Nice!
Excuse me whilst I surf over to the GAK site and add a bass or two to my basket... -
At the risk of sounding a bit dim, what kind of differences does a semi-hollow body make to the sound (other than I guess more acoustic volume)?
-
Hope you don't mind me asking, but where did you get this from? It's just I had this exact same bass (first owner), which I added a Badass and Dunlop strap-locks (and some buckle-rash!) to, but I traded it on Basschat just over a year ago! It'd be cool if it was the same one! I might have to buy it back then too, because I miss it!

You are privileged.

Haha noooo, I don't actually own any of this, I was just trying to illustrate that there will always be one more thing we 'need' when in-fact, at least in my case, I'm already lucky enough to have two basses that cover everything for me -

Might be more the best sounding metals are more expensive.
Probably. There seemed to be an obsession across most of the brands with silver sounding amazing though, but at no point was it explained why! I mean, they look prettier, sure -
Also my friend was looking into buying a new flute for uni the other day - why do the more expensive metals like silver give 'the best' sound, eh?
-
"Tell you what Ben: I'll learn guitar, you buy this bass and learn how to play it - and we'll start a band and become famous."
-
Also a big Muse fan, Chris Wolstenholme got me into bass years ago.
However:
Yep, definitely made of cheese. But that's the point really I guess, got to love it! -
2!
Warwick 5-string - active/coil-split - roundwounds - does everything 'modern'
Sue Ryder - passive/back-up for when my back's broken - solely for the P-bass and flatwounds sound
Sorted.
Apart from...
A Dingwall (intriguing)
A proper vintage Fender (just because)
A single-cut six-string (for self-indulgent guitar territory)
A fretless (for staying in tune with the guitarist)
A cricket-bat headless (for that 80s band I haven't joined yet but might do at some point in the future/epic mirror-posing)
A short-scale (just for giggles)
A Fodera (bling)
A custom bass built to render the entire collection obsolete
And so on and so forth -
Here's a couple from an recent acoustic(ish) set for a fashion show! Classic bassist-gawp
Bass-shot!
...And my facial reaction upon hearing back my first take for my old band's EP, quite a while ago...

Just some of it...

I can just imagine the gig dilemma:
Anyone got a spare patch cable? -
Much better
Although it could be much more entertaining if the losers got to design it
Yes! -
Gloss transparent? Maybe a slight tint? If the wood looks nice why cover it up - black will go with it imo
-
I think it was Miles Davis who said something along the lines of: "If you play a wrong note, play it again twice as loud and people will think you meant it".

You can't really go wrong with the Kit Richardson EP - best band on Basschat along with the Jetsonics IMO!
You won't be disappointed. It's rare for me to carry on playing new stuff long after getting it; novelty wears off, something else newer replaces it, loads of reasons. But that Kit EP is even as I type lying next to the CD deck, in fact - no, it isn't - it's just the cover - the CD is still IN the deck. It's excellent!
Ordered the CD and just put the downloads that came with it on my iPod - great stuff! Haven't come across music this, well, musically interesting and engaging in a long time - best spend of the month so far
Might have to check out these other Basschat bands!
See, legal purchases still work! -
Don't, it'll end up costing you money to buy it, it's a bit good.
(or you could go and download it for free somewhere.... )
Is that an offer? PM incoming!
Nah, it's too late for me I'm afraid, it's a done deal. CD incoming! Mmm legal purchases feel good. -

Recording - Average about 5 replies per post.
Sorry I think I mis-understood you in my last post - it's a good point - I haven't really looked into any Basschatter's music properly before...
Time to check out this Kit Richardson stuff! -
I think this may illustrate that, even on a community like Basschat, people would rather talk than listen to music online, even their fellow BC members' music.

Not required in the least. Good thread once we got past the whole moral thing.
Ahh we got past that? Good stuff! I've only just got home so I'm still catching up from page 7 -
While we're at it, congratulations to the OP Mr Ben Jamin - his first sixteen-page thread, I do believe

Why thank-you! Sincerest apologies to all.

Band not yet signed.
Release stuff on the internet.
It goes Viral.
Bingo ticket sales go up .
Would that have hurt them?
If they're unsigned and they released the music then fine. That's a great to get out there.
If they're signed to label and are charging for the music, sure it'd help with publicity, but still not cool. If you can justify downloading illegally on the basis that it might just help an artist go viral then you can justify downloading anything illegally. It'd be better on the whole if illegal downloading didn't happen. -
What happens when iTunes closes down and your hard drive goes skyward ? What exactly will you own? You will have basically paid for the temporary use of something.
Besides that IIRC the downloading is not actually illegal in the UK.
If your iTunes application fails to open for some reason then you'll still have all your music files in the iTunes music folder. Music > iTunes > iTunes Media > Music (or something like that). If your hard drive packs up then unfortunately that's your problem really. -

The only immature argument around here is the one that goes "piracy is always bad". Its just not that simple.
Well it is. It just happened to have a positive effect in the long term for his particular band. If you killed my brother I'd get inheritance. Cheers. That's a very rare occurrence and it doesn't take away from the fact that people still stole his albums and the record company got nothing out of that.
Bear in mind that the albums downloaded were produced with a record company - they're not some new band who have not been signed yet.

Hey, sorry I was at a gig last night so I missed this. Just checked the serial and it's the same one! Let me know if you want it back :-)
Small world! This is the first bass I ever bought - it'd be great to have it back! I'll see if I can get some funds together
Any trades? Haven't got a Sandberg I'm afraid.
