1. +1 on this bass, it's very nice indeed. I would've had it myself if I hadn't found its twin sooner.
 2. Just had a trip to Wunjo to spec a new strap. Was served by Tom and the lovely Dionne. Had a noodle on a superb original Coronado II which sounded bostin' through a Fender Rumble. We had a bit of a natter and I showed off my new white 'Joe Strummer' George Cox creepers . I came away with a mono strap at an unbeatable price. Can't recommend these guys enough. Should be at the top of your list for any London visit.
 3. I had a MM P neck. Good price, good quality. Maybe the fretboard was a little thin, but the rest was spot on. No frettage issues. There's a chap on ebay punts them out. Bluebass, I think.
 4.
Hi You are right about the Gibson Non Reverse reissue being a bit short of the mark so I upgraded mine. It's missing its truss rod cover at the moment I broke it putting it back on. New one should be here anyway now.
Nice. Where are the bridge and pups from?
 5.
Tube tone doesn't just come from the pre-amp, it also comes from the power tubes and the output transformer, so a tube pre on its own won't give tube tone. A great deal of what contributes to tube tone is compression, so to emulate it you should have a compressor in your signal chain, preferably not a 'one-knob wonder'.
^This. Try as you might, it's the power section that makes the difference. The best tone I've had is by cooking the slave on my Burman with a low signal from the pre. With this you get a manageable volume, but it does feel as if you are doing things backwards. See if you can pick up a 100 watt power amp and run a DHA VT EQ pedal into it. It's the valves in the pre give the buzz, but the power valves give the clank and bounce. There's not much (if at all) can substitute for this..
 6.
I wonder how these people have managed to get to adulthood without electrocuting themselvs trying to play bass in the bath or something....
I used to do that but packed it in a while ago. I wasn't bothered by the shocks, but the sound was too clean.

 9.
My J weighs in at a tad over eight and a half pounds.
How much?! This is a Tad.. A Tad Doyle, that is
 10.
I feel a major attack of the GAS coming on…. so I have a couple questions: I understand that this was a custom build, but can you spec neck dimensions and radius? Or is it a case of maple or rosewood/ jazz or precision? Can you spec body woods? And how heavy do they come in?
The necks are Allparts and as standard come with 10" radius and a C profile. The bodies are Alder. The J Bass I played (Discreets) was what I would describe as medium weight, between 8lbs and 9lbs
 11. Here's some gut shots of my Burman SL100. Look at the transformers on this lot! Phwoor!
 12.
Killer cab, Great price, Collect from around Swindon (ish), What's not to like?
Swindon
 13. The lifts are quite a walk from the platforms, and it was a shorter distance to the escallyaytors. Going up was easy, going down took a certain skill.

 15.
I meant a stack of the Burman, Ampeg and Matamp heads altogether!
D'oh!
 16.
The 'Drummer at the Wrong Gig' video usually runs in tandem on Basschat with 'Cross-dressing Japanese Bass Player' (though I think he or she may be Korean):
I think the correct term is 'Bat Wanger'
 17.
Here I disagree. I know religion is a tricky area, but Spitfire flaunts his believe and, I think in America in particular, you can probably get a good number of sales just by being a good old card-carrying christian. Mont Allums does it (and has no qualms charging a LOT of money for a couple of resistors, capacitors and an OpAmp or two). Many other small vendors have no problem putting their beliefs on their webpages. Are they doing it because they love the lord almighty or because they want to appear clean cut and trustworthy and to drum up a few extra sales? You be the judge!
There are aspects of the Spitfire website that I find not without irony. However I do want to keep this thread well and truly within forum rules, so I would appreciate if the more spiritual aspects of Spitfire Inc. operations were not discussed here.
 18. I appealed the Paypal's decision and this is the reply I've received. It makes interesting reading and certainly puts a different spin on ordering anything custom made through Paypal.. Unfortunately, we are unable to take any action on this claim because it is not covered under PayPal Purchase Protection. Customized items are not eligible for coverage under our policies. To learn more about PayPal Purchase Protection, simply click “Legal Agreements at the bottom of any PayPal page and then click “PayPal User Agreement.” So don't be using Paypal for anything made for you
 19.
Flyguitars pegs the 'other' design as the original, which I didn't think was the case. You are indeed building a non-reverse design though. I guess the semantics throw me off, as I would assume the 'reverse' would be the second design as a design has to exist first to then be reversed.... I would have thought Fender would not like the non-reverse design as it is a tiny bit like the Jazzmaster outline... if viewed in the dark. Flyguitars is a cool site. The t-bird pages are here: http://www.flyguitar...Thunderbird.php
Well, he's got a website and everything so must be right! No, actually he probably is. My logic is that it you reverse something, then the original (non-reverse) must have gone first. So, I can't work out how the later, non-reverse TBird is not actually the reverse.. Hope this makes sense!
 20. This is definitely the non-reverse. The first ones were this shape. I believe Fender made moves against Gibson, and the shape was reversed into the more widely known profile
 21. Cool build thread. The bass looks great
 22. Just to bump this along a little bit. Obviously Howard has been out of action, but hopefully we'll see the next stage soon.
