Yeah, she was great there. That's a really good set they have. Love Swastika Eyes and Come Together especially.

I like that EJ! It's the first I've seen with a neck through/painted combo, and looks great. W&T have recently announced the 'peak of evolution' for the EJ http://www.wtbasses.net/id-180-level-118-ej.html I really like this, especially the shape of the control plate. It's a shame it has lost the lovely sweeping curve at the neck heel though.
Eh?
Nice collection. My point was that BC Rich are a very distinctive brand with a very strong identity and associations, so are more likely to successfully feature in a "brands that don't seem to mix" pairing. The Spector/Streamer thing was a separate suggestion.

Rickenbacker spray-over with flaky paint-job?
If this is the same bass mentioned in the Talkbass thread, this and presumably others from the same batch, were sold at a reduced price with no guarantee, because of this defect. So, no story here, this time.
Extinguish your torches and lay down your pitchforks, folks. There will be no lynching tonight. -
I'm up in Manchester this evening, so no show from me, but have a great one :-)

Of the major or more well known brands, this will be tricky. BC Rich may be a good starting point. Actually, does anyone have a Streamer AND a Spector? With all the accusations of one copying the other, the 'rivalry' could mean that people are in one camp or the other.
-
It will be tricky for anyone to say for certain without looking at the amp. Take it to your local repair guy. They should pretty quickly be able to tell you if it's a quick fix or you need a new speaker. In my experience, they won't charge for this initial diagnosis. Sounds unlikely you'll need a whole new combo. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/198-recommended-amp-techs/

Same as above, very clever and skilful, but more party piece than entire gig material. Sounds just like the song to me, chords, rhythm, melody everything. What I like most is the effect he's using (envelope filter?) - it makes the pops sound full and plumby rather than harsh and tinny.
can't forget DOA
Yup, more Canadian greatness :-)

What about Canadian punk bands ;-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oElH1zBvws Also, some Detroit greatness, such as Kick out the Jams by MC5 and Loose by Stoogies

Squier classic vibe modification ideas?
The tuners on mine are just fine. In fact, everything is just fine. What's the point of getting a good bass at a great price to wind up spending hundreds of dollars more?
All very true, but for some, GAS and modding are enjoyable and expensive pastimes devoid of logic :-) -
Hercules Stands ( Strings and Things) Customer Service

I use these and they fold up nicely and are the bomb-proof quality already described.
That looks good, how small are they when folded? I started a thread last year on this issue, but despite various advice, still couldn't find what I was after http://basschat.co.uk/topic/184873-compact-stand-for-offset-bodied-bass/page__p__1865475__hl__hercules%20offset__fromsearch__1#entry1865475 -
I work with a lot of sharp spinny blades, and sometimes think what would happen if I lost several digits, as I've seen happen to others. Emotionally, I'm a very logical thinker. If it's in the past, or can't be changed, move on and do the best you can. Plucking hand, I could cope with a finger and thumb. Fretting hand, it would be an interesting exercise and learning curve. At the moment, a lot of the time, the scales and arpeggios just 'happen' without much thought. Relearning with a single finger would force me to think about the intervals, possibly in a very beneficial way which would lead to a greater theoretical understanding. I knew a guitarist who often tried to fret with just an index finger, as he found it challenging and engaged the grey matter a bit more.

you cant beat fender, They got it right.....
That bass is disgusting though. Probably what would happen if a blind man tried to describe a Sabre bass to someone who'd never seen one before.
Each to their own. I think that Gibson is lovely, much nicer than a Sabre. Anyway, looks like this thread better stick to discussing Fenders! -
I was thinking just the head. Valvey watts are worth the extra dough!

What a lovely venue! Have a great gig :-)
I'll bite (owning several set neck instruments) - why do you think the joint moves in any way after the clamping pressure is released? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose? If it moved after the clamps are released then I would guess it would pull apart like a Curly Wurly when string tension is applied.
That's not the way I read that bit. There's no doubt that a well made set neck will not move. It's more that with a bolt on, the joint is constantly under pressure from the screws (should they not be called "screw on"?). With a set neck, the glue holds firm, but the joint itself is under no pressure. The OP wonders whether this could create differences in sustain. Correct me if I'm wrong 4Strings. Edit: took too long!

Glad you like it. Now you see it in the flesh, do you feel it looks imposing enough on stage?
£0.125/W, going up to £0.175/ W taking into account the £20 that the repair cost me.
Wow, those are some cheap ass watts! I'm sure at one point in my life I could have created a formula and calculated what you paid for what amp, but not any more :-(
10p/Matamp watt, get money's worth per lb too.
I once went into a discount bookshop and they were selling books by the weight! Scales at the front of the shop and then they calculated the price, like pick n mix! Crazy

'Superfly' by Curtis Mayfield is simple, yet still takes a bit of practice to really lock in with the groove.

I'm by no stretch a jazzer, but I'm thinking that modes are going to be pretty important here. Dorian, Phrygian and Aeolean are good for playing over Dm7, as they are the minor diatonic scales. I'd be sticking to chord tones for the majority of the time unless you're doing the odd passing tone or chromatic run.

When buying your bog roll in Tesco, the price tags show price per sheet, so that you can make an informed purchasing decision. What about £ per watt when buying an amp? For no other reason other than being another silly basschat thread, has anyone achieved any notable ratios when buying an amp? I'm hoping someone will have bagged a 10p-per-watt bargain, and someone else will have paid £100 per watt for some boutique beauty. My two amp heads were pretty different: £6.50 pw for the Red Iron amp, and £0.57 pw for the Streamliner

Wow, I'd love to meet him; I love the basslines for Free, and his solo albums have some really lovely, soulful moments too*. I'd read years ago that he had totally given up playing bass - glad that's not (or no longer) true. *'Train of Love' is a personal favourite

I don't know about the general issue you've asked about, but I know the venue, asbI've played there several times. It's one of those lovely pubs where they have a passion for putting on live music, and it shows in the setup of the pub as well as the lively clientele. It will be a huge shame if they get squeezed out of business. Well done, and enjoy the gig!
