Crate BT220 - 15" combo/cab project - £50 o.n.o
Ben Jamin replied to Ben Jamin's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I'll have a ponder on this mate. Do you know if there is an output through the headphone socket?
Good news! I plugged in today for the first time in, well, months - and it seems it's just the input that's dodgy. If you find the 'sweet spot' with the cable, as it were, the signal goes in and comes out like your everyday bass amp! Chromatic tuner and headphone out function perfectly well. Blending the distortion in a little with the clean channel plus a bit of octave makes for quite a fat fuzz, I've discovered! -
puke on instruments..... looooooovely : /

My old piano teacher had just taken delivery of a new Yamaha grand and I had the honour of being his first student to play it. Unfortunately I hadn't been feeling that well and... Yep. All over the keys. (This was a number of years ago when I was a kid btw! Please don't be put off buying my amp in the for sale section ) -
Post your pictures, Lets see what you all look like.

Jazz bass in the countryside. ...Just realised there was no-where to plug in. -
I've got an old Squier 'Strat' made in China - exactly the same decal except mine says Affinity where yours says Fender. Hasn't been used for years - input jack's gone and the pick-ups aren't aligned very well, especially the neck/middle - but it plays pretty well! Buy a complete strat assembly pickguard (http://www.axesrus.com/pickassy.html or something similar) and it could be a really nice guitar Hope that helps!
Tempted. Could this be couriered, and if so, any idea of the cost?
Sure thing! Although I've not couriered anything before so not sure where to look - are there any companies you'd recommend/avoid? If it helps the dimensions are: 24-1/2” H 24-1/2” W 16-1/2” D 87 lbs Cheers! Edit: If I've done it right, Interparcel quoted me just over £30? -
OK this is a little show off of a title ;-) So I ordered a GT-200 after spending a whole afternoon with Jeff, Hayden, Andrew, and the others... I had brought in my Eden wt-400, my TC RH 450 and my Fender Bassman 100 from 1976... and I am selling the latter as it is no match whatsover! I tested on their 4x10 and 2x12 and this is the best amp I've ever played in. A category on its own. I took the standard, and saw a guitar combo in balck and red and gold and loved it so I went for it! I inquired about a mid-freq-switch like they have on their guitar amps and a different taper on the drive button to be able to dial more subtly in the clean zone... voilà! Speaking of guitar amps, I also ordered a 1224mk2 and two 2x12 for the uni studios that I am in charge of, in sparking blue... My research assistant ( I had to bring 3 guitar players as I was not to shop for that instrument by myself ;-) almost bought one for himself too... all in all, a fantastic day out in Meltham. I'll attach picture when I get the beasts. pa
Nice! Out of interest how did the GT-200 match in terms of versatility with the other amps? Edens especially have pretty powerful EQ IME! Like the sound of sparking blue
I want the gain to be for longer (therefore subtler control) in the clean zone... and I'd like to have other centre freqs for the mids... as for the colour, I went for red and black... and old logo... should be ace! the uni one is blue! wow effect!
Sounds cool! Doesn't the depth control deal with the mids? Nice colours - never considered blue!
and I just bought a gt-200 with 2 little experimental mods... and a 1224mk2 and 2 x 212 for the uni... what an amazing bunch these people are!
Nice one! "For the uni" eh? What are these experimental mods you speak of?

Hey guys, My Crate's been sitting around for months now without use, and with my Matamp arriving soon (hopefully!) it's now entirely surplus to requirements - plus I've got my eye on a bass in the for-sale section! First off, it's not in working order! The in-built chromatic tuner still functions but somewhere along the line something's gone (sorry I'm not particularly tech savvy!) hence why I'm listing it as a project. The cabinet is very solid with some tough carpeting and a solid metal grill. Two bass ports at the back. The handles are massive and very comfortable and it has removable wheels! There's plenty of room for a relatively extensive amplifier and maybe even 2x10 speakers. Or if you can fix it it's a great combo for small gigs/rehearsing etc. £50 collected/+ postage would be nice! But I'm open to offers of all varieties Features!

220 watts
15" driver
4-band EQ
Two-channels (Distortion and Clean) which can be blended and operated via foot-switch
Octave effect operated by foot-switch
FX loop
Extension speaker jack
XLR balanced line out with level control and pre-/post-EQ selection
Ground lift
RCA CD inputs
Headphone jack
Input pad (-20db)
Mute button
Built-in chromatic tuner
Pictures! Thanks for looking!

BC meetup @ the London Bass Guitar Show, 03 and 04/03/12
Ben Jamin replied to Silvia Bluejay's topic in Events
Most random thing happened afterwards though. Just drove back to have lunch in Marlow with my BC book keeper Dave and we were spotted by a BCer who was in Pizza Express for his sisters birthday. I'm really sorry I have forgotten your username but it was great of you to come and say Hi! Give me a shout if it was you and I'll send you a present. Cheers
That'd be me! Great to meet you guys! Hope your pizzas were significantly less burnt than ours -
Haven't heard much on the digital amps but I got word that a prototype's nearly ready for my hybrid! The problem with the levels (I'm not going to pretend to know much about how all this works! ) was because most hybrids just use a valve at the gain stage then have an active EQ going into the digital amp, whereas as mine has a full-on valve pre-amp straight into the digital power-amp. So hopefully I'll be heading down to the factory soon, and I'll try and find out some more about the digital amps

5-string basses - how useful is the 5th string? POLL time, yay!
Ben Jamin replied to Clarky's topic in Bass Guitars
Well in my opinion if you've already got a five-string I'd say it's worth having another go at - even if you don't use the extended range that much I'd rather have it there than not, so that if you're playing along and you hear the need for a big low note... Re the whole C to G thing - I think what he was getting at was the ability to play more in the extended range of one position - handy for doing big runs to a low note and such. I like my little runs so having low notes always accessible on either the E or B string is really useful unless I wanted to slide everywhere. And the trouble with using an E as passing note is that it isn't always going to be appropriate for the music -
I'm in a melodic death metal band (apparently) and unfortunately at this moment in time I can't tell you about our attire as it's going to be a secret until our first gig back at it. Lets just say it's in the manufacturing process now
?

Just remembered a few years ago in my first band (15/16 years old "we're gonna write awesome songs and be famous because my Dad knows a guy who knows this guy..." kinda thing) our frontman decided we needed dedicated 'stage clothes', so to speak. Weird idea, I thought. But since I was the one doing the art GCSE at the time I got to pick his 'gear'... So naturally... White spaceman-esque trainers, white t-shirt with pretty flowers and a thin white scarf with pretty birds ensured he looked as feminine as possible. Managed to convince him and he felt very cool wearing it (thought he was just playing along at first, as he has plenty of money to waste)! Felt a little bit bad but it was all part of the band banter Then he found out and moved to America.

One of the two pairs of trousers I own and something to hide my lack of a manly chest. Anything really Our guitarist has recently taken to wearing one of those silly flat cap things though. Everyone thinks/knows it looks ridiculous but we haven't had the heart to tell him yet

5-string basses - how useful is the 5th string? POLL time, yay!
Ben Jamin replied to Clarky's topic in Bass Guitars
Great for keeping the notes low in any key - and for the big band stuff I do which often involves playing tuba parts and that dreaded Eb I don't use the B-string loads and I could cope without it but I'd definitely miss the extra notes every now and then! -
