I was looking at one of these - but this isn't the first thread I've seen where someone wants to augment or change the core sound of this bass - yet Fender would have you believe it's a tone monster what with the two humbuckers and all... so what's going on?
I did a gig last week where the other bass player used a MPJ. We used the same amp at the same settings, and (sorry if you're reading this other bass player) but I thought the tone was quite unpleasant. Mid-heavy, but not in a funky pokey way, but in an unsatisfying and borderline harsh way,
Probably (tricky stuff, writing about pronunciation!), though now you've reminded me that I usually pronounce it 'kawa sarky' . . . . so that's a third option. Arrgh!!
Now I'm invisiging a TV series about a stealthy assassin with trademark cutting put-downs - KawaSarky Ninja
Most people outside the SE of England would have trouble pronouncing 'Penge'.
I had no idea what Penge was, and I've lived in both Tooting and Blackheath :-D
It's just a matter of em-fasiss. I once knew someone who called Kawasaki motobikes 'kawass-acki' (if that meakes sense - difficult to write it down!)
You mean like 'KawASSaki' as opposed to 'KawasAKi'?

Obviously we haven't heard what you played, so can't tell whether it was a good fit for the song, but typically ska bass will be simple repeated triads or walking basslines, ensuring that the rhythm adds to the down beat, adding to the 'bounce' of the ska feel. I'd say keeping to the root would be highly unusual, but may work in some instances. That's all the diplomatic stuff out of the way. Your guitarist sounds like a knob. Leave ;-)

Yes, "wen-gay" or "that bastard splinter wood" as I sometimes call it.

Barefaced '69er 6x10 sealed cab, 4Ohms, with Roq Solid cover. These don't some up very often (only one ever to my knowledge), as people tend to keep hold of them, and for good reason. I bought this to accompany my 100w valve amp, but with my current (reggae) band, my tonal preferences have moved towards ultra clean/modern, and that's just not what this cab was designed for. I have therefore settled on a Barefaced Super Twin/Avalon pre/Crown power rig. The '69er was designed to go with valve amps, to have a colouration like the classic 1969 Ampeg 8x10. Here's why it's such a coveted cab: -The most compact 6x10 you can imagine, basically 3'x2'x1' -Very Light - 24KG, so you can grab it in one hand and carry it up stairs. It has two inset side handles plus one on top for tilt-back castor action. -Great dispersion: The crossover is such that the three left-hand drivers do the lower omnidirectional frequencies, so the directional stuff is done by a single column of drivers, the way it should be for even tone around the room. -It sounds gorgeous. I've played it with two valve amps, two Class D, and two SS amps, and they all sounded superb. I don't detect any scoop or mid hump, just an even tone which somehow injects a bit of extra testosterone into the amp's tone. -It's as loud as you could need a cab to be, very sensitive. -It looks retrotastic. I mean, just look at it: This is the actual cab with my 100w Red Iron head. I bought it new in December 2012, and it's had moderate use. Too many of my gigs use other people's amps I usually don't use my own amps for band practice due to the ludicrous number of stairs at our practice rooms, and when at home, I practice either unplugged or through the HiFi. Basically, I've just about broken in the drivers for you Condition is very good. You can tell that the castors have rolled across a few carparks, but the rest has been kept A1 by careful use and the RoqSolid cover. The RoqSolid cover is well used and has gaffer tape in various places, but does the job fine. It has the optional front 'board pouch' so you can add a sheet of ply or whatever to further protect the front of the cab. Here's the official info, as you can see, it will set you back over a grand delivered: http://barefacedbass...-range/69er.htm Here's my feedback: http://basschat.co.u...00-roland-rock/ I don't have any packaging materials to deliver this, but I do live near the M1 in the middle of the country (Nottingham), and can deliver up to one hour's drive away for diesel money. The price is firm. If it doesn't sell for £750, I'll just keep it for when I'm playing rock, blues or funk again. In terms of trades, I'm pretty GAS free, but would consider an ACG EQ01 preamp in part exchange. Please don't offer any basses, heads or cabs, as I'm perfectly happy with what I have.

Bummer BRX, hope it's nothing too serious -
Macka B's new video, Medical Marajuana Card, is great, guaranteed to put a smile on your face. We'll be playing at the same festival as him in August, I can't wait to check him out: http://youtube.com/watch?v=J9kSRBprPdE&feature=youtu.be

Sorry, not sure. I just know that my Red Iron amp is fixed bias, and I need to take it to my tech for adjustment when changing the KT88s. I have no idea what he actually does :-)

Hi Andy, I'm interested in this too, as I have the Twin Valve. This thread on TB concludes that the QV is fixed bias: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/trace-elliot-quatra-valve-165731/index2.html if so, so you'd need to get a tech to do it for you
Well, you did say "matching" and this IS matching, innit? For the inquisitive mind: Daisy Rock Debutante Daisy (short scale), of unknown build year, in the colour Awesome Blue.
'Complimenting' I'd say :-) Btw, re. picture above holding the green Bongo - you look different to how I would have imagined you, should I have ever tried to imagine you (prior to seeing that picture)

I got a new (to me) power amp for my hifi and it is sounding superb, so I'm pulling out all the best-produced hifi-tester CDs today: Burning Spear - Hail H.I.M. Donald Fagan - Morph The Cat (I don't actually like the album, but the production is superb) Bill Laswel/Jah Wobble - Radioaxiom: a dub transmission Squarepusher - Buddokan Mindphone Terry Riley - Rainbow in Curved Air Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique -
Here's an example of one that sold recently: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/201798-acoustic-image-euphonic-audio-gear-for-sale/page__hl__iamp+300__fromsearch__1
