I think it will be Bombarder that makes her want to rerecord the vox. But otherwise they sound lovely. My main problem is the bass. It's too present, it's a bit overwhelming, it should sound big without BEING big, if you know what I mean, too much subs. For me it detracts from the vocal performance. That's not a big criticism, I love what you do, you play beautifully, languid or urgent as needs arise, highly accomplished. I think you should trust your singer, she knows. But you can go too far with these things and not know when to leave sh*t alone. I hope she wants to redo the vocal for the right reasons. I love it though mate, it's excellent! Thanks for posting the songs
Thanks a lot for the feedback Nigel. I'm not sure what the singer has in mind, but I'm pretty confident in her vision and talent, so looking forward to it. Personally I'd love to hear Bombarder as a stripped back dub number with spare vocals dropping in and out, but I suppose that will be come in a future remix. Re. Bass in the mix, do you mean all three songs? To us, Bombarder was the only one which took a bit of fiddling. For previous mixes, when in the studio in front of their monitors, the bass sounded more balanced. Once played in a car/headphones/stereo etc, it just couldn't be heard well enough. We added a bit more of the DI track for mids, and upped the levels somewhat, and the result was a bass which sounds deep yet balanced on my headphones, stereo and car, and the rest agreed It was a bit overpowering on the studio monitors. The rational was that the vast majority would not be listening on studio monitors. Perhaps the quality of your headphones are such that they impart the subs too well! Perhaps we need to apply a high pass filter cutting off around 30Hz. I'll raise it and see what can be done. Thanks. I'd be really interested to hear whether others find the bass overpowering on Bombarder, preferably stating what they are using to listen to it! I feel a poll coming on ;-)
real nice stuff ,loving it, did you D.I.out ,and mik the amp to get your sound, and are you using flats or rounds?
Hi, thanks for the comments. Yes, there were two bass tracks - miked up amp and DI straight to desk. We adjusted the balance between the two in the mix: Lollipop: P bass with flats. a 50/50 mix of tracks Bottomless Shoes: Ergon with rounds. Mix approx 80/20 in favour of DI to desk Bombarder: Ergon with rounds again. Mix approx 80/20 in favour of amp track

Further to the first three-track demo we did ages ago, we've done another three songs. Recorded at Paper Stone Studios in Nottingham, it was good fun, but lots of fiddling was done with the mixes, and the singer has announced that she wants to re-record the vocals! These, therefore, are the 'not fit for public consumption' versions, but I see no harm in getting a bit of BC feedback Any 'performance errors' will have been well and truly noted already, so please don't rub it in Lollipop Bottomless Shoes Bombarder
Ahh Ok Thomann advertised it as 'Vintage' but it has the same packaging and the same part number on the label as my previous 2 'Original' p/n 0992046000 which had smaller plates that did fit. ...did yours fit your rout? I think I shall cut this one down and then resolder the pickup to the plate - what do you reckon? The 2 on the left are pickups I bought previously which are both fitted in Basses. The one on the right is this new one with the oversize plate Same part numbers, same descriptions, same barcodes, slightly different layout on the labels. Otherwise all same packaging
No, mine didn't fit the rout. I just enlarged the rout, as I had a scratchplate to cover it. This was about back in 1997, but IIRC the packaging definitely had Vintage written on it, and the wire had a lovely retro cloth covering. I don't see any harm in cutting the plate to size, but I'm not very technical - I'm sure someone more knowledgable will chip in soon.
Strange This is the 3rd Fender original Precision pickup I have bought However it seems this one has a larger shielding plate than the previous 2. It's so large it will not fit in the rout! I bought this one from Thomann - I'm wondering if it is genuine as the other 2 I bought seem to have smaller shielding plates. So what to do? Do I question Thomann? Do I remove the pickup from the shielding plate and get some tin snips and cut it down to size?
I bought a Fender p pickup and it had the large plate. It was definitely genuine, but was the Vintage model, maybe that's the difference?
There seems to be a lot of confusion on this thread, so let me try to help! You didn't have a G3. The G3 is a completely different model, the Super Compact, which only came out in Sept 2013. If you preferred the sound of your first Compact to your second Compact then you preferred the amp you were using with the first one or your memory is failing you. Some Barefaced history: Generation One models: Compact (1x15HO), Big One (15LF+6.5), Vintage (2x15HO), Big One T (15LF+6.5+tweeter) Generation Two models: Midget (1x12HO), Midget T (1x12HO+tweeter) Super Twelve (2x12HO), Super Twelve T (2x12+tweeter), Big Baby (12LF+6.5), Big Baby T (12LF+6.5+tweeter), Big Twin (2x12LF+6.5), Big Twin T (2x12LF+6.5+tweeter), Super Fifteen (2x15HO), Dubster (2x15LF) Generation 2.5: Original '69er (6x10") Generation Three models: Super Midget (12XN550+tweeter), Super Compact (1x12XN550), Super Twin (2x12XN550), Big Baby 2 (12XN550+HF driver), Big Twin 2 (2x12XN550+HF driver), updated Retro '69er (6x10), Retro 215 (2x15 - not launched yet!) There have been various versions of each model - the earliest G1 models had plastic corners and heavier ply, then metal corners and lighter dual-density ply. The G2 models all had metal corners, but the earlier ones were made by carpenters, the later ones cut by CNC and made in-house. The later G1 Compacts were also made by CNC in-house, the other G1 models had been discontinued by this point. There have been various other tweaks over time, bracing, damping, cosmetics etc. The Generation Three cabs are all new, based around a new 12" driver which we spent over two years developing, and in my opinion are quantifiably the best bass cabs ever made. They are clean sheet designs, from the ground up, building on the knowledge, expertise, experience and feedback gleaned over the last five years since Barefaced began. I believe they represent as large a leap forwards vs our previous models as our previous models were vs other bass cabs of their era. The only problem right now is we're so busy building them that we don't have enough time to tell everyone about how incredible they are!
Cheers Alex. What's different about the G3 '69er?
However I don't think you are going to get that 'bounce' from switching poweramps. That's gain stage stuff right there, as poweramps are generally designed to just make it louder
Really? How come hybrid amps sound so different to all valve amps then?

Post your pictures, Lets see what you all look like.

I've had the EAiAmp 350 and a Shuttle 9.2, albeit separated by an eight year gap. The EA is some of the best-built gear I've come across. Heavy, but very sturdy. The tone is very transparent, so as long as your technique and bass are making nice noises, you're set. They are also extremely versatile, but to be honest the control array was too much for my tiny brain, so I ended up using presets a lot of the time. The Shuttle is very similar in its transparency, very clean, and also incredibly versatile. IMO the valve overdrive sound is a bit weak, and just a token addition, it does seem to have a bigger bottom end, but that could be headroom, or the larger cab.

Sounds like this bassline, but isn't :/

I bought this, but then realised I needed the right angled type, so it's going spare. Yours for postage Now gone to a good home

Well, that's that settled then. Case closed.

They are highly thought of on BC. I've had two and they are very good. Don't expect flight case protection, more protection from rain, scuffs and light knocks. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/192014-roqsolid-covers/page__hl__roq+solid__fromsearch__1 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/144376-roqsolid-cover-for-ashdown-drophead-lb30/page__pid__1308332#entry1308332

NOW SOLD I bought this for a bargain price on BC recently, but it turns out that compressors are only of limited* use to me, and I've decided I'd rather not have one using up precious space on my pedal board. *unintended pun :-D Well used, but fully functional. It has a few scratches and bits of paint wear. The underside has had some messy double-sided tape on it, but I've cleaned the majority of this off. I'll pass the bargain price on to another BCer P&P additional No trades, as I can't think of anything else I need.

Señor Coconut's version of Sade's 'Smooth Operator' Some may see this as novelty song, but if think it's a top quality interpretation: http://youtu.be/zke6WpWzwd4

I bought a pedal from Lee with no issues at all. Great chap :-)
Anyway this is splitting hairs. I don't think it's very good but my point is do we understand good and bad in Chinese music and Iranian Music? So why should be understand what's good in Hip Hop? In the "projects" they might think this is great
I find this viewpoint really, really bizarre. Hip hop is not some niche genre only marketed towards 'black America'. It may have started out as such in the 70s, but by the mid-late 90's, it was the largest-selling genre, certainly in the States, and possibly the world. Its influence has continued to pervade most popular music since. But this song is sh*t.
I've got the Orange Terror Bass 500 and am really pleased with it. Loads of volume and rarely get the volume past 2 or 3 without complaints from other band members or the sound guy, when partnered with two SP212 cabs. It's quite an old school tone which I like but isn't for everyone. The only criticism I have is over the DI. It's VERY hot and unbuffered, so increasing the gain increases the DI level. Not an issue if you mic the cab, or run a DI pre-amp but something to be aware of and not ideal if you use the amp for overdrive and run through the desk.
This should sort you out http://www.studiospares.com/mic-accessories/pro-40db-inline-attenuator/invt/568600
