NAD and NCD- warning heavy old Ampeg content
Billy Apple replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Amps and Cabs
Congrats on a great rig. If your 810 fits in the car then keep it. The sealed fridge is way better than the 410 or the 610 what with them being ported. The standing room they all take up is just the same and when you move them on the wheels they are all much of a much-ness. I passed on an 810 for a smaller 610 and it was just not the same. -
Advice Needed: Sandberg / Lakland Skyline / Maruszczyk
Billy Apple replied to mal2404's topic in Bass Guitars
Not sure to be honest Billy, over the years no matter what I have always been drawn to these style basses. Spectors (from my limited experience) do have incredible range
I always played Fender shaped basses until I found Spectors and I've not looked back. They certainly don't lack punch! TBH what you need to do is get out there and check out the options for yourself. An internet forum can guide you so far, but you need to see, hear and feel the things in meat-space to make a truly informed decision. -
So I'm looking for a bass that with a nice "modern flatter neck radius" and have a little more tonal variety than a straight passive P Bass (Not that I don't love this - but would like a little more hence perhaps the P/J pickup might be the answer?
Why limit yourself to Fender shaped objects. How about a Spector Euro? Active pre, with PJ pups, a 16" radius board and a very comfortable curved body. -

Did you buy it new? Because the distributor will most likely refer you back to the retailer

I thought the head was Ibanez, but the knobs and control plate looked unfamiliar to me.
* I cannot report on the Beatles influence on The Sweet, but Mr Andy Scott of that band lives in the next village over from me. If and when I see him I shall ask him to vouchsafe the facts in the matter.
Both had Brian's that did things

Just wondering what the bass is that Stu West is playing?

Mighty Mite necks are good value. -

sky high.... example, In 2010 I bought a Dingwall ABZ 5 in the Bass Gallery Camden brand new £1250 now to get one of them its £2000 http://www.bassdirec...urst_wenge.html
Erm, yes.
[shameless plug] As it happens I've recently started a documentary photo-project gathering the stories of people working on Denmark Street. The first in the series was an interview with Graham Noden, who has run his repair shop in the basement of Andy's/Hank's for the last 30 years http://streetofsound.uk Brian Rowe of Wunjo coming soon...
Looking good.....whats the timescale on completion now?
No idea. I'm not even asking for one. It will be done when it's done.
Yes the amp is back and working perfectly again, the detected fault from the engineer was: "Traced fault to short circuit capacitor on the +15v line. Replaced capacitor, checked and tested" Cost £107.55 I want to train as an amp repairman now! How much does a capacitor cost in Maplin? £1.50 to £2.50? Do the maths. I am just glad I got it back and I don't have to look for another or a replacement, and I am not blaming the repair shop because it's all to do with their hourly rates and stuff, (part and labor... blah blah) but I am wondering what it would have costed me if say the the mother board had gone or a transformer? Gee!
I wonder what the cost of wood, paint and bits for your Dingwall is?

I put in an order for a LL a while ago. When it was finished the relicing was way more heavy than the light that I'd asked for and I had my deposit returned. The bass that I had built was bought and has been up for sale here at least once (maybe twice). I'm glad I didn't go forward with it on reflection. They may well be nice basses, but they are just parts-bin builds and unremarkable in that fact. I think this is reflected in how quickly people move them on. I do think we get whipped-up about the latest thing, which IMHO seems to be Maruszczyk gear ATM. I wonder how long it will be before a glut of them appears in the marketplace?

Is Keef right, Sgt Peppers is a load of tosh?
Billy Apple replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
I'm appalled at the notion that anyone could have been influenced by Roger Moore in a Lotus.
It was 1977 and I was 10. As Lemmy would say, the sight of a well turned ankle would send me into paroxysms of joy. -
To all younger rock musicians; If your standing on stage singing and playing an electric guitar. You're influenced by The Beatles. Case closed. Blue
No. This I do not agree with. I first stood on stage with a bass when I was 15 because I was influenced by Sweet, Slade, T Rex, The Clash, The Sex Pistols and the increased opportunity to get females. The aforementioned may have well been influenced by The Beatles, but I don't accept my guilt by association. It a bit like saying because I drive a car I must be influenced by the Model T, when day one for me and cars was Roger Moore in a Lotus. -

I used to like the Doors, but don't now. I think you grow out of some bands and they're one of them. -
the point of this thread is in no way to grumble about the seller or otherwise simply complain. I just find myself in a position where I am torn as to what to do and so asking the advice of more experienced people seemed like a good plan before taking any action.... Anyhow, thanks for the advice folks, its really appreciated and helped me think things through
I totally understand how you feel, it takes the shine right off when you're unwrapping that parcel and it doesn't match with the picture in your head. I suppose I'm looking at it with a few purchases under my belt, so apologies if I come over as a bit harsh. The problem with the internetz is everything is a bit distilled and the rounded edges and nuances are lost. Sometimes you can get so much advice that you end up not knowing which way to turn, so with this in mind I'll give you some more .. or rather a story.. I bought a bass that was pretty much described as mint. It wasn't. I was offered a full refund, but the truth was I wanted the bass. The issues were only cosmetic, but it rained on my parade come delivery day. I swallowed my pride as I knew I'd not find another at that price. I spent £60 with my local Luthier getting it spruced up, just fixing-up some very simple things (like the front strap button moving due to the screw hole wearing big). It's by far from the most expensive bass I have, but in terms of play-ability and just feeling good with it in my hands, it's one of the best basses I own. I doubt very much I'll ever move it on. At the end of the day, no matter what anyone says, you must do what you think is right.
