Fender to finally make the Starcaster bass and reissue the Coronado?
Billy Apple replied to neepheid's topic in Bass Guitars
Boom! Was in Wunjo today, and tried out a candy red Coronado. And let me tell you I was very well impressed. Here's my review as it falls out my brain.. It's very solid for a semi. You can see the big block of alder thru the f holes. It has a real weight to it. I thought the finish superb for a bass in this price range. Nice deep gloss. There is a carved piece of wood between the trapeze that anchors the strings (well, it looks like wood, but might be other) and it's a nice touch. Nice binding, nice everything.. Apart from the knobs, they were a bit plastic-y. Which is funny, because I guess all knobs are plastic (well, if they're not metal), but these felt a bit soft, or maybe cheap. When you strap it on it does not feel like a short-scale. I think with the weight and 4 inline head it's almost like a grown up bass. Again a nice slim neck, very easily playable. I was up and down the neck no bother. Looked good, felt good. The tone from the pups was quite deep and easy, I thought it sounded good with the neck on its own, the bridge had that constriction that bridge pups have, but not too bad. In the end I just had everything up full and it sounded fine and dandy. It's got a right thump with low, mid and treble. And no hollow boxiness, probably down to the alder block. I've often been on the look out for a short-scale for playabilty, and I like the semi look. The Coronado delivers this with a feel of a full scale, a grown up sound and none of the flimsy boxiness of other semi's I've played. So that's that. I've got my order in for a Vintage Cherry Sunburst. All it needs is a set of flats and decent knobs. Aint life grand! -
Anyone know what bass Elvis Costello is plucking on P.56 of todays Sun? It looks very nice.

Caught out here. Every dealer I rang said mid-tober. And I'm in Londinium! -
That's easy. It's worth whatever you think it is worth. But if you are looking to sell it, please advertise it for sale in the Basschat Marketplace
I'd sell it and go for something more suitable. Having seen the build diary for that gorgeous bass, and how excited you were to get it, it seems a shame that you should have to compromise in such a way. You even have a buyer already lined up! Not a fail situation at all
Maybe it's just a stage I'm going through. I'm now thinking that it should be like a great work of art, and left alone. Dunno, maybe it's because I'm putting my flat on the market, didn't sleep too well last night.... of all the things I have to do messing on with a bass neck is the last of them. TBH, I'm playing it now and it's not that bad and it goes with the body so well. What I was thinking was when I do get moved and settled I might indeed get another neck.. and do a new build entirely! I've got an idea to go completely in the opposite direction from the La Cab, and do one with loads of bling! Consider my re-profiling not proceeding, but if anyone has had it done, do tell?

I never liked Motley Crue at the time. They were far to posey and American for me. It was Motorhead or nowt in my bedroom. I liked Saxon, but they'd long dropped off my radar when they brought out Break Like The Wind. Anyway, the embroidery on the back of my denim jacket read.. Iron Maiden Motorhead AC/DC Judas Priest. But funnily enough after reading 'The Dirt' I listened to a bit of Crue stuff and they do have a few decent tracks. I think Kick-start My Heart is my favorite. But what I really like about them is how they are a band that is greater than the sum of it's parts. Individually they are all f**ck-ups, but as a band they worked and made a few bob while they were on. My favorite Crue member is Mick Mars, who in-spite of his spine fusing into one, and his hip disintegrating still manages to rock. And is also very funny in his hyper-dry way,
Some times you need to know when to walk away. Trying to "salvage" what many others would consider to be a beautiful neck could be the edge of a slippery slope, with a money pit at the bottom. Sell the neck un-salvaged and buy the neck you actually want. My tupp'orth ,,,
It's a fair comment, and one that has gone through my mind as the best option. But maybe what I need to do is learn to love the profile.
I would only advise doing it if you know what you're doing. Otherwise go to a GOOD luthier.
No, I'm not considering doing it myself

Some of you may have seen my 'Ruttmoth' Cabronita P build on the forum.. And some of you may have seen it attempting to destroy Alex Clabbers' cabs at the recent Bash. I love this bass. All apart from one thing.. The profile of the neck. I have to admit, I'd not tried any Warmoth necks before, so I bought blind, so to speak. If only I'd ticked the box marked 'slim profile'! The profile is how should I say full, deep and rounded. It is quite a handful. I've thought about just living with it, I've also thought about moving it on and getting another neck, but in someway this feels like a fail to me. So now the thought is to get it re-profiled. The neck is absolutely first class though. Quarter sawn, graphite stiffeners, graphite nut and a vintage satin nitro finish that really develops when playing. No matter the change in humidity or temperature or strings, it does not budge an inch. And the finger board is a grand slab of maple Anybody know if this is possible, or had this done, or recommend anyone to do it? My worries are that the neck would get ruined, the finish would not match up, the truss rod would break out the back and it would lose it's stability. Any thoughts please?

I'm just posting for comic effect, that and me being a right chancer. Flog it to someone who wants it and recover your outlay. But you might want to consider a split with the Bass Bash charadee, then everyone's a winner!
I'm keeping everything until I know I have a bass worthy of Doreen's music and memory, then I'll sell the neck and tuners to cover some of the cost. Feel a bit weird doing that, as if it's not in the spirit of the Bash raffle prize and the kindness of Throwoff and Fender UK, but the bass is still essentially a tricked up Squier Jag, that's what people will be hearing, so I don't feel too bad mate.
Well, listen if you get pangs of moral what-not with the left over bits, you are welcome to give them to me in a 'liberal, non-judgmental, community, were all in this together' type way. £7.5k for Bruce Foxton's Wal anyone?
Billy Apple replied to rubis's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I'd say not. If you wanted a Wal, you'd get it cheaper elsewhere. If you were a BF fan I'd think you'd want a bass more reflective of him. -
It has jack and speaking out or do you mean the 450 watts at 4ohms?! The higher the ohms the less the output
I'm meaning my Matamp has an output for 4ohm and an output for 8ohm. I think the OTB has a switch for different speaker ohmage. Where as this just has a socket, so I was wondering if the head has some kind of magic where it just knows the ohmage of the cab? -
