1. If you have loosened the rod off and it has moved, you may find over time it will settle back further. Try a set of heavier strings, Rotosound are very tension-y. Just goes to show what happens if you take the strings off without loosening off the truss rod.
2. Wunjo in Denmark St, Londinium gets my vote. Lots of stock, very friendly and good prices.. even for central London.
3. I'd thought about getting a black one made up. It's on a long list of things to do
4. What was up with it in the first place for you to want to sell?
5.
£870 cabs that fall apart after a year. Manufacturer offers to sell users a remedy. What a joke.
There is something really greatly-stupid about Barefaced cabs. Just how stupidly light they are, and how great they sound.
6.
I hated both the Thunderbird Pros that I've tried. Apart from the body shape they didn't have any of the feel or sound that I would associate with a classic Gibson Thuderbird from the 60s. Essentially it's just a very ordinary MiK active bass with an over-inflated price tag due to the name. and body shape. I think you need to ask yourself what it is about the Thunderbird that appeals to you. If it's the sound of all those classic rock records from the 70s then probably nothing but an original (not a modern one) Gibson will do. You could get whichever of the modern versions feels best and put one of the good aftermarket 60s-style pickups in it, but you'll probably end up paying more the pickups than you paid for the bass. If you just like the shape, then there are plenty of other options to look at like the Spector Rex, models from various Japanese manufacturers and there's someone in the US making B-O neck Fenderbirds all of which would be worth your consideration.
I'll tell you what BRX. I know you often mention the fact that the modern TBird ain't got the old school pick-ups and that, but don't knock it too much. I've got one, and in its defense all I can say is when I took it round to Jake Newman's house he said 'Now That's What A bass Should Sound Like'. And I happen to think it sounds pretty good in all. The smell while opening the case is worth the money on its own!
7. Epiphone Thunderbird Classic... http://www.gak.co.uk/en/epiphone-thunderbird-classic-iv-usa-pickups-alpine-white/57334
8. I think the best looking bridge is the original two part one, and it would solve all this.
9. I got my supertone from the States and it arrived on my doorstep. Sometimes parcels are waved through. I was not so lucky with some Gotoh tuners though.
10. My hunt still goes on, and I'm still interested in a loan if anyone has one spare. Out of the two I've played I'd say they were both good. The vintage (79) 4001 at Bass Gear and a brand-spanker 4003 in Wunjo. The neck on the 4001 was flawless, I might have entered into discussions, but it was Maple-glow and that is my least favourite. The 4003 needed a set-up but was basically good, and looked great in Fire-Glow. I played both thru Mark Bass and they sounded ace, but what I really want to do is to try one thru my Matamp.
11.
Indeed
How long have you been playing 6 strings?
12. Hey, the guy's got a Gene Simmons surf board, so I'm in!
13.
I have a terrible problem with bridge placement on mine.
If you raised it, it would be fine
14.
I mean no offense Kiwi. I am just sort of amazed at the comments as I only asked for thoughts and never pushed the product. And most of the things posted were not enthusiastically positive, so I also don't understand why it appears to be a pitch to you. It's not like I have been singing amazing praise. And I have pointed out that it is my opinion and good for me. I also find it somewhat offending that I have been playing professionally since you were 7 years old but the mere fact I have a connection to an amp can only mean I have no credibility. If I follow your logic correctly, since I have some very close relationships with some legendary builders then any post I make regarding their equipment has no credibility. So am I understanding that correctly? If that is the case then only people who have never had any form of endorsement would count. I unofficially endorse a lot of my associates products. For no compensation. Because I know them and often get to use or try their products. In this forum I might choose to comment on say an Ampeg amp. Does my very close relationship with Dennis Kager or my friendship with the late Jess Oliver therefore taint my opinion of a product? Does it therefore lose credibility? Or does it add a measure of credibility when discussing those products? Posters are free to take my posts and add to that any interpretation they want. And they know my associations. I surmise there are many, many who post in Basschat forums who have similar or closer associations and have never made them as clear as mine. With that, feel free to close this thread, and if I wish to post an original thread about any amp product I have an association with I will reach out to you first.
Grief! Tom, you just don't get it, people here have tried to be subtle so I'll spell it out the best as I can. All you go on about is all the people who you know, but in a kind of 'don't you know who I am' kind of way. No one here is bothered, it just cuts no ice. Go ask Guy Pratt, and I like Guy Pratt! He was given short shrift by members here, and you couldn't string his bass. All you go on about is gear that you are endorsing, and in turn that you are trying to sell, all-be-it for a third party. Folk here write reviews about stuff they have bought out of their own pocket, so have earned that right to bang on about it. And gear here gets bought and sold on that strength. I love the Aguilar Octamizer, but I bought it, Aguilar don't give me gear. Take time to read what members here say about Matamp, and Matamp have no endorsee's, but I rave about their gear, and for no compensation. If you are selling, then sell, and take it to the Affiliates section and no-one here will give you grief. But don't give us this snake oil that you are not selling/trying to sell/connected with manufacturers BS because they'll coat you off, as you've been getting coated-off through this thread. The Brits do not like the hard sell. It's very unattractive to us. Why don't you let people get to know you, before you bang on about who you know and how long you've been at it? Don't patronise established members, because they've earned their stripes here, and with respect Tom, you aint. I hope this is making sense to you and I hope you can cut the salesman crap and just be yourself.
15. Economic climate Bert. It took ages for my Matamp 212 to go, but it did in the end. Hang in there! A lovely amp at a great price!
16. Let me give you some advice Tom, FWIW. It just feels like you are coming on with a strong sales pitch to sell gear. If you want to hawk stuff, then post on the Affiliates forum and no one will give you grief. I know you say you are not selling stuff, but the way this sounds to English ears you most defiantly are. If you are indeed the person you say you are then get involved with some advice, input and tales from the road, but leave the salesman at the door. Best Wishes
17.
Classic combination. And you should have 4 Extra as button number 3 . And then 6 Music. And then Radio 2 but only for Brian Mathew's Sounds of the Sixties and Claire Teale's Big Band programne. :-)
I would, but I never get past the two buttons
18. Planet Rock is on Button 1 on my radio. And Radio 4 is on number 2! I ROCK!
19. If you are promoting gear, then shouldn't this be posted in Affiliates?
