1. Have a look at this. I played one and was very impressed with the build quality and tone. Deep and fat, I'm sure plenty of funk has been played on a P Bass over the years. 3. Hi Oli What's happening? Have you got her yet?
4.
Not sure I've seen a car as tradebait on here before! I don't even drive though, so it's a bit of a non-starter
As may well the Renault be too
5. Is she a Fenturd Precishition or a Telecrapster?
6. 'You will have lots of street cred' ... Hahahahahaahhahhah.. How stupid does this guy think people are?! All people will think is that you sit all day with your fingers up your bumhole and then finger the neck of this poor guitar. 'and no one will ever know she aint original' ....Well apart from everyone on BC. Actually, she is an original of sorts. Just like the 'Original' one I pump out every morning while reading the racing post. What shocking abuse of a lovely guitar
7. Have you seen this? http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 Might be what you are really after. Edit... Oh, yes you have, Just read your post on that thread.

9. When I look at the tab at the top of my browser it says 'Rickenbacker 4003 Jetglo - £1' If only
10.
Wasn't really Trying to compare him to Youth. Just wanted to put a word in for Mr Raven for his work with both Killing Joke and Ministry. The first 2 KJ albums are in my collection and are among my most played.
I thought Paul Barker played bass for Ministry, but I lost contact with them after Psalm 69?
11. Hang on! what's happened? last I looked it was at £275. Now it's Starting at £50! Mr Foxen, you know more about everything than everyone, what gives?
12.
Er, yes... I do actually sell stuff for my friends if they don't have an eBay account, or if they're having some kind of problem with PayPal, and so forth. But I would never put 'selling this for a friend' in the description.
If I ever see 'selling for a friend', it makes me think it's moody. It's an easy get-out clause from answering questions.... Erm, yes, I've been told it's a Ric, but it's not mine etc etc...
13. I would never think of doing anything untoward with a cat in regard of strings and basses. My cat is a god send, I lost the skinny allen key for my Badass. Luckily Scrambles' little claws are just the right size to adjust the action and intonation. He's a master at it too, although we had to have words the other day when he tried to polish my TBird.
14.
Boil them.... with a little salt, vinegar or lemon juice.... Presto!.... like new again... for a while anyway. Amazing how much finger gunk comes out, too...
Years ago pro player told me he boiled old strings to bring them back to life. I was on a tight budget, so I thought I'd give it a try, and it does work. Surprising the amount of gunk that comes out too. But, with the price of gas being what it is nowadays, you'd be just as well buying a new set. Never added salt or vinegar. But I did once get them mixed up with a pan of spaghetti, with hilarious consequences!
15. Why do people sell things for their 'friends'? Why don't their 'friends' sell it for themselves?
16. The thing with advise is it's free, and you can take it or leave it. But, this is mine. I'd leave well alone, this is a seriously nice and pricey bass. If you f**ck it up you might regret it, and could loose out big time if wanting to sell her on. Me, personally I like sunburst, but horses for courses. I'm assuming the current livery is from Spector, so it will be top-notch, and you would be hard pressed to match the quality. Why not sell her on and try to get a black one? If you really want her black, give this lot a call http://www.simscustom.com/html/home.htm . Will cost you, but it will be first class.
17. Prob been said, but people who write Base instead of Bass.. Morons. Oh, and yesterday I was sitting on my garden wall sanding off crap old black paint from a P Bass body I got from eBay. I'm rubbing away with P60, most the body is back to the wood, just some black left on the edges. This bloke comes along and asks.. Him 'Oh, is that a guitar body?' Me 'Yes, well it's from a bass' Him 'Is it a Fender Precision?' Me 'Yes it is. I bought it off ebay, got it for a bargain cos some donkey had covered it in rotten black paint. So I'm sanding it all off down to the wood' Him 'So what's that black stuff on it?' Donkey
18. What kind of bass is she, and if you've not got her yet why would you find a re-fin necessary? I've done one P bass body, and currently doing another. Just teaching myself as I go along. The only thing I can think of, is the neck doesn't come off, so you have to do the whole guitar and mask off the fretboard. Also you would lose any decal on the head. Plus when the strings come off loosen off the truss rod to compensate for the loss of tension across the neck. See what you think when you get her, as it's very time consuming. I'm sure there's loads of guys with plenty of experience doing thru-necks.. I'm sure they'll be along shortly! Good luck!
19. Interesting. I came across this lot, for those of you who might be looking for a change http://www.watfordvalves.com/products_harma.asp
20.
Truth is, they don't need to.
Have to agree. But it's not about old and new, it's about feel and user-bility. Here's a story: I was starting to get a little bored with my P Bass, and long story short ended up buying a TBird, which I love to bits. Over the past few months I have been badgering a luthier to build me a one-off to my own spec. But every time I sit down to design something, it keeps coming out like a P bass, and the harder I try, it just looks like a P bass that I've done something silly too. It's like Mr Fender hit on something that looks good and feels right, and everything else seems like a derivative of that. Anyway, in the mean-time I've been building a P bass with bits I've got off eBay... got a body for £27! Proper Fender too, just covered in Holts touch-up. Finally got all the crap off today, and built her up prior to having the body finished. And it was like coming home. Everything felt so right and in proportion, and all so brand new. I know everyone's got their own thing, and long live it all. I love the look of Wals and ACG's, but Leo pretty much invented the wheel with the P, and if it aint bust, don't fix it. For my money, I think Fender should be doing less rather than more. Swim the pool, don't race the fellow next to you.
21. He would have to declare a value on the paper work with whoever he sent it with in the States. I'm surprised parcel farce have not given you a break-down. The letter I got from them showed Import Duty, VAT and admin. You are allowed to challenge Customs on the VAT, but when you ring, the first thing they ask is 'what did you pay?'. I had paid £700, but they told me they had calculated the VAT on £300, and the seller had declared £400. So it was difficult for me to argue that the £700 guitar I'd bought was now worth less than £300. I tried to argue the toss that the guitar was old and second hand, but their reasoning was the VAT had never been paid in the UK (as we don't have reciprocal sales tax with the US) regardless of age. Although, as I recall there is a route for proper vintage instruments being VAT free, but it's for really old stuff. When I spoke to Customs, I figured I'd not done too badly, it was just the parcel force admin did my nut. As I recall, I paid £90 all in. Sometimes it makes no sense tho. I bought a Hipshot Supertone bridge for my TBird from eBay, I'd asked the seller to mark it as a gift, and snottily he refused! 'We are a business!' was his email, but it turned up on my doorstep with no garnishing. I think they sit in the warehouse picking on large packages.
22.
I wouldnt say it was nit picking. It is what it is. Glen only played on two tracks of Never mind the bollocks, and thats that. I dont think it undermines his contribution to one of the worlds greatest ever bands. I think the fact that they never wrote another proper song after he left, says much more about his real contribution to NMTB, which certainly would not exist without him in any shape or form. Glen was the major force in writing songs. More often than not Steve Jones would sit guitar in hand waiting for Glen to come up with a (riff) idea he liked for him to spark off. I love Glens playing and some of my faves are 'Dont give me no lip child' 'substitute' 'road runner' and the few other Jam tracks on Rock N roll Swindle.(an otherwise awful album in my humble opinion) This was as im sure you know, the only album Eddie Tudor Pole was on, and then only a few tracks. I saw Ten Pole Tudor, bottom of the bill supporting The Ramones and The Boys, way back when the world started, never thought much of them. I think Eddie is a way better actor than singer. When i mentioned Glens work being heard on bootlegs that were rough , i hope it wasnt taken that i meant Glens playing was rough. His playing was always solid and dextrous, and can often be heard though the fuzz of rough bootlegs. Jonesey himself admitted that in the begining only Glen knew how to play properly. His perfect rendition of the tricky bass part from the Faces song "Three Button Hand Me Down" got him the gig, no questions asked, Only much later did he find out that Ronnie Lane had played on two tape tracks and merged them together. So kudos and all that to Glen.
Well, yes, very knowledgeable and all that. But it's kinda had all the fun sucked out of what I thought was a positive thread with folk giving credit to some personal faves and unsung hero's. But never mind, thanks for all that Professor Dax.
