1. I know nothing about TC, but that tone print thing just seems to have the potential to go the way of V2000 or Betamax. I own a Peavey Stereo Twin 400 chorus Combo (yes a guitard amp), I've had the thing for 17 years and it was old when I got it. Decent twin channel amp with dirty channel, spring re-verb and chorus. f*** loud and seems to thrive on being dropped down staircases. Stored in the shed outside an still breaking neighbours windows with the Les Paul. I wonder if the TC could be so nasty?
2. I once got my girlfriend in a band I was in. It was all my idea. It destroyed what should have been a great outfit. I should have listened to the drummer. Turned out my GF at the time was a really nasty piece of work (and still is, by all accounts). But I was blind because she had great bangers. Such is life, but never again. BTW, the drummer who was so wise at the time turned into a heroin addict, and got involved with another ex of mine. He was a proper gent who beat the sh*t out of her and stole her money. Such is life
3. I bought Ted's Maxon PT999 Phaser. Exactly as described, totally mint condition and all as it should be. As Craig David said 'We chatted on Thursday, I paid on Friday, it turned up on Saturday, and on Sunday I'm going to spend all day fiddling with it, save going to the lavatory' Nay problems with Ted at Castle Apple, deal with confidence and all that
4. How much for the tatty old box? I'm not fussy
5. I'll stand up for the Carlsboro 150 stingray combo. Yes, the filter buttons are daft, but if you half press one of the buttons, they all pop out and it's not too terrible. I got one when I was 16 and for a lad of that age it was blimming marvelous, loud as f*ck, and bomb proof. I've lost count the number of times it's been dropped, bounced, surfed on and fired head-long down flights of stairs. And never once did it break down. I'm 46 now and i've still got the thing. It got lost in my dads shed, but I've brought it out of retirement to use while my holyier than holy Matamp GT200 is at the menders. I stick the DHA in front of it and it's not half bad. BTW, I bought it second hand, so 30+ never letting me down service is pretty good in my book.
6. Thanks. Very informative
7. Erm, Jack your body. That and bump your grinder
8.
Never mind this sillyness or the original topic, let's get to the important stuff. WHAT is that bass in your avatar discreet, nut width and weight as well please
Yes. And who's the knacker playing it? He looks familiar, is it Scrofulous Hedgehog's bassist?
9.
None of it is mahogany. Alder body, maple neck, ebony fingerboard.
Epic fail. I know nowt about Rippers or Grabbers. TBirds only
10.
And to be perfectly frank, that isn't helped by mixed signals from the mod team.
This can be the case. If a mod gets involved in the debate then takes the huff and locks up, it a bit like, well it's my ball and I'm taking it home. But the mods come from the members, and it would be a bit rough if all a mod could do is act as an editor. Over-all it's like a bell curve, fat and juicy in the middle with some questionable stuff at the edges.
occasionally with a citation of the "try and avoid religion, politics, and anything sexist please" "rule".
It always makes me laugh when I read this caveat. I mean, WTF else are you really going to talk about in Off Topic? Just about everything else in life is covered in the rest of the forum.
11.

You are, and forever will be my brother
12. BC is great. I've met new friends, found out about gear, found out about where to get my amp serviced. I've got a (relatively) new job, so not been around here as much as I was, plus I've missed a few socials too which has been a bit of a bummer. I've not noticed all the aggro, plus the whole membership/seller fee thing has been in discussion for a while, so I don't know why people would get upset about it. But then again I have a history of missing the blindingly obvious. I totally missed the VoodooWazoo threads. Perhaps someone can PM me the links, so's I'm not so un-hip? BC is the product of its members and the dynamic is set by them. If you meddle with it, then you meddle with the dynamic, a bit like muting a nice ringing sustain right on the bounce of your valves. Let things ride and you never know what will shine through. I think the mods do a great job, but they can only do what they can do. I don't always agree, I thought Hamster locked the Scally/Police topic early, but really, meh. It is what it is, as they say. My biggest gripe about BC is I post daft stuff that I think is dead funny, and not one person ever quotes the post and laughs. And for that reason alone I'm cancelling my as yet unpaid subscription because all you lot is a shower of b@stards. Lots of love, Fred Fenackerpan
13. Can anybody explain to me the difference between Phaser, Flange and Chorus? Cheers
14. Will you put in original pups? Could this take something like the Thunderbuckers?
15.
This project is really an exercise in totally overbuilding everything. The heater wiring for the power valves will carry just shy of 10A, so everything needs to be able to handle that. This is a trial run of the heater wiring. (The single strand wire will be replaced in the final implementation with PTFE coated multi strand.) Ive tried using some super chunky heat shrink to keep the wires together, however whilst shirnking it down, I melted both the wire and the cigarette lighter. Rethink needed!
Would a hot-air paintstripper gun not do you better for the shrinking?
16. The pickguard is a big divider on this bass. I can accept it looks a bit like a waiters bow tie, but it also gives a counterpoint to a large expance of wood. I had the guard fitted to my custom build, but when it arrived I took it off and said 'yes'. The black with the chrome looks CAF, but then again, I put it back on and it still looks great, but I'm also getting a guard made up in black. Pretty much all Fender basses have guards fitted, so maybe they have the fear about selling a nude one. You should check the Dusty Hill CS to see this (similarish) bass with no clothes on.
