But you are right the MDP neck is squared off at the heel, and the pocket is rounded, but the scratch plate masked off any cavity. What was interesting was there was a little yellow plastic strip stuck into the neck pocket. I removed this prior to the dry build, and she went together well enough, but with very high action at the dusty end. I re-built putting the plastic thingy back were it was from, and the action was amazing.. spot on Kebab?! on a Sunday? -

Hello All, Due to a glitch in the fabric of the space-time continuum, I came into the possession of a MIM Mike Dirnt Fender Precision, minus the body. I bought an unknown P Bass body from eBay for £27 and a black pick guard for £12. The body was covered in about 12 layers of black Holts touch up spray, which a I got rid of by hand to discover a rather nice Fender (or Squire) body. My Luthier can't make his mind up if it's Fender or Squire, but he thinks either way it is early Japanese. The body is constructed with long block sections glued together, sandwiched front and back with a finished laminate. I'm wondering if it was originally sunburst, so you wouldn't see the edge, but who knows? The wood is nice enough to be on show. I built her up after sanding and she looked very '70's with the wood and black guard. But to hide a few joins I've coloured it white with Liberon wood dye, so the grain is still visible. The dye was difficult to use. You cannot build it up, as it becomes chalky, and if you put more than 2 coats on the dye will take off what had gone before. The pics you are about my 5th attempt, and I'm leaving it at 1 coat. Going to finish off with a clear nitro gloss. This will be the second body I've nitro'd, so I'm feeling confident, as learnt so much the first time around! Rough wood doesn't scare me, I've got a load of sandpaper from P60 to P400 grit, and then there's the power sanders! Just emailed... Hi Steve, OK. Could you do a Lobe with Persimmon neck and finger board. as mixed in colour as possible Bloodwood body, as grained as you can get Kent Armstrong humbucker in the P Bass position Volume control and jack input down away from away from Bridge Jack input lower to the rear of the volume control, on the front, not side as previously mentioned Control cover plate on the back of instrument Fret-less, no side dots If there is a choice of hardware colour, black please White, unfinished Thank you.

This is all a bit weird, I posted this topic to ask advice about wood, but it seems to have turned into something else. Thank you for everyone's warning about Wishbasses. I'm very aware of issues with these guitars, and have followed threads on them closely. As I previously posted I see this as a winter project, hopefully to keep me off the drink over the dark nights ahead . I'm very confident in my woodworking skills, and have more gear then you could shake a spoke-shave at. If I encounter anything beyond my ken I have a top Luthier to hand who deals with my current brace. And I've previously bought guitars from the states, so know what to expect from parcel force and Customs and Exile. Thanks for the Talkbass pointer BigRed, I'll definitely look it up and give it a read. Thank you for your concern Chris, but sometimes you have to take a chance on things and be the pilot of your own ship. If I was to go by everything posted on forums I would have never purchased a TBird (neckdive...build quality etc etc), but she is the best-est thing ever. I open the case, breathe in the aroma, and my grin is from ear to ear. Anyway, if Wishbasses aint your thing, then they aint your thing

I also understand that some people do not think wood a determining factor, but I do. Wood has variables such as density, grain and weight, all which IMHO make a difference to resonance, sustain and tone. What I'm after is a nice deep red/brown/burgundy wood with some nicely defined grain, hopefully giving a rich tone, and would appreciate BC'ers input. This will be my first fret-less, and I'm enjoying the decision making process.This was not meant to be a debate over wood versus hardware and electrics. I think that is for another thread.

But I should imagine he uses the same glue on each instrument, so I probably don't have a choice. But seeing as he uses many different woods, I do have a choice. And different woods must affect tone, or should we all make do with pine guitars and that would be the end of the matter?

Hi All, After looking at various Wishbasses and following Mr Foxen's recent purchase, I've decided to put in an order for a Wishbass. I want a deep red colour, Mr Wish is offering Padauk or Bloodwood. I know nothing about the tonal nature or weights of these two woods. Anyone got any gen on these, or any other suggestions for wood?

Hey, I wanted to hate this lot because of the twattery they caused, but I really liked the vid. I'm going to be contentious here and ask why your guitarist didn't clear his head from the stage? What does a Marshall head cost? A grand? A bet he wouldn't leave a £1k Les Paul up there, so why £1k head? The singer seemed to be very much 'in the moment' as actors would put it, and his reality and spacial awareness would be very different to anyone watching. When you say the singer was kind of apologetic, I should imagine he would be mortified if he'd broken your gear, and this shows in his embarrassment. When the guitarist was more challenging about your gear not being on stage in the first place, maybe he was right. When you were on stage, it was your space. When they were on stage it was their space. Don't want to have a row here, I know no one likes to have gear abused. Just want to offer an alternate opinion. The lesson I would take from this is not to leave anything valuable on stage when someone else is in command of that area.
