The drop in power was traced to a duff pre-amp valve which was replaced. The power is back up and I've been saved a new quartet of KT88's for the time being. Anyway, I'm collecting from my mates on Thursday, and hopefully that's it for the time being.
I've not seen one in the flesh, so I could be wrong; it may be something they've changed from the originals, so as to save costs. But the Fender site for the Modern Player version talks of the "distinctively curvaceous" headstock, and at least one of the photos it shows seems to clearly show the German carve that the originals used to have.
I had a look at the one in Wunjo, but I was so enamored with the Coronado my focus was else where. They're lovely tho, and do have a certain something. The lads in the shop reckon they won't be around long, and the next batch is not due till the NY.
It may be black paint, but it's on a carved-away portion of the headstock, a little like the contouring on a Firebird headstock. Google for some images from different angles and you'll see what I mean. Edit: like this one: http://img406.images...0/patental6.gif
I don't think it is you know. When I saw one the other day It was just painted on the headstock. Might be wrong tho, But I'm sure it was
That depends on who at Eminence. For the most part when you email Eminence for advice you deal with a customer service rep, who gives advice based on a drop-down menu that they have of stock answers to what amount to FAQs. These people aren't engineers. They will have a far higher degree of product expertise than a retailer, but they don't make their livings designing either transducers or enclosures. Not that there aren't engineers at Eminence, but said engineers work in the engineering department, not customer service. You will not be put in contact with them, or even know their names, unless you are an industry professional, like myself or Alex. That doesn't mean that one needs the advice of an industry professional. There are certainly many amateurs quite capable of using speaker modeling software able to give definitive advise on how a certain driver will function in a specific cabinet. That advise could include specific details of the need to high pass at a specific frequency and to limit amplifier output to a specific voltage swing to insure that the driver cannot be harmed. You won't get that from Eminence's customer service department. The closest you'll get to that is if you look at their published plans for their drivers, which do come from their engineering department. But even that information can be duplicated by anyone with modeling software, and the knowledge of how to use it.
Well, the chap's signature says technical support, so read into that what you will. BTW, this is what he had further to say on the subject... You can cut all the way to the cone, as the cone glue is a lot stronger than the gasket glue. However, it would be much safer to cut it off even with the frame, if that’s all you need to remove. Any-hoo, I stand by my belief that it's a good idea to contact the manufacturer. -
Just put an order in with the Doc for a cream 3 ply and a new bracket

Is this the other band after a trip in the time machine?
Take it to the factory, sounds likesomething is leaking dc somewhere!
I spoke to Jeff yesterday and told him about the noisy transformer. He was offering advice about how to check it, but it was already in the back of my mates car going up the M1. My pal should have it there Tuesday morning, and I should get it back later in the week as I'm up there in business. Hopefully will be resolved quickly, but once again Matamp have been extremely helpful (even on a Sunday).
I'm well aware that it can be done. My point is that it shouldn't be, there's nothing to be gained, and potentially a driver to be lost.
My point is not whether it can or can't be done, my point is that there are differences in opinion. In this case, one from a very knowledgeable chap such as yourself, and another from the manufacturer. For my money, I think the OP should be speaking to Eminence. -
You guys look sssssmmmmmmooooooottttttthhhhhh, baby
Well done. Good for you!
Thanks! I have to say they are my first set of La Bellas and I love them to bits. Regardless of where they came from, I'm wishing I'd got into them sooner.
Strings: Ernie Ball - and that's it!! great if you like them..
Not true, Simon. I was there last week, I thought they had a good range of strings. I bought a set of La Bella medium scale flats. A set that the usual internet suppliers did not have, and at a very competitive price.
I've got to admit that IMO it does look better with the pick guard on. but having played a guitar with a similar one, from a practical point it has to go. Fantastic bass BTW. Semi acoustic is the way to go!
It's not just the look why it had to go. The overall quality of the finish is very good, if not excellent, but the pg is flimsy, and does not have the 'weight' of the rest of the guitar. The bracket that attaches it to the body is thin and sharp and kind of bent funny. The bracket locates onto the guard with a bolt that points straight at the body, and probably wont take much pushing to ding into it. So, all things considered, it had to go. If I had to have a pg, I think I'd get a cream 3 ply one and have a beefier bracket made up.
Very nice. But I prefer it with the guard on.
Sir! You are entitled to your opinion. But, you are wrong! Wrong I tells ya!

Managed to get the afternoon to spend setting up properly, and also found Fenders support pages, so I pounced on them.. http://www.fender.com/en-GB/support/articles/bass-guitar-setup-guide/ I think I must have taken a good whole turn and a bit off the truss, and the way it has relaxed her up has made a huge difference. Measured up the relief and all is good, got the action to 2mm at the 12th, and no buzz anywhere. This is one creamy playing lady! I'm feeling very chuffed with myself. The intonation is spot on, so I'm lucky I've not had to get into that. Got the pups at the right height, and she just keeps getting better. I can understand why Fender necks get a bad press when they are out the box, but you have to spend a bit of time with them. I'm lucky as I have experience with mechanics and carpentry, plus loads of tools, but this must be frustrating for someone who just wants to play straight away. I also have to say Wunjo offer 2 years worth of unlimited set-ups on new purchases, along with the warranty. So if you weren't inclined to get stuck in you can keep taking it back until its right. I've got a lovely set up bass, without a tin of beeswax or 'nut cut' in sight

I can't fault the finish on my Coronado, if the Starcaster is in the same mold it will be excellent. I think they've got the same tuners. They do feel a bit thin with sharp edges, but they're OK. At least the Starcaster has not got the 'oriible pg, although they share the same knobs that I'm junking. The Starcaster has the front strap button in a sensible place on the top horn. It's tight against the neck heel on the Coro and I can't understand why they couldn't put it in the same place.
