Limelight is the new black
Sweet Jesus! They look brill. How do they sound?
Cheers Steve, they sound awesome. They have plenty of heft, but with a nice definition and a touch of sparkle. I've been round the houses with the Ampeg to find the tone, but I plugged the Ric into this and the Ric just said yes. I believe these were made in 1972. Almost noiseless, not bad for 42 years old!

Just picked these Burmans up yesterday..

Here's one for the stack fans.. Even Lady Bones stuck her head round the door and commented on how nice it sounded. Just to put this in perspective, when we visited the Bass Doc at New Year, the only thing she remembers was the fact that Howard had a pink Xmas cake. Everything else just passed her by. I couldn't remember Howard even had a Xmas cake, let alone what colour it was.
You brought it home on the train? That's dedication!
Tell me about it. The walk from the overground at London Bridge to the Jubilee line was killer. Down-escalators with a Burman in each hand is hardly living the dream!
WoT is dead right you know, Sean! Did I not say exactly the same thing to you only yesterday when you were round here admiring my new Spitfire guard??
I've never said the guard is terrible, and may well be suited to someone else, and yes your Jazz looks (and is) sublime. I will freely admit the guard adds to that sublimity. But the guard they made for me is not representative of the examples they gave (although it is now seeing as Spitfire added the pic of it to the site ) This whole thing is not about Spitfire guards, it's about the business practices behind it. How Spitfire cannot accept that the product can never be anything less than perfect. According to Spitfire, the guard is perfect for Spitfire, but it's going on my bass. Is it not only fair that it is perfect for me too? Imagine we are in a parallel universe but one where Spitfire just made another guard which was right for me (which looked like the photos at the time). I'd be posting a thread about how brilliant their service is, as I do for for companies that provide it. IMHO this would've led to increased sales for Spitfire and doubtless someone here would've bought the guard. Spitfire could've ended up with a 'Limelight factor' with many people here wanting the product. But that did not happen. I'm not prepared to take the risk of bringing something into the UK and adding the import duty just to see if I like it. Then trying to sell it on and recoup my losses if I don't. This company has sent me interminable emails just full of complete and utter nonsence, reams and reams of them. The second thing they said to me after I 'take the guard and learn to love it' was we'll dock your money. They had put the guard up for sale 3.5 hours before I'd given them my decision, after that there was no way I wanted to conduct business with this company. Spitfire have subsequently revised the price after first posting it for sale at $175, only because I think they've been shamed by the threads I've started. Spitfire have now added the photo the guard to the site in an effort to say 'there you go, we told you yours looks like the examples' This is an organisation that will do or say anything they can in order to absolve themselves of any responsibility or care towards a customer that questions them. I'm way past the point where I will consider having anything else to do with this company.
Lovely! Do you still have the Ampeg and Matamp? Stack pic mandatory! Not on that stool though
I put this on the chair last night because I was getting some very weird vibrations. I'd carried this Mutha home in the custom Roqsolid cases Discreet had made. It was three trains and the changes in between. By the time I got to Paddington my hands were refusing to grip anymore! I first set it up as a stack, but was positive something was vibrating in one of the amps. I thought maybe something had come loose in transit. After I took the amps off the speaker I was still getting the same vibration, which was eventually tracked to two metal candlestick holders on my drawers! Still got the Matamp, but the Ampeg will be going in the Marketplace sometime later today. My arms are three inches longer today

If you look closely, you'll see it's already broken the stool!

Ladles and Jelly Spoons, one is proud to announce my new acquisition.. Purloined from Discreet of this parish, I'm proud to present my new(ish ) Burman MPA SL 100 And it sounds big-bolshy-yard-blocko's indeed!

I'm laughing now because Spitfire have retrospectively added a picture of the guard to their site as an example of 'crazy '70's'. All I can say is had I seen a picture of the P Bass guard as an example of 'crazy 70's' then I would have not ordered crazy 70's in the first place! Talk about changing the goal posts! It like I need a kind of forwards/backwards time-machine to solve this one!

I went round to Discreet's while he was out and nicked his gear.. Well done me!
Interesting comment from one of the OSG mods which chimed with my view of the Tort thread here: They say that viral 'reputation' marketing is highly effective if it's well-managed.
From the 'Where has all the decent tort' shill-fest: TBH, I was thinking about it and even visited his site - until I went back and read the bit about 'I become your friend'? Now that's just plain creepy so I heaved a regretful sigh and put the idea on the back-burner, accounting it a bullet well-dodged. That my good friend and seasoned industry observer Mr W. Apple should subsequently run aground is a matter of profound regret to me. I feel I should have said something, perhaps on the lines of: 'FOR F**K'S SAKE DON'T DO IT, BILLY!! HE'S A GRINNER!!' .
I read the above quote after I placed my order, but as you can imagine that one stuck in my throat. Spitfire have been far from a friend to me. One lives and learns.
Lem Oil for the boards and Dunlop guitar cleaner for everything else for me, no problems.
How many Lemmy's need to be squeezed for a bottle? -
So this guy praises Jesus Christ and the Lord's work but he charges an extortionate amount for his products and keeps 35% of money paid to him when it turns out he's made something that doesn't fulfil the customer's request? I think you ought to quote some Bible at him, specifically from Luke 16:13 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
Thanks for the support Howie. But if it's OK, I'd rather keep this thread focused on Spitfires business model and not the beliefs of the any individual behind it. It's business, not personal, I'm sure you understand

Well, for the time being it appears that Spitfire have been able to keep my money. Just got this reply from Paypal.. 'We have concluded our investigation into your Buyer Claim. We regret to inform you that we were unable to resolve this case because the complaint was incomplete, issued incorrectly or outside the bounds of coverage as defined in our User Agreement. As a result, we have not taken any action at this time. Please be assured that this case has been noted in the seller's record for future reference. I need to contact Paypal and see if they can be more specific in their decision, as it does not say that they have upheld the sellers policies I'm so upset by all of this. I can't believe Spitfire are prepared to let the people who are trying to support them down in such a way.

I would steer clear of Spitfire. I ordered a guard off him and what he was going to supply was not as described on his website. He is a man who won't listen to anyone but himself. He says what he produces is art and therefore however it turns out you have to accept it. He will not offer an alternative and If you ask for your money back he steals a 35% fee from you. Please read about my experience here with this charlaton

I've heard good things about Oranges after sales service, even when warranties have expired. I'd make them my first stop.

Can folk stop this petty bickering? Back on topic please
They're $175, which is about £105. Plus you have to factor in the import duty, VAT and Parcel Force fee. This will be around an additional £30
I forgot to add in postage at $43 (£25.50) and my OP was incorrect, the re-stocking fee is 35%
