When a player only wants to play in a covers band which means learning someone else's lines parrot fashion, why spend hours learning endless modes and diminished scales when he/she will never use them. If that player then chooses to move into a genre such as jazz then those skills will be useful but not before. So why waist time.
I don't agree that, just because you are in a rock covers band, that you need to learn the bass lines 'parrot fashion'. Knowing your scales (and more importantly IMO, the chord tones that they contain) helps enormously when learning bass lines. You hear one part, and either just by listening, or with a bit of fumbling, realise that it is in a certain key, and then you can use that knowledge to learn the part really quickly, as you already know that there is a pre-defined set of notes that the original line (usually) uses. In addition to this, if the band have an extended solo, or decide to wig out a bit, you'll be able to go with the flow, and express yourself a bit, as you know that there are more notes and possibilities than just the original bass part (to be done sparingly, of course)

Square neck pocket compatability
Roland Rock replied to jakebeamish's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've had this experience with Stratocaster/Telecaster necks. You can put a Tele neck (flat end) on a Strat body & it will intonate, but putting a rounded Strat neck on a Tele body doesn't work for the above reason. I'm assuming this would work the same. G.
Looking at the picture above, I know what you mean now. I had thought that 'rounded' referred to just corners, rather than the entire heel end. -
Square neck pocket compatability

I can't imagine that gaps in the corners will be an issue. Purists may claim that the fact that the heel does not have 100% tight contact with the socket will be detrimental to tone, but as an owner of a late '70s P with neck pocket gaps which sounds gorgeous, I don't think you will have much to worry about. -
A Google image search suggests that the standard is the black wooden baton, although there are a few pics of ones with rubber feet, possibly a mod?

Square neck pocket compatability

Maybe Ive got the wrong end of the stick, but wouldn't a rounded heel just fit into a squared socket as normal, but with gaps in the corners? The scratchplate would cover those gaps. -

Caps for unused daisy chain powersupplies....
Roland Rock replied to stevetdunn's topic in Accessories and Misc
Why not just order a daisy chain with the correct number of connectors from OBBM?
As soon as you do that, you get GAS for the latest Chakra FudMincer (or whatever) and you're suddenly a connector short. -
For any type of lead, you can't beat http://www.rock-wire.uk.com The Barefaced manual has some info on cab placement that you may find useful: " If you have multiple cabs then you have many options open to you - the best is almost always to stack them on top of each other. The 1x12" models can be stacked horizontally as well as vertically, which keeps the stack height more sensible if you're using three or four cabs. If you have to place them side by side then cross firing (pointing inwards across each other, with an angle of about 135 degrees between them (45 degrees from the usual)) often works best. In some situations it can help to fire one cab forwards and one cab backwards, particularly when playing acoustic instruments, either back to back or stacked. In smaller venues separating the cabs can work surprisingly well as this helps to energise the reverberant fields around the room - however in larger venues and outdoors this is a bad idea: In large acoustic spaces keep them close together so they couple and so that their direct soundfields do not cause nulls where they're out of phase (separated subs at outdoor gigs exhibit a power alley of increased bottom when you're exactly halfway between them, and then a series of quiet and loud alleys in parallel with the 'power alley' which you'll pass through if you walk sideways through the audience)."

I like a bit of Hip Hop. I'm currently digging Saul Williams, a superb rapper. In this one, I love the opening with its building anger against slavery, and then the ode to the Hip Hop genre, with the coolest of lines bringing in the second verse: "Not until you listen to Rakim on a rocky mountain top have you heard hip hop.." http://youtu.be/bIp47yWUQKs

To me, if a bass buzzes or rattles, it needs a better setup or better player technique.

Guitar shop near Barbican underground?

Is the post-Wapping Bass Centre still in that area near Spitalfields, possibly Brune St? That was about 20 min walk from the Barbican, on the other side of Broadgate -
This does not bode well for me. I have a cover from these guys waiting to go onto the cab (same as yours) which arrives soon.

We supported an excellent reggae band up from London Town, OnlyJoe. Unfortunately, I think that the ticket price was a bit optimistic at £10, and it was too quiet. Those who did turn up had a blast, all very appreciative and up dancing. Oh, and the second support act cancelled the day before, and the DJ never turned up :-D
