2.
Alright then, invade Morecambe!
Not wise
 3.
BC London Meetup Saturday 26 May, from 12 pm IF the weather is dodgy, we'll meet up at More London Riverside IF the weather is fine for a picnic, we'll go to Regent's Park (we'll decide the exact location in due course).
Great. I shall be there
If the meetup is successful, I would be happy to organise something similar regularly in the future, for instance once a month, so that those who have to miss this one will be able to attend the next.
I'm not sure if that is a little optimistic that we'd all turn out so often, but I think there is definate space for an annual London Summer do. Then we could have a Christmas Punch-Up, and not forgetting meeting at various gigs and shows, I think we'd be pretty well covered socially. Did you start a new thread? Here's the title... Ladies and Gents, The 1st Annual London Basschat Picnic.
 4. Very neat and tidy! Have you posted up a review anywhere, if not please give us your thoughts? Looks like a great bit of kit.
 5.
Dear Bluejay, May I proffer some advice... ? Remember that 1. you're dealing mostly with getting men to agree to turn up someplace in the future 2. these men are of the musician-type persuasion.. So my suggestion would be to find somewhere close to you, announce the location and the date and see who turns up. This will bear little or no relation to the number that said they will . You can't please all of the people all of the time...
Aye, that's pretty good advice, I reckon. Pull something out a hat, and tell us all where and when, and I'll pitch up.
 6. I'll tell you where is really nice for a picnic.. Greenwich. The park is lovely, and if the sun is on our side, we could go up by the Observatory and have a view over the whole of the smoke. If the weather is not on our side there are pubs, a great little noodle house, or even a venture to the also lovely Blackheath village
 7. If it's going to be afternoon, how about A BC'ers picnic. A four-pack of Spesh and a bag of pork-scratchings! Primrose Hill side of Regents Park, and nice pubs near-by if there's any rain?
 8. If we're thinking about a pub in central London that is fair to all for access, how about The Montague Pike on the Charing Cross Road? In a former life it was The Marquee. It's a Lloyds Bar (Weatherspoons) so reasonably priced food and drink for Londinium. Not much arty going on there, and no music, but it's a popular place, big enough and sells booze
 9.
Nice post.
Thank you
 10. Good idea. I'm in. Maybe not even a musical-do. I think at the LBGS there were too many other things to side-track us. A pub somewhere that sells ale would be a good start
 11.
I think where I went wrong was wearing my Wham - Wake Me Up Before You Go Go T-shirt I just thought being a big band from the 80's they would get it and we could get down on it together I even ironed it and washed it with Daz
Well, it seems Daz is a poor detergent, but where you went wrong was ironing it
 12.
Good grief are they still going ? I remember my Grandad telling me about when they were touted as the next big thing way back in 1926 or whenever it was. Didnt the country go on strike over them or something ? Oh and John Logie Baird invented something, just so that people could see as well as hear them on his new radio vision device. see the worlds first ever broadcasted pic, a little known fact is that this was a picture of New Model army singer Justin Sullivan from the summer of 1926 at the Ally Pally
It's disappointing that you put up a post like this, Daz. If you took the time to read through the whole thread you will see that a good many BC'ers took up the challenge for this gig, investing their talent, time and money. But, I guess you are trying to be funny. If you looked at NMA's web-site you will see that they auditioned 20 people from 80 applicants, and (I believe) 5 of those applicants were from the BC family. That's a 25% representation, and one which I think we should all be very proud. I had a quick look at your profile, and all of your own influences pre-date NMA by a long chalk... My bass influences are JJ burnell (Stranglers), Youth (Killing Joke), Steve Garvey and Steve Diggle(Buzzcocks), Charlie Casey(Menace) Geezer Butler(Black Sabbath) Peter Hook (Joy Division) and last but certainly not least a huge influence has been, and still is, the great Jah Wobble So, if the Stranglers or the PIL came knocking, would you shoo them away for a crack at 'Bring me the Horizon', what with you being so young and vital in your mid 40's? I'm not so sure whether Justin Sullivan was around in 1926, by my reckoning he is 55 years old, although when I shook his hand and knocked out a few tunes with him a couple of weeks ago, he had an energy and immediateness that would give many 20 year old's a run for their money, in spite of 3 decades in the business, with god knows how many album sales, a loyal fan-base and never losing artistic integrity. You never know Daz, with a band like New Model Army, maybe ther best is yet to come. After all there is some old codger called Bruce Springsteen who's latest album is tipped to do very well in the hit parade, so perhaps there is hope for us all.
 13. Well, it seems like the show's over on this thread, but I do have some questions to the other guys who travelled to Bradford to try out. Namely this.. Apart from playing (obviously), what else did you in the studio? I'm asking only because if I had the chance again I think I would do a lot of things differently, and maybe this will be some use to others who might get a try-out with a name band. I don't think there is a book in the library covering this kind of stuff. So tell us what you did, and what on reflection you might alter?
 14. He was the bloke who went in before me. I heard him play Nothing Dies Easy. His sound was pretty good, and I kept the settings on the SVT the same. Interesting he is from Essex, Nelsons home territory, I wonder if he had any coaching? Congratulations and best of luck to him
 15. Is there some kind of doodle on the fascia of the head?
 16. I think the trouble with the audition process is you put a lot of your time and yourself into it, and more often than not it does not bear fruit, and you end up feeling short-changed. If you are one person going for a band, then they are more important to you than the one band who have many people trying out, and I think this is why bands might not get back to you, but at least with the second one, they did let you know. But, I can understand how you feel you have had your time wasted. I think there a a number of things you can do. Stop auditioning all together. Audition so much, that it just does not matter whether they call or not. Form your own band, put yourself in charge and be the one doing the auditioning. Don't forget, and audition is a two way street, you want to be the best you can be, but you want them to be the best too. With these two examples, you've kinda had your question answered. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
 17. It's debatable if the gesture is symbolic for the devil. In an interview from 'Metal, a Head-Bangers Journey', RJD claims providence for using it first. He says it something called the 'Malchai' (IIRCC), which he learnt from his Grand-Mother. It's primary purpose is to ward off evil spirits, ensuring the protection of the user and is not a symbol for Devil worship. However it depends on your point of view of what the Devil, and his role in the greater scheme of things is. In pre-Christian Pagan worship the Old Horned God, The Green Man, or The Man of the Woods was an antler wearing half man, half beast and was the consort to the Earth Goddess and not a symbol of evil, but one of fertility and hunting. The Christian faith (allegedly, not by me) turned the Old Horned God into the Devil to ward folk away from old pagan faiths towards Christianity. Do you have an Morris-Men in your area? There will usually be one of them running around wearing antlers, and the whole Morris Dancing thing is steeped in Pagan fertility symbolism. Anyway, others have laid claim to using it on the rock stage first. Alice Cooper and Gene Simmons (predictably enough) being the other two that spring to mind. But, it has become the universal gesture for all things rock.
 18.
A Stetson in the first instance and a Trilby in the second. Imagine being able to afford two hats! Rock stars, eh?
Maybe he needed all the hats, as in-spite of all his money, he could never get a decent hair-cut
 19.
Someone will tell me who it is I don't like. He's even worse than that first sentence. I know they've got to "have something about them", but not like that............ He fronts quite a biggish name band; they come from Leeds; wears shiny suits that are too tight as are the necks of his shirt collar; arrogant enough to demand applause and cheering before they've played a note; appeared on the McCartney gig at Anfield football ground a year or so ago. Balcro.
Bloke out the Kaiser Chiefs?
 20. It appears there were two hats, a pair of trousers, and some assorted knick-knacks... http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2005/jun/29/artsnews.ireland http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/79141/Bonos-1k-jet-bill-for-hat.html Proper man of the people, our Bonio. At least Adam Clayton did the right thing with his Vintage Sig Bass, ...erm, I think
 21. I've edited myself, children might be reading (as opposed to writing) this
 22.
'Scunthorpe' is cool! So I can say, 'Oli Sykes is a total Scunthorpe'...
What if you right it like this.. s****horpe. Is that allowed? edit: took out naughty word, just being childish. It has to stop
 23. Hey, gang, he's got his own blog.. http://theadventuresofoliversykes.com/ So now you can keep up his crazy life, celeb name-dropping, sh*tey-shouty vocals and lippy-pouty pictures. I wish I was 16 again, I'd be off to Camden right now. Mind you, I'm not sure if he gets my vote for most annoying front man. All of them by definition have to have a bit of an ego, and why not? This guy seems to be a bit of a dick, but he seems to be doing well out of it and having a bit of fun in the process, so good luck to him. Also I quite like Morrisey and Liam Gallagher. They've done some good stuff over the years, and as said elsewhere on this thread, Liam is not without a sense of humour. Even Bonio from The U2 has his moments, and is not without pomposity. Didn't he sue a lowly wardrobe lady over a feckin' hat? I mean, what a knob, but at least he puts on a good show. But, after long and studious thought my vote for the most annoying front-man goes to Courtney Love. The reasons are many and manifold. But, to sum up, she seems like a f***ing horrible person to me.
 24.
...I think you're allowed to say 'cock'.
Did you notice I typed 'Sw***y gear', as in posh, but the text auto-edited, as it must have thought I was meaning w***ers. Lets see if it does it again?
 25.
Oli Sykes, from Bring Me The Horizon. Please don't punish yourself by digging any further!
Oh, sorry, I did. Came across this..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Z99te-NCXs&feature=related I thought It started ok, the band seem good in their own way. All until the singer opens his gob and draws a c*ck over the whole thing. Bizzare they didnt boot him out after the first rehearsal. Maybe he's from a wealthy family, and bought all the sw***y gear. And those tattoo's aint cheap
