1. A serious amp like that needs a serious cab! I'd get the Bergantino NV412 that's for sale on BC, if you consider that transportable. basschat.co.uk/topic/221252-bergantino-nv412-bass-cab-cover/page__pid__2332881#entry2332881 Also check out the Barefaced '69er, but it comes in over a grand delivered
2. Lovely! Nice to hear it sounds chocolatey! When you say crisp, would you say more salt n vinegar, or cheese and onion ;-)
3. Just a quick courier rant on the nearest relevant thread I could find: BCer pays me money for an amp on the Tuesday. I pack it up that day and get on the Interparcel website. Book City Link to pick it up on the Wednesday, guaranteed next day delivery. ONE WEEK LATER, after many frustrating phone calls to Interparcel and several more rebookings and failed pickups, they change the service to UPS. Booked in the morning, picked up in the afternoon. Terrible service from City Link, and frustratingly ineffective call centre staff at Interparcel. Well done UPS!
4. I love these, and have never seen a USA one before. Are all Decades short scale?
5. I have a 100w amp, and it has been fine for the majority of gigs I've done, even when I had a 2x10 cab. However, if you are playing with a 4x12 toting guitarist and a horn section, I'd say you'd be safer with a 200 watter
6.
I was thinking of doing this to my P a part of a very gentle relicing. I was also intrigued when Andy Till noticed the rolled edges immediatley on an US 2011 jazz bass I sold him. I hadnt known they were there, just that it was comfy to play. Any advice on sorting out the frets? (Hope youre still loving it, Andy, by the way) the OP says " it probably would be daft to attempt this on a bass with a maple fingerboard or any other where the fingerboard is lacquered" - I'm assuming that the laquer would crack. Would it still do so if the work was done gently with some wirewool ?
I'd have thought that if you used any abrasive to do this, by the time the edges were rounded over enough, you'll have removed the lacquer. This happens naturally over time anyway, just look for the dirty grey edges on an old maple-boarded bass.
7. I play very simple basslines in my reggae band, sometimes just root and five throughout. Also, there are often just two chords alternating throughout the entire song. I love it. In the past, I've played in jazz funk bands, jazz function stuff and various rock and indie stuff, but I think I'm enjoying this band more than ever. With much of this type of music, repetition is an essential part of the song, to help create a catchy, pulsing, hypnotic bounce. Any fancy fills would just mess up the feel. Consequently, it is hugely enjoyable, that feeling of being totally at one with the band. Of course, it helps that the bass gets to be huge in the mix :-D Also, it allows you to really focus on the subtle nuances of your playing. Things like note length, placement and dynamic are often overlooked when playing a busier line. Edit, I know this is different to 'plodding' rock eights, but if think some of the points are relevant.
8.
Hi Henryguy, i like the instrument, and i'd like to buy it. Could you eventualy pack it very well for shipment to Italy? Off course before i will pay you. thanks for your answer paolo
The chap hasn't been on Basschat for six months. Try sending a PM and he might get an EMail
9.
My Skyline Decade, after surgery...
That's gorgeous - I love the Decade
10.
Going to see Sleaford Mods in a few weeks, slightly scared!
Haha, I've seen them before and am going again next Saturday (If I can persuade anyone to come with me, it's a bit 'niche') I didn't feel TOO intimidated last time :-D Have a good one
11. You've done a great job there - look great
12. Radio silence from one buyer and change of mind from another means this is available again.
13. Wow, his thread has been much more mixed than I thought. I always thought that BD was universally loved, and it was The Gallery that had the grumpy service. I've not met Mark in person, but will definitely pop in when I'm down that way next. Small online purchases have always been fine.
14.
Yes there is. You give me a tenner, then you can please yourself
:-D
15. OK, I'll get this thread back on track. All the ones I've met were knobs ;-)
16.
I was making noises about having one in Northampton (http://basschat.co.u...bass-bash-2013/) but I didn't get around to doing anything about it. Re-reading my thread the consensus is build it and they will come (maybe ) PM me if you want to collaborate this year on one.
Leicester looks like a good central location. Is that too far for you?
17. Haha, you mean there isn't some overlord BC committee that authorises and oversees these things??
18. Oh, and I have a Genz bag. This has the least protection of all.
19. I've had two. The first was the Protec small mixer PA1212. It offers near flight case protection, but does bulk up the volume a bit. I think they're discontinued :-( I now use the Protec for my mini pedal board, so for the Streamliner, I bought a Gator bag: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gator-12x12x5-5-inches-Padded-Equipment/dp/B0002EJVL8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1389597151&sr=8-2&keywords=gator+mixer+bag Perfect size. Thinly padded compared to the Protec, but fine for light gigging duties.
20. I love 6x10s. The just seem to be the perfect sized cab - they look brilliant, keep the head at the right height, but can fit in a car. I've played through the Ampeg HLF and thought it was very good, if not a bit undefined on the lower frequencies. However, I'll have to mention the Barefaced '69er as well. It's got a definite old school colour, yet is tight and even throughout the range. And it can be lifted with one hand (for short distances) I've only seen one come up for sale second hand though, and it didn't hang around!
21. There hasn't been a bass bash in the East Midlands since I've been a member :-( I have, however met a number of local Basschatters at gigs, and they've been really nice.
22. Just Google Tom Petersson and you'll see a great variety of these basses
