Oh, and I do plan to bring gear, even if I'm busy organizing, people can have a go (with permission). Not decided whether to bring my Rocket Rig or my GlockenRig, but will bring both my basses, a '78P and a W&T Ergon 5

As updated above, we went to check out the college today, and it seems ideal for this medium-sized bass bash (We're hoping twenty-odd people, but the more the merrier) We don't need to go through the main entrance - we have our own double doors right off the car park, so you can drive up and unload right at the door: And this is the room as you walk in the door. The toilets (men, ladies and disabled) and kitchen are off to the left, and the wall on the right has loads of power sockets. The seating area at the end can be closed off with a sliding partition: And just because I took it, here's a panaroma of the room, with Simon chatting to the man:

The top gig to be at this week, apparently: http://www.nusic.org.uk/wordpress/top-3-gigs-week-beginning-3rdfebruary/

Barefaced have recently changed the way the calculate their sensitivity ratings: "With our old specs we gave low frequency (100Hz) and broadband (weighted average from 200Hz to the quoted treble roll-off point) sensitivity specs. We've decided to make things easier now and give you just the pistonic sensitivity specs (basically the 80-640Hz region) in half-space as, based on further research, testing and experience we've found they're most representative of real world use."
Here's another. Does "Scoop" in relation to tone / EQ settings mean something like "A bit of a flat spot"? Cheers.
A "scoop" refers to the mids being at a significantly lower level than the bass and treble (usually bass and treble boosted, and mids flat or even cut) If you picture an EQ section which has sliders, the 'scooped' setting is the one where the sliders are in the shape of a smile.

I've had both. Like you say, the Streamliner has been designed with that warmer valve tone. The Streamliner is a really good amp. Playing with the tone controls is fun, because, in true valve style, one affects the other, so it's not quite as intuitive as you might first think, and takes a bit of playing around with. I had read reports of it being 'rediculously scooped' but to my ears, this is overstating things hugely; there is a slight mid dip/natural big bass when all settings at at 12, but this is easily dialled out. I found the OTB to be MUCH more mid scooped than the Streamliner. The controls are deliberately simple, and the mid freq control only has three settings, and whether that is sufficient enough depends on how much of a tweaker you are. It is LOUD! The Shuttle 9.2 is much more comprehensive and intuitive; it's a blank canvas. Every control does exactly what you expect it to do, and there are some presets which add to the versatility. Both of these amps have a built-in high pass filter set at 30hz, which doesn't seem to be lacking at all. I understand that the TC has a filter set at a higher frequency. The Bass preset bypasses the high pass filter if you fancy some lower frequencies. The tone is very transparent. It might be because it's so pure in tone, but it didn't seem to be as loud as the Streamliner, although it's still loud enough for most applications. I was not overly impressed by the overdriven valve tone on either, but then I have an all-valve amp for that, so I've been spoilt in that department. Overall, each has their strengths and weaknesses, but I was very impressed by both amps.
It MAY be the case IF the wall hanger is fitted so as not to allow the bass to hang 100% perpendicular. In which case you MAY get some very small changes to neck relief from a slight uneven pressure on the truss rod which would result in the effects you noticed.
I've actually thought of this with my Hercules grabby-neck-hanging stands. The neck grabber doesn't rotate to ensure a proper vertical hang, and with both my headstocks being offset, I didn't like this. I unscrewed the grabber and then drilled and screwed into place at the correct angle. I think most wall hangers are the rotating type though.

Great thread title btw :-)

I've never known it to be a problem. I had my P on the wall for years, and now both my basses hang on their respective guitar 'stands'. Also, think about all those basses and guitars hanging on the walls of shops! I suspect that you may just be unlucky :-(

That's very helpful, thanks. They look great, but I'm irrationally loathe to have a head wider than the cab upon which it sits :-(

... Plug into this bad boy: http://io9.com/this-sound-system-is-so-powerful-no-human-could-survive-1512501017 A soundsystem so loud, it would literally kill you. Where do I plug in :-D
-
Does anyone know the exact external width of these bags? I'm assuming they are all the same in the range. I can't seem to find it online :-(
-
I guess not :-( On the plus side, I've been doing rehearsals lasting a couple of hours each, and there has been no thermal cutout, so I guess the air is getting in through the gap at the side.
Bought Mark's Emu (of all things ), straightforward easy & pleasant transaction - very speedy delivery too! Thanks! Pete
Did he ride it round to your house?
I've had raw drivers that I left in my workshop overnight at 40F measure nearly an octave above spec. If you were to play though them in that state and try to get them sounding normal you might damage them. It's like a car, you don't want to start it cold and go to cruising speed before the oil has come up to temp. Not that you know what cold is, a Scotsman might.
So this is why reggae originated in Jamaica, and not Greenland ;-) Thanks
Oh, and I think a time limit on the songs would help. I think two and a half minutes would be ideal.
The time limit is five minutes :-) Hope to hear some of your stuff in the coming months

A great picture, which I predict will lead to more varied interpretations than last month.
Whats the deal with the headstock? the strings seem to go to odd tuners... wouldn't the B string be tightened a different way to the others?
This is the "Extended B" headstock, which Fodera like to use for their 33" five strings. The theory is that it improves compliance (feeling of tightness, not to be confused with tension).

Congratulations Skol - a very worthy winner, once again!

The latest output from Hamfist workshops. I created a monster !

Loving that, what a transformation! On the subject of the wood, I wouldn't say that that was alder. My best guess would be something much more tropical; not quite rubberwood, but maybe utile? Pic of utile attached for comparison. Anyway, great job! -
This is interesting for me too, as I'll be keeping a nice cab in my workshop while I'm not using it, due to space issues at home. It has a Roq Solid cover and although the workshop is cold, it doesn't go below 0 degrees. Definitely no rodents, but I'll be sure to acclimatise it before playing.
That concern is valid. Cold speakers don't work to spec, and it takes a long time for them to warm, as the insulation inside them works like a cooler. So long as they're stored above freezing you're OK, but I wouldn't store them where it goes below freezing unless they'll have a few hours to warm up before using them.
Hi Bill, Would playing them too cold mean lack of optimum performance, or actual risk of damage?
