Unless it was made specifically for someone who then changed their mind, I can't see how it's "custom built"

Hard to tell, but is it called a Bugera Veyron?

"playing the jazz neck" - never heard it called that before
I sent a bass with City Link via Interparcel recently. I took NINE days to deliver it from London to Somerset. During that time it was 'lost' for most of that time until amazingly it was delivered.
I'll bet that was a nervous time!! Glad it came through eventually
Just a quick courier rant on the nearest relevant thread I could find: BCer pays me money for an amp on the Tuesday. I pack it up that day and get on the Interparcel website. Book City Link to pick it up on the Wednesday, guaranteed next day delivery. ONE WEEK LATER, after many frustrating phone calls to Interparcel and several more rebookings and failed pickups, they change the service to UPS. Booked in the morning, picked up in the afternoon. Terrible service from City Link, and frustratingly ineffective call centre staff at Interparcel. Well done UPS!
There are ongoing residual issues! What I omitted from the original story was that City Link, whilst spending a week NOT picking up the amp from me, actually attempted to deliver a 50kg pallet of shelving components to my amp buyer, apparently from me. Not surprisingly, he refused to accept it. What did I get "returned" to me yesterday (while I was out)? A 50kg pallet of shelving components! No invoices or anything. Oh, and it was so badly packed by the mystery sender that it's damaged. I phoned City Link to ask what's going on and they haven't a clue. Somewhere out there, someone is out of pocket, and someone is missing their shelving.
Yep, found it on the manual, it looks like this is the Parallel/Mono mode i talked about on my first post so this might work with two 4Ohm cabs but it doesn't hurt to check with Crown (Peavey) first
Yup, thanks. Here's hoping there's no nasty surprises in the response Edit - Crown have conformed that all is well with my evil plan to put 800w into each 4ohm cab with a single input. Anyone else want to throw a potential spanner in the works?
That's funny - I did exactly the opposite.

Great to hear, nothing like that valve feeling . So that's you sorted for all gigs without steps* from now on *I did a gig with steps once. Ended up copping off with Lisa and punching H in the face
I may have misundertood your question but from what i read i believe that you wont be able to run two 4Ohm cabs from your XTI in the way you're thinking about doing it! - In Stereo mode you connect one signal to each channel and get up to 800W@4Ohm or 1000W@2Ohm on each channel. Since you only have a single input feed (signal from your preamp) you'll only be able to use one input from he amp so the only way to hook up two 4Ohm cabs is to hook them (in paralel) to the same channel thus obtaining a max output of 1000W with a 2Ohm load. If you try to hook a cab to each output one of them will not work.
The way I read the manual, I thought I could use this mode: • INPUT Y (Ch. 1 input signal goes to Ch. 1 and Ch. 2 output. Ch. 2 input signal is ignored.) I've e-mailed Crown to confirm. Thanks for the heads up
what are you actually doing other than killing people if they get to close? andy
It won't be a regular rig. I have two separate rigs, one super clean, and one valve old-school, each with a different 4 ohm cab. I had the opportunity to swap a spare head for the Crown power amp, so I thought why not go for a Power Rangers setup - each rig mighty in its own right, and you can put them all together if you want to destroy a city

If antone is interested, here's the response from Glockenklang: Hi Chris, the output level of the pre amp out is 1 V, when the power amp starts clipping. If you only use the extern power amp, it is no problem, because the pre amp out is able to send up to 5 V. Best regards, Udo Klempt-Gießing Kudos to Udo, who answered my e-mails promptly and thoroughly

2x18 had some great advice. In the event that the pre output and power input voltages don't match, you can get a box (Art Clean Box Pro) which will do the matching for you. In the meantime, I've written to Glockenklang to try and get the info.

Ok will do thanks
there's an interesting article on input/output levels and pre- & power amps at ovnilab
Thanks for that, a very interesting read. Unfortunately, I can't find any info on the output of the preamp of the Glockenklang :-( The head has a 1/4" Preamp Out socket as well as a balanced DI with level control. I'm thinking it should be OK
-
I can't see see anything in the spec, will have a proper search later
-
The plan is to use the Preamp out from my Glockenklang Soul head. That should be ok, shouldn't it? All this separate pre/power stuff is new to me
-
Thanks for that, that's more or less what I thought. I was a bit confused by the sockets on the back, banana plugs etc. hopefully I would only need to use the speakon one like on a normal bass amp. I have plans to demolish Nottingham!
-
In theory, if I had a Crown xti2000 power amp, http://www.crownaudio.com/xti-series.html What are my options with two 4ohm cabs? can I run one off each channel (via the rear speakons) and send 800w to each?
-
Combos, cabs and speaker sizes - oh my!
Roland Rock replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
I thought I'd start with a list that I've made of speaker sizes - more air moved generally louder...
When looking at moving air, you're correct to look at cone area. The other part of the equation is excursion. For example, one 12 inch cone with 10mm excursion will move twice as much air as one with 5mm. Just something to bear in mind when comparing :-) -
Forgot to add, if i can find mine you can have it if you want it.
A very kind offer, thanks! Silent tuning is perfect. My pedal tuner is embedded on a board so I want the option of tuning without having to get the whole board out. I'll happily give you postage and a pint :-)
