1. I think the Coronado looks lovely in SB, but I always find SS basses to sound boxey. I tried a few Gretsch semis the other day and they were very divey, lets hope this is better. Anyone have a UK price?
2. I played a 4001 thru Mark Bass and Bergantino and the sound was awesome.
3. Hiram, where can you get a new one for less than £1200?
4. I played through an Ampeg PF500 and it sounded great. Is this the same with a bit less watts?
5.
Erm... yes I'm fairly sure! Is that not right? It was fitted by the previous owner and I'm sure that is what he said it was. I'm fairly sure that I have the box for the fitted pup as the original is stored in it, it'll take a bit of digging through boxes (house move and some stuff still not unpacked yet) to check. Is there a problem with it if it is a HS, or is it the silly name you are commenting on?
Purely the Hot Slags name for comic effect. I did goole them though and find some sound clips. Those Slags are rockin'
6. I've been getting a few PM's asking to see the pics I took earlier. The lettering on the pots would seem to confirm this is a '62, as does the serial number on the neck plate. The ally gasket seems to have a sig scratched in, but it's hard to make out the name. And thanks for the PM's supporting the neck date, in-spite of the lack of heel date. Any-Hoo, pictures... I'm still waiting to hear back from a chap about authentication. I'm also still in the process of making my mind up, but thank you for all the offers. So my apologies and please bear with me.
7. Thanks for all the PM's. I'll try to reply to them, but at the moment I'm just going to bed as I'm on night shift all weekend. But to answer as many questions in one go.. The finish is Poly. There is no date stamp on the neck heel. It had been removed before it came into my possession. The bass was dated at Chris and Andys by the number on the neck-plate, the pots and wiring, the aluminium gasket under the scratch plate, the slab finger board and clay dots, the original colour in the pup rout, and the two dots on the back of the body where the dowels had been put in to hold while it was being painted. All the hardware is original (AFAIK). Overwater had the knobs re-chromed. The finger-pull was put on by Overwater, It never had one when I got it. The neck looks fine to me. I'll try to measure the relief, but the action is 2mm on the 12th fret. All the notes play all the way up the neck, but the A string has a buzz on the last couple of frets (not that I ever get that far, but I'm sure a fret dress would sort it). I have spent the morning photographing the pups, pots and gasket. I'm going to ask a member here to help me with the dating from the pots, there is also a feint signature on the gasket that might help. So please consider this sale on hold until I gather some further information. Also I'm wrestling with whether I'm going to go through with the sale because she sounds so awesome.
8.
Acquired this tonight before my gig tomorrow.
Raising the bar, and setting the standard. Congratulations
9.
I thought what she actually said was "It's a mystewy" I like single cut basses for the most part. But then I also like trains and walking up hills.
What she actually said was "Iths ah Mysterhrerrree" Don't you ever read the sleeve notes?
10. Here is my lovely Takamine EN20 electro-acoustic. I bought this new sometime around '96 and has only very light wear, the top has a small worn mark where my pinkie has rested by the skinny E. Cedar top with mahogany body and neck, a 3 band Eq with volume, battery check and an 'exciter'. I think the exciter is a presence boost type thing. Anyway, it sounds awesome acoustically and immense when plugged in. This guitar is a favorite of Pete Townsend's to play live. It's a big guitar with a big sound. Comes with OHSC plus keys, polishing cloth and a blank warranty registration if you fancy filling it out and trying it on! Oh, and a pretty new set of bronze strings. I'm asking [s]£475ono[/s] £400, and sorry no trades. Not willing to post. I live in Windsor and will try to meet half way. 11.
No trades... no even for my ACG Finn? Tis for sale not too far from this thread... any temptation at all?
Sorry, I'm just after the readies, even-though those AGG's are lovely
12. Here is my virtually un-played Gibson SG Standard in cherry red. I bought this new in '99. Very good condition apart from a small ding on its bottom. Never gigged, just used by me in my bedroom to bang out AC/DC riffs. Very low action, very nice colour. A beautiful guitar. Comes with a quality part leather Levys gig bag. Currently strung with EBSS 10's (I think) I'm asking [s]£625[/s] £600 for this, and no trades thanks. Not willing to post, but willing to meet halfway. I live in Windsor. My feedback http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2063770
13. SOLD! is my beautiful 2011 Gibson Thunderbird. I bought this new 2 years ago and had it professionally set up by Julian Mullan. He put on the Hipshot Super Tone and made it effortless to play all the way to the dusty end. Comes with the original bridge if you're daft enough to want to put it on. There is one tiny ding on the upper bout, apart from that it is spotless, and the case is unmarked. Sounds absolutely beautiful. When I took it over to our own Jake Newman to learn how to play it, he said 'now that's what a bass should sound like'. Currently slung with near new D'Addario 45/105 nickel rounds. I live in Windsor, will not post, but willing to meet half way. 14. 1962 Fender Precision Re-Fin in Fiesta Red I'm thinning the heard, and much as I love this bass It never gets played anymore so I moving it on. Been in my possession since I was 16, so that's 30 years, the third bass I had, and my only bass until around 5 years ago. When it came into my possession it was plain wood with the head-stock painted black. I took it to Chris and Andys on High Bridge in Newcastle and they took it apart and confirmed it was a '62 and originally in fiesta red. I kept it the same until around 10 years ago when my Dad took it to Chris May at Overwater who refinished it in fiesta red. Around the time of the re-fin my Dad contacted the chap I'd got it off and he still had the original ash-trays in a drawer, so they are included too. Has been set up by Graham Noden, and he changed the jack socket as the old one fell apart No trades thanks My feedback http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2063770
15. Is it the bass looks dorky, or you look like a dork playing it?
16.
I suggest you try Tena Lady.
You can get them that cheap? It's at least £20, even round Canning Town
17.
The routine maintenance on an amp being...?
You don't have a valve amp then?
18. I wouldn't mind a look out of curiosity
19.
Phew! Thanks to this thread I have now deleted my order for two BF cabs. I feel soo relieved, and am very happy Alex was willing to delete that particular order, and send me two BF strippers instead. Thanks, guys! Wait!
BA'rsed Strippers, surely?
20. The trouble with the Fingers is they got fat and slower. Where as GD get faster and thinner. But you are right that Green Day were born from all that. Alternative Ulster|American Idiot
21. I had a MIM sunburst one. Monster sound, but monster weight. That resulted in me moving it on, which was a shame because I think they look great. Mind you, mine had some build issues, the bridge was not screwed down fully, one of the screws in the control plate mainly located into air and the scratch plate was badly finished around the controls. are these MIM? I think the white /maple looks cool. Wonder if they've improved the weight ?
