1. I like the old school tone from my TBird, but I've heard one played thru one of these... And it gave clean and punch like nobodies business. Just might be what you are looking for
2.
What killed me about that video was that I didn't understand why he didn't swing the bass so that the string side went into the stage first. Surely that would have got the neck joint to break with one swing?
Clearly this guy is no engineer.
3. I've spent my afternoon pulling my old Carlsboro 150w Stingray Combo out of the shed and cleaning it up. I got it when I was 16 and I can't believe I've had the thing for 30 years. Never let me down either. After clearing away the odd wasp and spider nest, and repairing a cracked fuse holder (£1.49 for a new one from Maplins ) she fired up first time, and everything seems to be in order. Some of the pots were a bit crackly, but that seemed to pass. She really only does one sound, but its not bad. Has a strange 5 button band by-pass filter that I ignore, along with a depth button, but we started getting there using my DHA VT1 Eq But, all in all, a solidly built piece of kit that I can use for practise or chucking around, apart from one thing.. The speaker cone has a tear from the edge to half way in. So I'm thinking about replacing it with a light-weight neo driver, making the whole thing more manageable. I took the driver out and it's a 150w Carlsboro Powertone 15C 4Ohm. My question is, do I have to replace it with a 4Ohm driver? I only ask because most of the 15" neo drivers I have seen are 8ohm. On the back of it are the following- 2 jack outputs that say 'Output 4-16 Ohms' (I have never plugged in additional cabs), a pre-amp jack output and two slave jack outputs. It also says 'max power achieved when total speaker impedance equals 4 ohms'. This combo owes me nothing, so I don't mind spending a bit on a new driver, and if the whole thing packs up, I might take the driver and use it to build a BF cab.
4. He was worn out after the third swing, and I think he only bust the body along the line of the two-piece join. I can't believe the neck join didn't give up, you'd think that would be a weak spot. Mind you, that guy seems like a bit of a drink of water and the P had him beat.
5.
I wasn't available to do the deal so I sent the Mrs out on a long train journey to do the deal. Guy turns up and basically lays into the bass and says it's not as described even though I provided over 30 photos of the bass and an in-depth description. He took advantage of my Mrs ignorance over the actual advert and refused a trade.
You should have never sent your wife to do the trade. If you weren't available yourself, you should have re-arranged. As you say, she does not know about the goods, and you don't know who you are sending her to meet.
6. Is this figure all the stringed instruments Gibson produces? Where did you get the figure?
7. Oh, by the way, I wouldn't leave negative feedback for tyre-kickers and I'llbebbacks, as they're only part of the process. The feedback should be for the end purchaser/seller, and then I'd try to resolve any issue before posting on the forum. I was selling an item and a feller asked loads of questions, and mithered about the price, for about two weeks as I remember. Then someone jumped in and bought straight away, and it's him I left the feedback for. Must say I've had good sales and purchasing experience on BC
8.
'Wee Eck' Buttox III? The grandson[sup]44[/sup] of Alex 'Wee Eck' Salmond? Eck Buttox III - Hereditary President of New Caledonia in the faraway Oglux system.
Humans look different in the future, as the evolution process is on going. Those are actually his feet. Regrettably we've not been able to evolve out of wearing stupid safety glasses when they are not needed.
9.
OK, I'm back. It was terrible. in the 'other' continuum Hitler had won WW2, David Icke was fighting alien lizards from a bunker in Llandudno and there was no internet. So no-one would have been selling basses on BC anyway. So, is Nick Clegg still Prime Minister?
No, it's Eck Buttox III and the year is 3026
10. I'm watching it on the IPlayer now. I think they sound ace, and I'm loving the funky guitars, they look great.
11.
Now time for two dumbass questions. If you change the neck on this to one from one of the other Telecaster basses (a) would it make the scale longer ( would you still be able to play notes on it, or would the frets now be in the wrong places?
I think you would be able to change it for a square heel Tele-Bass neck. Not 100% sure as to the science of the fret/scale length and that, but I think the longer bit would make her very neck heavy.
12. Loved them. A great original sound

14. Didn't they have copyright trouble with the non-reverse, and was not why they reversed it to the reverse shape? How will this sit now?
15. Before I bought my Gibson T Bird I did extensive and in depth research, as in I played the lot of them. IMHO The Gibson wins hands down. The truth is they are all very different guitars and not really comparable, regardless of price. I bought a 2011 model brand new, swapped the Gibson bridge for a Hipshot and got a pro set-up that involved some fret levelling up the dusty end. I know nothing about the sound of the chrome pup originals, but mine sounds ace, very grand, especially when you figure the volume settings, 10 on the front, 8 on the back for me
16. Please send my best to Shev and hope you tear the place down!
17. Very sorry, work have just sprung a shift in Oxford tomorrow, so not going to be able to make this. I hope you all have a great time.
18. OK Folks, very happy today because the correct tuners arrived. ALS were true to their word, they PP'd me the money for the postage to return the wrong ones and must have despatched the right ones very quickly. So now I'm the proud owner of a set of Gotoh GBR640 Vintage Reverse Wind Resolite Tuners.... Ta Da!.... The eagle-eyed will spot I've already reversed the pegs for my reversed head. Gotoh say these are only available as a right hand neck option and they can't be changed. Some people said they could, so I felt I took a chance buying them. As you can see the good news is they do change over. It's a bit of a fiddle, I just went slowly and carefully. These bad-boys are super light, smooth action, look great and very well made. They blow the ones on the Fender into a cocked hat!
