2.
What is there to force a back bow? The truss rod under compression in the neck, that's what. Without the strings the wood is simply relaxed into it's natural position. It's not in it natural position, as the truss rod is pushing it outward at both ends, when the internal pressure from the rod is removed, then the neck is relaxed in it's natural position That's not to say it can't happen (caused say by humidity etc) but 99% of the time it won't. As for counting the turns - every set up, height adjustment or new set of string etc requires a different t/r setting, slackening it off then putting it back to where it was will only give you a ballpark setting and even then it might be way off. Well, yes, but you wouldn't want to re-string a bass with no counteracting force on the truss rod
Two separate pro luthiers told me to do this when I removed the neck from my P Bass, as it was set aside for about a month. The truss rod is in compression, with the strings in tension, produce the relief on the neck. If the tension is removed there is only one force acting on the neck. As for counting the turns, when I did this it was bang on first time when I put the neck on a new body, but yes, of course it might need further adjustment. Anyway, doing this worked perfectly for me and I was glad of the advice. So, sorry Bud, I just don't agree with you
 3. The truss-rod provides an opposing tension to prevent the tension on the strings pulling the neck forward (forward bow). If you remove the strings, over time the neck will have nothing to pull against and develop a back bow. Loosen off the nut, counting the turns anti clock-wise just until the nut turns freely. When putting the neck back on, turn the nut clock-wise the same number of turns when you took it off.
 4.
Selling my NR thunderbird Deluxe. This was a prototype deluxe version with the following upgrades from the BaCH originals. It is the only one of it's kind. Below is the info from the BaCH distributor.

"it is a one-off bass. I had planned to make a whole series together with a Dutch associate who is in touch with Hanson. We selected a standard TH-1 bass from BaCH out of a whole batch they sent us. The one with the best looking grain and attention to detail, made it to be this first BaCHbird Deluxe. We replaced the entire (cheap ass) wiring with clothwire, orange drop capacitor, CTS pots (the neck pickup actually has a push/pull pot to switch it to single coil if desired) and Switchcraft jack input. The machines heads were replaced by Gotoh Res-o-lite Reverse wind tuners. Historically correct shape and -very important- lightweight. No more neckdive! The Hanson Chi-Sonic pickups were placed, making this bas sound killer. Very nice growly midlows. And to really put the icing on the cake we CNC cut a new -historically correct shaped- pickguard with bird logo engraved and filled with acrylic paint. Plus we added the word "Deluxe" on the pickguard at the location where the thumbrest was with the original Gibson NR Thunderbirds."

I have also removed the logo and added a Gibson truss rod cover. It has also had a pro set up. Its a cool bass with great tones either in humbucking or single coil mode. Also included is a custom ox blood croc hard case. Looking for offers around £850.00 no trades. This is a great price considering all the extra time and upgrades. Try finding a non reverse thunderbird at this price. thanks for looking. Apart from changing the PUps,wiring and tuners, has anything else been changed? Is the bridge standard BaCH? Is the finish standard BaCH? Is the finish poly of nitro? Also please what is the neck width at the nut and the top fret? What is the weight of the Bass? Thanks
 5.
....and there is only so much........... all inclusive drinking i can do.
You really need to rise to the challenge here. Are you saying you only drink when you are thirsty?
 6.
Any pics?............not of the bass! Is it a trade or sale?
She's the one on the left. Open to offers..
 7. I'm getting rid of the Missus and marrying this.
 8. Already mentioned.. Lemmy, 'White Line Fever', Crue 'The Dirt', but how about 'I was a Teenage Sex Pistol', by Glen Matlock? All easy reads for your Holidays in the Sun. If you fancy a weightier tome, how about (Yes, not a Bassist) 'Redemption Song, the definitive biography of Joe Strummer' by Chris Salewicz. Where are you going, by the way?
 9. Satellite basses were sold through Kays catalogue late '70's to early 80's. Don't bother
 10. Very nice indeed. They had it down in '56, makes you wonder what the last 55 years have been about

 12.
I think there is a virtual brand new one FS on BC now ( http://basschat.co.u...61#entry1459461 ), Xmas is coming, people need the readies, so you might get a good deal. Anyway.. Good-luck!
He's just knocked £100 off. Good price for a brand new TBird
 13.
I use a car polish called 'Mer' on just about everything that needs a clean. Plastics, metals, woods, the lot. Very gentle, very easy to use. It was commended to me by custom bike builders. I used it on my own bike, and it migrated to my guitars. Also use the gibson pump polish, with a nice soft clean duster. MB1. Is it not the "Mer " that takes out the fine scratches and revitalises dull or faded paintwork?
Could be. I use the polish, but they do have a scratch removing paste. T Cut brings up old oxidised paint work too, but I wouldn't use it to polish a bass. Here's the full range of Mer stuff... 15. Try a bunch and see which one you like. I had always played P's and fancied a change and wanted a thinner neck. I was very impressed with the Pro, but I thought the Epi bolt-on terrible. Then I tried the Gibbo, and it was game over. There is really no comparison. Mine was born early '11 and she is spot on, and I don't agree about QC issues. She is very well constructed and the finish is top notch. I sourced a Super-tone from eBay for £70 and had her all set up by a pro luthier. The Supertone gave a richer tone, but knocked off some of the treble. She has a very low action and no buzz all the way up the neck. I think many of the negative stories about TBirds are from people who heard something from someone, without having ever owned one. Also, it's horses for courses, some folk get them and realise they are not their thing. Yes, they are not cheap, but look at it this way, if you are going to buy an Epi/Epi Pro, then the Gibbo is just costing you the difference. I spent 2 months researching, and before that I was a die-hard P bloke, but I made the right choice from the heart and the rest just flowed. I think there is a virtual brand new one FS on BC now ( http://basschat.co.uk/topic/161120-gibson-thunderbird-for-sale/page__pid__1459461#entry1459461 ), Xmas is coming, people need the readies, so you might get a good deal. 16.
Ha, I was looking at the listing thinking it looks to have plenty of grain going on. Gonna fret one?
There has been a whole back-story going on with the Blud. Steve himself thought the Bloodwood a bit plain after I'd asked for deep grain. My reasons for originally rejecting it were not much to do with the grain. But, she's started to grow on me. Not sure about frets. I've never played a fretless before. I'm going to practice on the Amb, while finishing the Blud. Fretting is a bit beyond my skill, but I know a bloke who can. The jury's out on that one.. We'll see.
 17. Well, another day and more Wishbassery. Steve had put the original Bloodwood Lobe on eBay, and I just kept staring at her, like she was a lost child, and thought, what the hell. So I bought her. Now I have Two WishB's on the way. Proper bonkers, me. Had an email that the Ambrosia Maple Lobe is on the way. The Bloodwood Lobe as appeared on eBay.. Bloodwood Body. Persimmon Fret-Board. Persimmon and Locust Neck
 18. You should give this guy a shout.. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/161885-short-scale-bass-again/page__pid__1460545#entry1460545
 19. Hang on.... I just spotted this one on BC, looks very nice and well priced... 20.
Haven't finished the one I have yet, still waiting on black hardware arriving cause the silver looks wrong now its done.
Indeed. Black hardware was spec'd and agreed on in my build, but silver got put on anyway!
 21. Why don't you contact Mr Wish and see if he'll do you a deal?
 22. OK. Been a little while since I moved on this topic. Long story short, I've decided not to go with the above choice. Instead. I've done the deal to get this one... Ambrosia Maple Body, Persimmon Fret-Board. Walnut, Persimmon and Maple Neck Which is just about to be despatched to the UK. I'll let you know as soon as she arrives.
 23.
... the main Orange amps.....are built here in the UK.....
That's a moot point. The large Orange heads are are pieced together in the far east, and have the minimum of final assembly done in the UK in order to qualify to have a 'Made in Britain' stamp. In not saying that the AD200 is any the worse for it, if I didn't have a GT200, that's what I would have. But, it does give Matamp the USP of being 100% British built from the ground up, and both the GT200 and AD200b are similarly priced at around £1.4K. Plus you can have the GT200 individually voiced and styled to your choice.
