B String. 34" or 35"? Opinions please
it's cost me a fair chunk
I've bought three sets over the years and have never felt cheated. The cost is offset by the quality engineering, ability to adjust tension, the great feel, the lack of re-drilling and the fact that they are super light and work. Enjoy!

I didn't find my 4001 to be asymmetric and really like the lack of taper. Why does a neck need to get fat up the dusty end?
-
What was weird about the neck?

Initially I thought it was a joke, but this really exists

When is the Adam Clayton sig model out? -
Gotoh GB640's or GBR640's if you want reverse ones. They're the business.

Doug Wimbush/Premier Guitar Rig Rundown (2016)
Billy Apple replied to NancyJohnson's topic in General Discussion
I've been very lucky to interview Doug. I came away that day with a new friend. Genuine genuine guy who has stayed in touch. The camera team who video'd the day said that it was the best interview they'd ever worked on. I can't take too much credit for that, Doug was just superb! We played swapsies too - I played his lovely Spectors and Doug has made my Shuker custom sing!
I've heard on TB that Spector do not give their endorsing artists any basses for free. Any truth in this do you know? -
I've got a B7K
Sounds like Spector is the TB equivalent of Barefaced on here!!
Barefaced seem to go down well on TB. I've not read anything about the handles. No, Spector have a pretty good rep, especially in the customer service line. What happened was this chap's bridge flew off one day. He contacted Spector who sent him new screws, but they were too small (so maybe non-original screws in the first place?). So he replaces the bridge with screws from Home Depot (Yankee B&Q). Low and behold the bridge pings off again! Enjoy! https://www.talkbass.com/threads/i-cant-believe-this-happend-again.1179251/
That's what I thought and was laughing at, especially the opening sentence.
What as in it smells of old people and was rendered obsolete by the internet a decade ago?
Absolutely.

My OP was maybe a bit flippant, but if did make me laugh. TB is great for a Spector head like me as it's such a great resource, but if if you turn your back for a moment the owners club moves on by 15 pages and it's difficult to keep up. I avoid most other places as threads grow quickly and the angle gets lost. The SOC is great though, very helpful guys and not a troll in sight. Mind you, if you criticise Spector bridge screws failing you're rounded on pretty quick! TB is the Uni Library. BC is the local.

I've had a good weekend getting stuck into my new Spector Forte 5 and Marshall Super Bass. The Forte was a custom order and when it arrived the action was so low all I was getting was fret-clatter. I'm a difficult customer as I want a low action but I'm a full-on pick player that really brings out any fret-buzz. A certain amount of buzz is OK, but you know when it's wrong. The bass had to go back to Bass Direct to change the pre-amp. It came back with a better set-up, but still not quite right. I took it along to Martin Peterson at the Gallery for a change of strings and then it was around 75%. On Friday I took it back for some fine tuning (all done on the spot and part of the original set-up price) and now it's at 100%. He put a touch more relief in the neck and managed to lower it a bit at the bridge. So now I've got a very nice action, but clearly ringing strings in-spite of my violent pick. The B is something to behold.. Mmmm Baby! I've also had Stuart at Berkshire Guitar Amplifier Repairs http://www.fixguitaramps.co.uk/ go through my stable of Jule, Burman and Marshall. All the loudners are in tip-top condition and I'm enjoying the Marshall very much, no hum, hiss or scratchiness, just loads of beautiful valve. I've sat playing the Spector through a B7K into the Super Bass and out an EAD Foundation 212, all with a big smile on my face. So thanks to Martin and Stuart. You'd be hard pressed to find better people who do what they do, and the price? £68 all in, plus a free set of strings courtesy of the BC connection and D'Addario. The moral of my story is, if something is not right maybe it needs a bit of time and a small investment to get it how you want it, as opposed to just thinking you need different gear. And the beauty of Basschat is there is a wealth of information to point you in the right direction to get the right people to do the work. I'm made up.. aint life grand!

I quite like the videos. I accept the sound is sh*te because most things are on You Tube. I like that you can see the basses in action and after all it's just a taster. I'm not sure anyone would buy a pricey bass on the strength of a YT clip. But as others have said, at least they do it.
Seems to be turning into a Carlsbro hate thread...... My first 'real' amp was a Grampian 50watt - weighed a ton & sounded like sh*te............
Well, I hope there's room for Ashdown, because they're the worst I've played through in rehearsal rooms. Wooley and tone-less. -
I'm hungry now.
