1.
That's at least 70 million people who 'don't like music' then. According to the British Hit Singles & Albums book, he has reportedly sold in excess of seventy million albums worldwide[sup].[/sup] [sup]http://en.wikipedia....es_.26_Albums-1[/sup]
To be fair, he's released fifty one odd albums, so could it could be just 1.37 million hardcore fans ;-) Edit: same wavelength as HJ
2.
This might be a really stupid question, but am I right in thinking that if I run my Fender Bassman 100 into my Barefaced Super 12 then I can pretty much turn the amp as loud as I like without fear of damaging the cab? As in will my hearing be destroyed before the cab is, or do I still need to listen out for tell-tale farting noises or something?
Are you talking the Bassman 100 valve head, or the SS Combo? If it's the valve head, you'll be absolutely fine putting it through the Super 12, as it can take a silly amounts of power. If it's the solid state combo, you will not be able to add the Super 12. The minimum impedance for that amp is 4ohms, and it's already paired with a 4ohm speaker. Adding the Super 12 would make 2ohms, which would be a bad thing. If, however, you could bypass the internal combo speaker, and plug into the Super 12 instead, you should be fine. And loud.
3. How about getting a mat, cutting four feet-sized circles in it, then glueing the circles to the feet?
4. How come the choice of fingerboard changed from pau ferro to ebony?
5. Been listening to this Henry Rollins/Flaming Lips version of Dark Side Of The Moon a lot. Really great stuff: http://youtu.be/DE_62Zm476A http://youtu.be/GEIcqdI8s8Y
6.
Grolsch beer bottle rubber rings. Schaller straplocks work, and I used them for years, but I prefer now the simpler yet effective Grolsch rubber ring approach. I've bought other rubber washers but they were never as good... so I buy the beer even if I don't like it much.
Funnily enough, I bought the Grolsch ones, but found them a bit plasticky, so bought some home-brew ones which are nice and rubbery. Mmmmmmmm....rubbery
7. Lots of Irish stuff like The Dubliners, Planxty (good) and Foster and Allen (bad), mixed in with some Buddy Holly, Simon and Garfunkle/Paul Simon, some classical and The Beatles.
8. I've tried proper straplocks, but still prefer the rubber washers. As above though, only practical as the straps never leave my basses.
9. A really good little amp, but I decided I already had valvey tone from my valve amp, so went in pursuit of a super clean amp instead. Figured if you're going to have two amps, may as well make them very different.
10. A good place to start would be phoning either Hotrox or Watford Valves. Both are very knowledgable and helpful, and should be able to guide you towards what you're after. http://www.hotroxuk.com/matched-valves-links-page-12ax7-6l6-909-0.html http://www.watfordvalves.com
11. It's a real pleasure to see such great and comprehensive pictures of a build. Mr Marceau's setup, design and execution are really impressive. By the way, I have magnets securing the control cavity cover on one of my basses, and it has never even thought about moving unless I've wanted it to :-)
12. On my amp which has a clip LED, with my usual setting it lights up when I pluck the string particularly hard. However, if I wanted more overdrive, the manual says that it's fine to up the gain even more, even if it means constant flickering.
13. Yeah, Enrico from W&T seems to be a big fan,. Here's what he told me: "Throughout the years we have tried every brand except maybe two or three of the cheapest ones, and we selected those which showed the best qualities. These were Fodera strings in the first place, then we discovered Dunlops, which are even a few notches better than Foderas in terms of dynamic responsiveness, overall performance and durability"
14. I used to think that the AJ was ugly as sin, but have gradually come to appreciate it. It doesn't try to be elegant or stylish, just the best instrument it can be, and that in itself is attractive. If only it didn't have gold hardware I'd have two :-D
15.
Is there something "new" going on? Fender bought SWR well over 10 years ago.
Fender bought SWR well over ten years ago, and kept the brand alive until around 2012. Now SWR are no more.
16. Dude, see post 2 ;-) It's all here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/207161-the-london-bass-guitar-show-2014/page__st__210
17. Why did you buy it if you didn't like the headband?? Return it, or get used to it as is. However, if you really want dayglo and don't care about resale value, it's milliner time.
18.
I was a bit drunk last night. But still. Wow.
:-D Excellent I'm not really a fan of tort, but I'm loving those examples too - like three dimensional burning embers - smokin'!
19.
You'll always get a cool sound out of a fridgian scale.
:-D Very phunny
20. Excellent, it would be great to meet you and check out some Cog stuff. Like you say, there should be plenty of rigs there to use, but the uptake has calmed down now, so fine if you want to bring yours too.
21. I must admit that I'd not heard of Jenny Haan or Babe Ruth Band, so have done some Googling - wow, what a top band, and a front person with a powerful presence and voice and unique style. What a great kitchen find! I'm just imagining how excited you are at the moment. Here's one of my favourites so far: http://youtu.be/jad9YFROKuw
