Welcome to basschat. Generally speaking, active basses have higher output than passive basses, but that's more of a rule of thumb, rather than a cast iron rule. An active input simply 'pads' the signal to compensate for the higher output of the active bass. If you prefer the sound of the bass through the passive input, go for it. The LH500 has a valve preamp, and it's probable that you are just overdriving the preamp valve and reaping the sonic rewards.

Lowdown, who doesn't love being spanked by 12" of quality camp funky disco? Marvellous stuff. JamesFlashG, I liked this a lot, especially the Squarepusher flavoured bass playing, and especially especially the stripped-down outro. In the end, Lowdown clinched it for me

Re. cheques- I'm far too trusting, last time we played in London, the organiser said that she was stuck that night and would post a cheque with the balance, and I agreed. Either I'm a good judge of character or just lucky, but she came through as promised. I'm impressed with your initiative going round and finding an alternative venue. You took a potentially dire situation and turned it right round to a successful gig - well done. I know it left a bad taste in your mouths, but you got paid, everyone had a good time, and you've learned that next time, you need to specify a minimum stage area in the contract!

My only memory of them is that they felt exactly like roundwounds!

I think this is lovely. The Fenderish headstock gives it a more old school look, and I especially love the control plate and scratch plate. It's a shame that the neck heel no longer has that gorgeous W&T flowing curve though. It sounds great in the vid, and you just know, being a W&T that it will play like a dream

To my ears, they have a nice emphasis in the lower mids (compared to the Foderas they replaced), The 'played in' tone is full, round and clear, which is why I've kept them on for so long.
