Newcastle used to have 7 or 8 gear shops: Sound Control, Sounds Live, Windows, Jake's Bass Place, the vintage shop near the fire station, one at Eldon Square (the street not the mall)...
I remember Grott Guitars at Eldon Square.
2.
Billy Apple, you're just a blatant bragger - that bass is effing awesome!
Thank you . Here's the other two.. 40th Anniversary Euro. Solid maple wings. Tone pump NS2 Helium. Maple top, water tank redwood back. 9V Haz And to complete the bragging.. Me and the Boss at this years LBGS I thank you
3.
Mine is around 9.5lbs. The ones I had before were around the same weight but none was significantly lighter so yes, your chances to find one under 9lbs are small.
8.8lbs, but a US custom build..
4. I always hated the look of Spectors thinking they represented all that was wrong with the eighties. That was until I saw one and played one and then it all made sense. After that it was pretty much call off the search. I'd start with a s/h Euro and take it from there. If its not for you, you'll easily move it on.
5. My 4001 had the best neck of any bass I've ever owned and the worst body. But, I still find myself looking at Rics. Maybe a 4003s one day?
6.
One of the most overrated bands of all time IMO. Two or three good tunes, but Joe Strummer can't sing to save himself. Tuneless caterwauling.
I think that's a rough assessment, but each to their own. One man's tuneless caterwauling is anothers delight over Jimmy Jazz.
7. Cool ! You can't beat a bit of Bassey.
8.
I am a tube driver on the Central Line in London. About 4 months ago some young lad jumped under the train I was driving at Tottenham Court Road station. He never made it. I feel sorry for his family but I never knew his name or why he did what he did. I was taken away from the scene almost immediately while the emergency services did their bit. It is however, an occupational hazard in my job, but a loss of life is still a huge loss. Celebrity or not.
Is it true or false that a driver gets 3 months off when this happens?
9. I'm not sure how any of this will stop criminals, but there you go.
10. Natural figure in the wood. If the rest of the bass is bang on, I'd keep it.
11. Np hybrid will ever sound as good as a valve, simply because the sound is in the back end. If you want the sound you have to put the work in. Everything else is a compromise.
12.
Wiki to the rescue? https://en.wikipedia...son_Thunderbird
That makes sense. One pup and it's the II, two pups and it's the IV!
13.
... this Sunburst model has the rare distinction of being owned and played by The Who's master bass player John Entwistle. Unfortunately, a quick Google turns up literally dozens, perhaps hundreds, of images of The Who's master bass player playing Gibson Thunderbirds, not one of which is this bass. And since the advert itself fails to offer such an image, it's hard to see how even so reputable a dealer as NKR can make this provenance claim.
He had hundreds of basses. Probably sat in a case and never played live? If it was Guigsy alone that owned it, you'd expect a discount, especially for him drawing a cock on the original case.
14. It says Thunderbird II, but only has one pup. Was there a TBird I?
15. I was researching valve amps. Still am.
16. People get old, people get ill and people die. That's life. Nothing to do with 2016
17. I've not found this. I've always got enough attention to make me happy.
18. My Burman is 100 watts and is very loud and clean. I've only heard good things about the Mywatt and thought they had sound samples on their website. I'm sure a couple of members here have them.
19. You wouldn't want to take it to a pro and get a proper job? Could be cheaper than you think.
20. I liked all the IRS albums, with some tracks being punctuation marks in my life (Fall On Me). Saw them live at Newcastle City Hall on the Green tour and it was brilliant. But after Green I tailed off. Couldn't stick the whole Shiny Happy People thing.
21. Must chase John. Last time we spoke he said it was nearly done. No point in rushing these things.
22. It could be all sorts of stuff. I'd get it to a tec.
23.
I have heard of quite a few Warwick truss rods breaking but this could be idiot user error BTW Im not a Warwick hater was just curious
I thought the Warwick TR could be fixed pretty easily?
